Chapter 2: Digimon, Digimon Everywhere
Narrator: Takato and Y/n were just some ordinary kids who loved Digimon, and who can blame them? Things were pretty normal so they found that funky blue card. It turned their card readers into real Digivices that scaned in all this cool info about Guilmon, a Digimon Takato had made up. And had a compass that pointed to Impmon, Y/n's favorite Digimon. I bet they never dreamed Takato would get a real Digi-egg when he did those drawings and have a real Impmon come to them to be Y/n's partner. Then they saw Rika and Renamon fighting Lynxmon. The next morning, Takato's Digi-egg hatched and there was no sign of Guilmon, but his Digivice led Takato, Y/n and Impmon right to him. Looks like Takato's got a lot to learn about being a Digimon Tamer, like how not to get toasted by his own creation.
Guilmon looked at the trio and growled.
Takato: Oh, no. I've created a digimon and now he's going to blast us to smithereens.
Impmon: Stay behind me, Y/n, I'll protect you.
Guilmon sniffed Takato's head and cuddled his hair a little.
Y/n: Uh, Takato.
Takato: Uhh, and the last thing will hear is that horrible growl.
Y/n: Takato, Guilmon doesn't really seem to be that violent or aggressive.
Takato: You're not going to attack us?
Guilmon: How?
Takato: This is the coolest. Ha ha ha. I really created you, and you're mine. I can't believe it- my own real live Digimon. Hi, Guilmon.
Guilmon cuddled closer to Takato's face.
Y/n: Yeah. Now, the challenging part. How are we going to get him past your parents?
Later.
They arrived at Takato's house with Guilmon under a box.
Takato: Mom, Dad, we're home. (Whispering: Okay, you've got to be really quiet.)
Mr. Matsuki: Hey, kiddos. You're home late, huh?
Mrs. Matsuki: Dinner's almost ready.
Takato: Uh, great.
They pulled in Guilmon further, but Mr. Matsuki saw the box.
Mr. Matsuki: What's that?
Takato: Uh, what's what?
Mr. Matsuki: That box you've got.
Y/n: We found it on the street. It was empty and it didn't look like anyone was using it, so we thought we'd bring it here to put some extra stuff in.
Mrs. Matsuki: Don't be dragging anymore trash up there, Takato. You know I'll just end up throwing it out again later.
Takato: Okay. (Whispering: You have to stay under the box.)
Mr. Matsuki: You boys need a hand there?
Y/n: No. We're fine, Mr. Matsuki. Thanks anyway.
They were finally able to get Guilmon in Takato's room where Guilmon ditched the box and Y/n unzipped his backpack.
Y/n: All right, Impmon. It should be good.
Impmon got out of Y/n's backpack.
Y/n: Sorry you have to get in there every time we leave.
Impmon: It's fine. I understand it's necessary.
Guilmon knocked all of Takato's stuff off his desk.
Takato: Hey, don't do that, Guilmon.
Guilmon: Guilmon?
Impmon: You don't even know your own name?
Takato: Listen, Guilmon, you've got to stay out of trouble. You can't keep blasting things and knocking stuff over. I mean, Mom yells at me when I bring a box home, but a digital dinosaur? I don't think she'd ever be able to stop yelling.
Y/n: Your mom sure is something else, Takato. She'd definitely flip if she saw a small dinosaur and little devil creature. No offense, Impmon.
Impmon: None taken.
Takato: Do you understand, boy.
Guilmon: I Guilmon?
Takato: Right. I'm Takato.
Y/n: My name's Y/n, Takato's best friend. This is my partner, Impmon.
Impmon: Nice to meet you, Guilmon.
Guilmon: Ta-ka-to-mon?
Guilmon looks at Y/n and Impmon.
Guilmon: Y-n-mon and Imp-mon?
Impmon: You hit right on the nose with me, but with them, not so much.
Takato: We're not Digimon. We're Takato and Y/n.
Guilmon: Takatomon and Y/nmon.
Y/n: Eh, close enough.
Takato: (groan) No, we're human beings. How can I explain this? Let's see now. That's it. I've got just the thing.
Takato looked under his bed.
Takato: Good thing I hid this from Mom. Everything I think is cool she thinks is trash.
Y/n: What is it? A manga of some kind?
Takato: No.
Takato was now wearing a pair of yellow goggles over his head.
Takato: See, Guilmon? A Digimon Tamer.
Guilmon: Oh. Goggles.
Y/n: They actually look pretty cool on you.
Takato: Y/n, don't think I forgot about you, my friend.
Takato handed Y/n another pair of goggles.
Y/n: Takato, you should have. I love them.
Y/n grabbed his goggles and put them on.
Y/n: How do I look?
Takato: Sick.
Impmon: (snaps his finger) Looking sharp.
Y/n: Thanks.
Y/n lowered his goggles to ware them around his neck.
Later.
Takato fell asleep on the floor with Guilmon while Y/n and Impmon got the bed. Meanwhile, a light blue light appeared in the city out of nowhere in front of a couple with some mist following after the light.
Woman: What's that?
Man: Hmm? Um, the Northern Lights?
Rika ran over towards the mist.
Rika: (Thinking: Another one's coming through. Get in gear, Renamon. Or will miss all the fun.
She put on a pair of glasses and she saw a small, green Digimon with a club.
Rika: There it is.
Renamon came into the mist.
Rika: Renamon.
Renamon: I'm on it.
Rika got out her Digivice and it showed a digital image of the Digimon.
Rika: Goblimon. Let's see. He cheats. He's got a Fireball Goblin Strike. Oh, it's just a Rookie. Where's the sport in that? Walk all over him, Renamon.
Renamon: He's toast.
Renamon jumped in the air and kicked Goblimon in the chest. It tried to strike back, but Renamon dodged it and hit it with an uppercut.
Renamon: You missed.
Meanwhile.
The couple were making out and that small Digimon walked over to them.
Small Digimon: Is that your special attack?
The broke of to look at him.
Man: Who are you, little dude?
Woman: Oh, what a cute little toy. Did you get that for me, honey?
Small Digimon: Hey, you know what? You're going to have to open your mouth much, much wider if you really want to swallow each other.
Man: Uh, what did you say?
Woman: An alien! It wants to swallow our brains!
Man: Don't do it, man. I need what little brain I have.
They ran of, making the little Digimon sad, which caused his big ears to shrink. Then the red upside down triangle on his head began to glow.
Small Digimon: Hey, maybe I can help them.
Back to the fight.
Goblimon tried to hit Renamon again, but Renamon dodged and kicked his jaw.
Renamon: Missed again.
Goblimon tried to ram Renamon, but she jumped, making it hit the fence.
Renamon: Oh, so close.
Goblimon tried to hit Renamon with its club, but she jumped back.
Renamon: He's not losing strength, Rika.
Rika: Yeah, this is boring.
Rika got out some Digimon cards.
Rika: Let's see. Which one? The Boost card.
Rika scaned the card with her Digivice.
Rika: Digimodify! Hyperchip activate!
As Renamon began to power up, red energy surrounded Goblimon and it changed into a big, red ogre.
Rika: He Digivolved, but how? He shouldn't be able to.
Impmon and Guilmon suddenly woke up, waking their Tamers up, too.
Takato: Hey, uh, What's wrong, boy? Guilmon?
Guilmon was growling while staring at the window, Takato looked to see nothing.
Takato: There's nothing there.
Y/n: Takato, cover for me. I feel this is something I have to check out. Come on, Impmon.
Impmon jumped on Y/n's shoulders as he ran off.
Takato: Y/n, wait.
Back with the fight.
The bigger Digimon tried to smash Renamon with its bigger club, but Renamon was luckily able to dodge.
Rika: Renamon, I'm going to be very vexed if you lose.
Renamon: Don't worry, Rika. Just watch.
Renamon began to bumble on the Digimon's face harshly and sent it into a pile of rubble.
Renamon: That all you got, big boy?
The Digimon went for one last charge at Renamon who jumped in the air.
Renamon: Diamond Storm!
Renamon summoned hundreds of diamonds that pierced through the Digimon's body, making its body explode.
Rika: That's more like it, Renamon. Not even a Champion-level Digimon can stand in our way anymore. Now download Fyukomon's data.
Renamon absorbed the data left from Fyukomon.
Rika: Next time, you'll win... without my help.
Y/n was running to where Impmon was telling him too until he stopped.
Y/n: What's wrong?
Impmon: I can't sense the disturbance anymore.
Y/n: (sigh) Let's just go back to bed.
They walked back to Takato's house.
In the morning.
Takato and Y/n were walking into the bakery to get a bunch of bread.
Mrs. Matsuki: Takato. Do you remember that time you found a cat and brought it home?
Takato: I didn't just find it, Mom. That old lady gave it to me, remember?
Y/n: She really was a nice lady, but had a serious problem with cats.
Mrs. Matsuki: I know. I just want to remind you we can't have any pets. Are you listening? Takato.
Y/n: We don't have any animals up there, Mrs. Matsuki. I know what it's like to not have pets. My dad's allergic to them, so I understand full well being in a place with no pets. We'll be off now.
They both walked out the door and to the side of Takato's house.
Takato: Guilmon, come down here.
Y/n: Impmon, jump. I'll catch you.
Guilmon with the box on him jumped out and landed on Takato while Impmon fell into Y/n's arms.
Y/n: Takato, you okay?
Takato: Ow! Down here, not on me.
Guilmon: Oh, sorry.
Takato: Man, you're heavy.
Impmon: Well, you kinda asked for it when you made a Digimon this big just for a Rookie.
Guilmon: Yeah.
They went into an alleyway.
Takato: Let's just lean that there and that there- Guilmon, don't eat that.
Guilmon: Okay.
Y/n: Impmon, help me with this. There we go.
Takato: Well, it's not pretty, but it should do.
They built a bunch of cardboard in front of Guilmon.
Takato: Now, Guilmon, since you can't stay at home, you're going to have to stay here while we go to school, okay?
Guilmon: Go school?
Takato: I know. I wish they had a class on Digimon. We'd have the best show-and-tell ever. Now, I can't take you to school, but when I get home, the two of us can play all afternoon, okay? So stay in that box.
Guilmon: Play now.
Takato: Aw, I wish I could. If you get hungry, eat this.
Takato threw a bunch of bread down.
Impmon: Will I have to stay here too or?
Y/n: Oh, no. You're coming with me. I think it's best if I knew where you were until you get more use to this place.
Impmon: Okay.
Y/n slipped Impmon into his backpack.
Y/n: Here, incase you get hungry.
He gave Impmon two pieces of bread and zipped his bag up, only leaving it open enough so Impmon could breathe.
Takato: All right. Now stay here and be quiet, and I'll see you soon, okay?
They went on their way.
Takato: Bye, Guilmon.
Y/n: Yeah, I honestly don't think that's gonna be enough for him. We might need to teach him to preserve food after school.
At the Dinosaur play set.
Kazu and the glasses boy were playing Digimon.
Glasses boy: Um, Greymon Digivolves to Metalgreymon.
Kazu: That's the best you can do? I'm going to Warp-Digivolve into Weregarurumon.
Glasses boy: Uh, Speed active-
Kazu: Too bad. I've got a System Crash card. You lose.
Glasses boy: Oh.
Kazu: (laugh) If you want to play again, I'd be happy to beat you.
Takato: Hi, guys.
Y/n: Yo.
Kazu: Hey, where were you two?
Glasses boy: Yeah, you're both late.
Takato: Sorry. You wouldn't believe what we've been through today.
Kazu: One of your rare take-a-shower days?
Y/n: Like you're one to talk, Kazu.
Kazu: What's with the glasses?
Y/n: They're goggles, you idiot.
Takato: Ha ha. Cool, huh? We're going to be Digimon Tamers.
Kazu: Digimon Tamers? Let's go. We've got to Digitame gym class.
Glasses boy: (sigh) Who wants to sweat this early in the day?
Y/n: Come on, there's nothing like some morning exercise to get the blood pumping. You guy go on ahead, we'll make sure everything's cleaned up.
Glasses boy: Yeah. Okay.
They both left Takato and Y/n with the cards.
Takato: I wonder if anyone can create a Digimon, or maybe we're some kind of Digidestineds. That's why we got those blue cards.
Y/n: That could be possible, but we're just two. So where could the others be? Do you think that girl in our dream could be a Digidestined?
Takato: Maybe.
Takato searched his card tin, but still couldn't find the blue card.
Takato: It's still missing. Where could it have gone?
Y/n: Maybe it was just a one use thing.
Kazu: Takato! Y/n! Come on. Sometime before we turn 50 would be nice.
Takato: Okay, okay. We're coming.
Impmon: (Whispering: Are they always in this much of a rush?)
Y/n: (Whispering: Only when it involves School.)
They all hurried off to school.
At school.
They were all outside and in gym clothes.
Gym teacher: Next. Let's go.
Takato went for the long jump.
Takato: Uhh! So how'd I do, huh?
A girl was doing the measurements.
Girl: Just over three meters.
Takato: All right! I rule the world!
Kazu: Don't get too excited there, chumley. Me and Y/n still beat you.
Takato: Yeah, but it's easy to win when you cheat, Kazu.
Everyone laughed, but Takato Y/n thought they saw Guilmon's box.
Takato: (Thinking: Please tell me I didn't just see that.)
Y/n: (Thinking: This isn't good.)
A few minutes later, everyone heard the fire alarm go off.
Kazu: Looks like your socks set off the fire alarm again, Kanta.
Kanta: Very funny.
Takato: I thought so.
Y/n: Please tell me this wasn't just some dumb joker.
Gym teacher: Uh, you kids stay here. I'll see what's going on.
Y/n: (Whispering: Takato, I think you and I know what this is.)
Takato began to sweat.
Girl: Hey, Takato, are you okay?
Takato: Yeah, but I got to go.
Y/n: Me too. I left something in my bag.
They both ran into the school to see the principal talking to a bunch of teachers.
Principal: Listen. I'm telling you, I saw this thing. We've got to call out the National Guard, the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Marines.
There were also a bunch of kids in the hall.
Y/n: Hey, what's going on?
Kid: The principal says he saw a monster.
Takato: A monster? (Thinking: Please don't be Guilmon.)
They went to where the principal was and saw Guilmon's box.
Takato: (Thinking: Guilmon, what have you done?) (Whispering: We've gotta find him, Y/n.)
Y/n: (Whispering: We'll need Impmon's help.)
They quickly ran to get Impmon, explained the situation to him, and ran out to find Guilmon.
Takato: Guilmon! Where are you?
Y/n: Guilmon!
Impmon: This my fault. I should've stayed back and made sure he stayed.
Y/n: You're not to blame, Impmon. You couldn't have known this would happen
Takato: What if I never find him again?
???: Where's all the food?
They quickly ran to the cafeteria to see the lunch ladies in front of empty food carts.
Lunch lady: You know how long it took to make the meatloaf dry and crusty?
Lunch lady 2: And my watery spaghetti sauce all gone.
Lunch lady 3: The chocolate cake- Think of the chocolate cake.
Lunch lady 4: Oh, they use that to re-shingle the roof.
Takato: It's Guilmon, all right. No one else would eat that stuff.
Y/n: Honestly, he'll be crawling to us with a tummy ache soon.
Impmon: I'm guessing that stuff is terrible to eat?
Y/n: That's why me and Takato bring bagged lunches.
Takato: Guilmon, why did you have to run away?
Y/n places a hand on Takato's shoulder.
Y/n: We'll find him.
???: Guilmon?
They turned and saw a boy around their age.
Boy: Uh, you said Guilmon. Well, didn't you?
Takato: I...
Boy: He's a Digimon, right? Just like that Impmon on your friends shoulders.
Impmon: He knows I'm real?
Takato: How did you know that?
???: Are they Digimon Tamers, too?
A small white bunny Digimon with green lines on its body and a horn on its forehead walked next to the boy's legs.
Takato: Uhh! It's Terriermon... and he talked! I don't believe it. How?
Y/n: He must be another chosen one like us. I knew it. There's always more than a few in this kind of scenario.
Terriermon: You must not be a very good Digimon Tamer if you can't even keep track of just one Digimon.
Boy: Terriermon!
Terriermon: What? What? It's not my fault if he stinks at it and won't follow his friends example, right?
Takato: He's right.
Takato ran off.
Y/n: Takato!
Impmon: Look, Terriermon, cut him some slack. It's his first time.
Y/n and Impmon ran after Takato who was crying his eyes out.
Takato: (Thinking: Terriermon's right. I can't even keep Guilmon out of trouble, and now... he's gone. I could never be like Y/n, he easily knows where Impmon is at all times. I'll never have a friendship like theirs or like Terriermon and his Tamer. I don't even have a Digimon anymore. Maybe I'm not even the kid who was supposed to find Guilmon at all.)
Y/n: Takato!
Takato: Y/n, when you said I was a chosen one, I think you were wrong. My Digivice should have gone to someone more competent than me.
Y/n: Takato, don't say that. You are Guilmon's Tamer. You made him, he wouldn't even be in existence without you. You may not understand it, but Guilmon needs you just as much as you need him. Same with me and Impmon.
Impmon: Yeah. And I read that is something ever happens, it's for a reason, not an accident. I may have wanted to interact with humans, when I ended up with Y/n over here, I knew that was the reason that I picked your window in particular.
Y/n: So, don't give up.
Takato: Wait. I think I know where Guilmon is.
They both ran to the roof and saw Guilmon looking at the sky.
Y/n: See? No one deserve to be Guilmon's Tamer more than you.
Takato: Guilmon? Guilmon!
Guilmon saw Takato andcthey ran at each other.
Guilmon: Takatomon, hey!
Guilmon jumped onto Takato.
Takato: Okay, boy, okay. Guilmon.
Takato hugged Guilmon.
Guilmon: Oh? What's wrong? What's wrong? Oh, your eyes are leaking, Takatomon. Why?
Takato: Just listen. If we're going to be Digimon and his Tamer, you've got to listen to me more. You've got to try harder to stay out of trouble.
Guilmon: And then you'll play with me?
Takato: Yeah.
Y/n: Well, I'm glad this all worked out.
Guilmon: Takatomon, I need a new box.
Later.
Takato, Y/n and their Digimon were walking through the forest.
Takato: Guilmon, stop that.
Guilmon: But if we're not here to chase squirrels, why are we here? I like squirrels.
Impmon: You can chase squirrels later, buddy.
Takato: we need to find a place for you to hide out when I'm in school and stuff, and this seemed like a good choice 'cause not a lot of people come here.
Y/n: Having his spot be in the forest is a start, but he needs an actual shelter.
Takato: You're right. This feels too out in the open. Where can we hide you, Guilmon.
Guilmon looked at the bushes and growled. Then Renamon jumped out of nowhere and kicked Guilmon through a fence.
Takato: Hey!
Rika was also there.
Rika: What a lousy fighter, but a fight's a fight.
Takato: What? But I... I dreamt you.
Rika: Huh? So what? It's time to fight. So clam up. Renamon, walk all over him.
Y/n: I feel completely ignored right now.
Rika: Your Impmon can next if you want.
Impmon: I'm up for it.
Narrator: Will Takato learn to be a good Digimon Tamer, or will he lose Guilmon in a battle before he even gets to know him? Find out on the next "Digimon- Digital Monsters."
