chapter 9
Crystal froze, being to terrified to move. The masked cat slowly walked near his bush his ears shifting trying to hear another sound. It lifted its nose to taste the air. He slowly lowered his face back down and shot his gaze to Crystal, who was at the moment unseen.
"I can smell you," the cat whispered, "come out, I won't hurt you... too much..." he mumbled the last part under his breath, almost like he didn't want Crystal to know he would be harmed. Crystal maintained his immobile stance, he knew he would be found eventually, but he wanted to buy some time to at least try to find a good escape rout. The guard mumbled something under his breath that crystal could not make out. The guard pricked his ears and pushed his face closer to the bush, squinting as if trying to make out a figure. The masked cat stood up, and walked back to his post, standing in his immobile position once more. Crystal waited, then slowly backed out of the bush, trying not to make a sound. The guard shifted his gaze once more to the bush, this time, crystal didn't realized it was focusing its attention on him again, so he continued to slowly step out of the bush. The guard smirked under his mask, and as quickly as he could pounced into the air and landed himself right next to Crystal.
"Hello there," the cat said menacingly, "by order of our leader you have broken our rules and must be punished," he finished. Crystal stared at the cat, still in his crouched position. What rule was he "breaking" and who was "our ruler," he was about to find out, but he didn't want to, he stood up straight and looked at the cat.
"How about, no," he said before breaking into a sprint, he didn't look back, but if he did he would have seen the cat gaining on him. Not near the camp, he thought before shifting his rout, almost effortlessly turning left and right in a sharp and jagged manner. This was probably the bravest thing he had ever done, and he wasn't going to give up, not for anything. He thought of his friends, and what dangers they faced, where they were now, how they would get them back home. The cat screamed behind him, ear splitting screams. Yet still, Crystal was not going to stop, not until his friends were back home.
