Faron-class Technical Readout (Type C Secured)

Edit - please note that you don't have to read this to understand the story! I've just always enjoyed reading excessive amounts of lore on science fiction universes, like something you'd find in a Star Wars technical manual or a 40k wiki page. I tried to emulate that. But if this isn't your jam, then don't worry! This is just extra. I guarantee you'll never need to know the Faron-class is 141,291 tons or what an RMSIIc/4s-o is.

That being said, if you also spend way too long reading stuff like this, then enjoy!

Introduction and Overview:

The Faron-class heavy cruiser is an attempt to manufacture a warship that is both competitive on the modern battlefield and constructed out of materials that are still readily available in Paragon. This second restriction has ruled out most metals, including titanium and steel, and has forced the Faron's hull to be assembled out of a combination of hardened synthetic polymers and specially-treated heat-resistant wood.

The Faron-class has sacrificed any semblance of heavy armor, abandoning the thick vectored plating of its predecessors and relying on speed and maneuverability to compete with older vessels. Despite this, the Faron is not totally lacking in survivability, presenting a strong network of plasma field generators and an extensive point-defense grid. This brief technical readout will explain everything of necessary importance, excluding anything under Type A or B classification by the Naval Bureau of Investigation and the Branch of Naval Development.

Propulsion:

Four Reiner Heavy Industries FE14/b Fusion Exhaust Engines comprise the core of the Faron's engine block. Six Reiner Heavy Industries FA11 VASIMR Thrusters act as secondary propulsion- four more positioned strategically across the Faron's hull provide substantial maneuverability. The Faron's core thruster block is replicated on the nose of the vessel, granting the class a vastly superior deceleration rate when compared to any other vessel currently in service. In addition, a centrifugal ring position amidships plays host to thirty Soarson Manufacturing B-Series monopropellant maneuvering jets, allowing for fine control and precise burns.

Offensive Armaments:

A Tonafold Ballistics Arctic-type 34-meter axial railgun and two secondary Omega-type 12-meter medium railguns form the core of the Faron's weapons loadout, supported by four twin-linked Eeinbia Incorporated 680-millimeter artillery cannons. In addition, the Faron is equipped with six bow-mounted and four aft-mounted Tonafold Ballistics HLS-2 semi-automatic torpedo tubes and an extensive smart magazine with a capacity of 250 conventional, plasma, and nuclear torpedos, among others. Combined, the Faron can easily endanger asteroid-based installations and comprehensive orbital defense satellites, as well as posing a substantial threat to much larger ships.

Torpedoes utilized include, but are not necessarily limited to-

RTSIDc/4s-s Harrier

ITSIDc/7s-p

RTSIDp/2s-s Falcon

(RTSISe/3s-s)

RTSI-Di/4s-s

RTSI-Dg/4s-sp

RTSIDn/11sp-sp Starburst

Note: Through live-fire trials at the Marston Naval Testing Station, it has been determined that the Arctic-type suffers from accelerated rail deterioration due to the use of a modified, less resource-intensive alloy. Due to this, the Arctic has been modified with experimental removable rails. It should be possible to replace the rails outside of shipyard facilities through the use of tugs and spare rails, located in the Faron's lower cargo hold. It has been recommended that the rails be professionally replaced every six months, although this time frame should be flexible in the event of combat. Additionally, every Republic naval yard should be equipped to inspect and swiftly replace rails in the event of heavy wear, regardless of how much time has passed.

Active Defenses:

While the Faron is noticeably lacking armor, it is not completely defenseless. Four Soarson D/14 magnetic field generators work in tandem with nine Reiner Defensive Technologies BEU-APP plasma dynamos to produce a relatively powerful, albeit static, plasma shield. This shield is powerful enough to suitably resist the opening volley of any similarly-sized warship, granting the Faron valuable time to acquire a target lock and return fire. In addition, twenty Tonafold Ballistics 44-millimeter nine-barreled rotary cannons, six Tonafold Ballistics 150-millimeter autocannons, and eight Tonafold Ballistics 278-millimeter twin-linked flak cannons provide a substantial point-defense grid. In conjunction with an Iasaka Interstellar Mark 11 Fire Control Computer and twenty RMSIIc/4s-o interceptor missile arrays, the Faron has an effective defense perimeter of 91,000 kilometers, with the secondary perimeter resting at around 38,600 kilometers.

The Faron comes equipped with an extensive arsenal of countermeasures, including multiple flare deployment systems (deployable flares include the AHF Type 9, AHF Type 11, ADF Type 16 and ADF Type 24), several extensive sensor jamming suites and an MM-SALP communication sponge. In addition, ten AD22 Area Denial Warheads can be deployed from the port or starboard hull, each creating a short-lived electromagnetic disruptor field capable of shutting down the electronics on most space-faring vessels.

Unconventionally, the Faron also has an ████ ████████ ████ █████ ████████ ███ ██████ ██ ████ ███ ███████ ██████████ ██ ███ ████ ██ █ ███████ ██████████ █████████ ████████ ████████████ ███ ███████ ████ ██ ███████ ██████████ ████████ ███ ████ ██ <This information has been redacted upon the request of the Republic Bureau of Naval Intelligence> render the Faron invisible from thermal scopes for as long as the crew is able to handle the extreme heat.

Armor:

Onite, an alloy made mostly out of titanium and cobalt, was the standard material for Republic armor up through the Centurion-class battlecruiser. Without a stable influx of either, however, the Faron has turned to Nythias 1x5(a), a synthetic manufactured from the Nyth gas which matches steel in terms of strength but is much lighter. Four meters of 1x5(a) protects the bridge and gunnery deck, with an additional two meters completely encasing the reactor housing. This provides the Faron-class with some superficial protection, capable of suitably resisting light to medium cannons and even some light railguns, but doing little to defend against torpedo impacts or any larger weapons.

Complement:

Lacking a hangar and any Vertical Acceleration Tubes, the Faron sacrifices the tactical versatility present on the Centurion-class. A modification package does exist to give the Faron a limited carrying capacity of twelve strike craft which will likely be reserved for a single squadron of SF-41 Starhawk Fighter-Bombers or P119 Helldiver Torpedo Bombers. This package is likely to rarely ever be implemented, however, as Republic High Command plans to employ Faron-class vessels as █████ ███████ ███ ████████-█████ █████ ████████, ███████████ ████████ ███ █████'█ █████████████ <This information has been redacted upon the request of the Republic Bureau of Naval Intelligence>

Auxiliary Equipment:

The Faron has two full sensor suites, consisting of thermal and conventional scopes, MM-SCMA/10-1r radiology sensors, a Titan Manufactorium MM-SCMA/12-12a RADAR and LIDAR package, and a Titan Manufactorium MM-SU(d)LA/19-9-SDA Spacetime Distortion Assembly. Each suite comes equipped with a hardwired supercomputer and multilaser range-finder, capable of tracking the trajectories of millions of potential targets. In addition, a single MM-SU(a)SA/BM2 SONA Intersystem Detection Array is affixed to the Faron's dorsal hull and is capable of retracting beneath the hull during combat operations.

Supplemental Notes:

Notice- Large portions of information have been redacted on the orders of the Republic Bureau of Naval Intelligence.

During the development of the Faron-class heavy cruiser, it was discovered that pure Nyth gas ███ ███████ █████████ ████████ ██████ ███████ ██ ████ ███████ ██████████. While this ████████ does not appear present in Nythias 1x5(a), the material, ████ ██████████, █████ ██ ██████ ████ ███████ ██ ███████ ██████████. A multitude of studies have been conducted by the Branch of Naval Development, the Republic ███████ ██████ ███████ ███ ███ ███████ ██ ███ ██████████ ███ ██ █████ concluded that crew members stationed on Faron-class vessels who routinely see heavy combat ████ ██████ ██████ █████ ██ █████████ ████████ ███ █████ ███████████ █████████████████ ███████████ ██ ████ ██ █ ██████ ████ ██ ████ ████████ ███████████████ ████████ ███ ███████████ ████ █████ ███ ██ █ ██████ ██ ██████ ███████ ███████.

The Faron, following several setbacks involving critical reactor functions and control, has now totaled over 16,000,000,000,000 (sixteen trillion) credits in development costs alone. This officially makes the Faron the most expensive non-NMI starship ever commissioned. Thirty have been ordered for sequential construction at five primary assemblage plants- the Oscomn National Fleetyard, Allos City Shipyards, Havin Starworks, and a pair of Reiner Heavy Industry's Construction Ringworlds (Ish'itor and Mar'vail).

Hi!

This is different!

I don't know if this happens to anyone else, but whenever I write I always generate a ton of extra lore that would be difficult to fit in in a normal chapter. So I decided to vomit it all out here! This is specifically the Faron-class heavy cruiser, but I might write more of these on Alexandra and Aurora Flare and Lexian and all of those.

Don't worry! An actual chapter is also in the works, and will hopefully be out by the end of next week.

Cool!

Cya!
