🌙 December 09, 20XX: Prophecy 🌙
"Morning-" I nearly got a green slipper slammed onto my face, but reflexes kicked in and I dodged just as Dan yelled from his room on the third floor, "WHAT'S THE RACKET ABOUT?! DON'T TELL ME THE INSANE OLD MEN ARE AT IT AGAIN!?"
"NO OLD MEN, JUST A CRAZY WOMAN WIELDING A SLI- OW!!"
"I HAVE A NAME AND IT IS NARUMI AKIKO!!"
I poked my head into the room to see a brown-haired girl with a red-pink jacket, a pink shirt, plus short blue pants hitting Akinori on the head like he was the bane of her existence. Tsukinami Touma simply watched with a blank face while Ayame had a worried look.
"Wha...?" I blinked while Winnie joined me, the Fujihana staring at me as she asked, "What's wr-"
She then noticed the ruckus and let out a groan. "Great. No one thought to warn us?"
"Hey, you should have known when Luno-nee asked for it." Wuliang chuckled as he walked over.
"W-What is going on?" Morinomiya muttered as she hid behind Asagao-san, looking pretty nervous.
"The people Luno-san requested arrived a bit too early," Mikado Haru, Yuga's cousin/surrogate younger brother, said with a sigh while his Buddy, Mukuro, had a slipper mark on his face, making Winnie snort. "So Akiko-san got you too, huh?"
"Wait, what do you mean they arrived? I thought I asked for Philip-san."
"Ah, I should have warned you, Luno-nee. If you call Uncle Philip... You call the entire group." He sheepishly smiled as we watched Philomena have a stare down with a brown-haired male with navy blue eyes, a red leather jacket, a black shirt underneath, red pants and black boots. "That's Uncle Ryu, Akiko's husband."
He pointed to a lavender-haired girl with pink eyes, a white shirt, black jeans and black boots chatting with Jinhyuk-san. "Aunt Tokime, who's an assistant detective for the Narumi Detective Agency, and..."
He then gestured to the pair just watching, one with fascination, the other with exasperation. The fascinated one wore a pink flowy vest, a white shirt, beige fingerless gloves, green cargo pants, and brown boots, while the other one wore a black fedora, a black suit, a dark orange tie and black dress shoes. "The two-in-one detective, Uncle Shotaro and Uncle Philip. Uncle Philip!"
The green-haired male with blue-green eyes turned over, and his eyes lit up. "Wuliang!"
He immediately embraced the younger child while the other, who I assumed to be Shotaro, patted his head. "Hey kiddo."
I walked over once beckoned by Wuliang, and he said, "Uncle Philip, this is Akashiro Luno-nee. She's the one who asked for your help."
"I see. I am Philip. Nice to meet you, Akashiro-san," He said with a smile.
"Nice to meet you too," I answered while holding out the three accessories. "These are the things I wanted you to look into."
"Hmm..." He took them into his hand, weighing them left and right as his eyes narrowed. "Fascinating. It gives off a unique digital aura."
Huh? "You can see that?" I asked, surprised.
"My partner is a data-human hybrid, so he's trained himself ever since the Second Reboot to see that kind of thing," Shotaro-san said, his red eyes bright. "His Gaia Library has also expanded a lot over the past ten years."
"Wait, so you're from Wuliang's time?" Yuga blinked as he walked in.
"Yeah. It was Philip who taught Wuliang how to master his Aura and I taught him how to investigate. Plus, apparently our past selves are busy," He answered while adjusting his fedora. "But enough talk about that. Should we get started?"
"Yeah, we should," Philip-san nodded.
The others were slowly filing in as Philip-san stood at the center. "Just to explain how this goes, we filter out what we need with keywords. I hear you are a detective, Akashiro-san?"
I nodded. "Formerly at least."
"The skills are important here, so I advise you to choose your keywords wisely."
"Alright," I said with a sigh. "Let's go."
He smiled as he adjusted his stance and held out his arms, glowing as he called out, "First keyword, Mystical Travels! Next keyword, please Luno!"
"Digimon!" I quickly said.
"Next one please!"
"Power beyond Mega!"
"Next?"
Here, I went quiet. What should I...
"You know the keyword you need to use, so I advise you use it, Luno."
How did he?!
"Shotaro is the same at times," He answered with a smile even while his eyes were closed. "It might help, you know."
I gulped, but inhaled and said, ".... Bushomon, Hoshimon, Zetsuboumon and Oujamon."
"Thank you." He opened his eyes as a book appeared in his hands and he looked through it with the other members of the agency joining him. "Hm... Very, very intriguing. A prophecy has been uttered about this very thing."
"A... Prophecy?" Dan repeated, rubbing his ears.
"Indeed," He said.
"Broken hearts unite to heal,
Mistakes are faced without a choice.
Begin and end with a single appeal
When pain and sorrow find their voice."
"Wha?" Hiro blinked.
"That sounds... Weird," Dad admitted.
I felt the same way. Broken hearts unite to heal? Beginning and ending with an appeal? Pain and sorrow have a voice? What?
"Prophecies do tend to have double meanings," Winnie hummed. "I'm not too surprised."
"I don't get it," Hiro groaned. "Is this literature and all that?"
"Noooo!! I already suck at literature as I ammmm!!" Koutarou wailed.
"Well, here is an interesting part; apparently, a person named HE had used the aforementioned Digimon for his Sin Code experiments due to their involvement with this certain issue. The team formed in this era was called... The Spiritual Fruits DigiDestined."
"Spiritual Fruits? The fruits of the spirit!!" Subaru gasped.
"Like the ones the Dragods have?" Shin Ayumi asked.
"Indeed. In fact, these artifacts allow the Dragod evolution your timeline has," He said. "They are also... the first team the Creator made."
"What?!" Shin Tasuku's eyes widened.
"Wait, wait, wait, you mean that team?!" Remdepiamon gasped.
"What team?" Ruri blinked.
"The first team... The one the Creator wished he could have helped... He kept on telling us over and over again that he regretted that the most..."
"What... does that mean?" I asked quietly.
"I don't know, but as for its members, well... Interestingly enough, Menoa Bellucci was their leader with her partner Morphomon." Philip-san then opened up a holographic screen to show various faces-
My eyes immediately zeroed in, not on Menoa Bellucci but...
Two men. One blonde, one carrot-head.
I... I had seen those two before. In a picture when Uju had-
"N-No way...!" Uju gasped. "My grandparents had been involved with Digimon...?"
"Grandma!!" Ruri and Asagao-san both chorused at the same time, before they looked at each other as they saw that they were pointing at the same person.
"W-Wait your grandmother was... My grandmother...?" Ruri stammered.
'Then that means...!" Asagao-san gasped. "We're cousins!"
Aoi was also pale as she looked at another male. "Grandpa... He... He was involved too?"
Semo-sensei gaped at the same time Morinomiya paled. "My birth parents..."/"Grandma, grandpa..."
They then stared at each other, eyes growing wider by the minute while MusosIatreiamon sighed.
But I immediately made a beeline for Uju and gave him a gentle hug, which he gladly took as I felt tears stain my jacket. He was really overwhelmed, huh...? To hear that his grandparents had...
Philip-san gave us time to process it, so once we were back in our seats, he started, "MusosIatreiamon and Robinhoodmon were also part of this group, but there was also a Pomumon, a MetalFantomon and an Aphroditmon."
"A Pomumon...? Wait, but Pomumon can evolve into Entmon!" Bokomon realised.
I felt all the colour drain from my face. That Entmon...! Don't tell me he was... He was a partner to a DigiDestined....!
"So that case wasn't just a dud..." Dan paled.
"Sadly, all of these people are dead. Cha Aba would die to the serial killer known as Akashin Tsukimichi, despite his partner escaping, while most of them would either die brutal deaths or of a mysterious ailment. One instance would be Tak Beom and Yoo Young, who married and died in a warehouse fire despite their prowess in mechanics." Philip-san added.
Dad became a ghost as Aoi slowly turned to him. "You... You killed grandpa...?"
"I... He was Akame's father wasn't he...?" He seemed downright shaken. "Oh my God I... I..."
I felt Uju hug me tighter, and I gently returned it to let him cry. Being reminded of the loss was definitely not fun...
"Those artefacts you have right now are used in triggering the nine fruits of the Spirit and Spirit itself. Menoa Bellucci represented Spirit in the team."
"Grandma did...?" I repeated.
Philip-san nodded. "The silver bells were for Spirit, the wreath was for peace, and the mistletoe was for love. I have no doubt you will find others along the way, but as of right now, this is all I can give."
"Wait, so who did they fight?" Hiro asked.
His next statement made us GG kids pale.
"The Fragmented Codes of Melancholy and Hubris. In fact, these codes were given to HIM alongside the information on the four Digimon Akashiro mentioned."
"WHAT?!" Ryubo-san shivered.
"So our partners... They were chosen because of..." Mika shook.
"Indeed." He sighed. "I apologize for the... Upsetting news. Usually Shotaro and the others can handle it pretty well, so..."
"It's fine. We did ask you for the information," I said. "Thank you, Philip-san."
"But wait, who are the others on the screen?" Ichita asked.
"I think one of them is Azami's grandmother," I squinted, and indeed I recognised her from the picture. "Yeah that's her."
"And the other two, they should be... Tianheng and Jang's grandparents..." Morinomiya said.
"Who now?" Shutendouji/Sakami Haruya asked with a frown.
"They..." The two former Perfectio members shared a glance, but soon they sighed as Asagao-san said, "Jang and Tianheng are also part of Perfectio. Tianheng is the next one after me to go after you all, so..."
"He also has three partners... I'm sure Luno knows who they are..."
My eyes widened. Hang on...
"Are you saying that... This Tianheng is the partner to the Agumons?" I stammered.
"The who now?" Hiro blinked.
"The case that Uju helped me out with," I said. "The one about the blizzards. That was when I got the hint about the Codes."
Then I stopped. "Wait, hold on... What did you mean when you said FRAGMENTED CODES?"
"They... Are not natural. Even in the Original Dimension, where we and Wuliang originate from, there is no such thing as a Sin Code of Melancholy or Hubris. Moreover..." He turned to Dan and Dia, exhaled and said, "You two were once hit by the codes. The Fragmented Codes, I mean."
"HOLD ON WHAT?!" Venoclaw, yet another Bakugan partner of Ichita's, gaped.
"So it wasn't Pride or anything...?" Dan asked while Wynton hugged Dia.
"Indeed. The Codes pretended to be part of the original 7. Not to mention, the Codes... They affect humans to affect others. These codes also act like viruses and kill off whoever gets hit with them. The only reason Dan Kouzo, Diana Jenkins, Kinmokusei Asagao and Himemaki Morinomiya have not gotten hit by this was due to the mark being destroyed before it fully took them over. And even then, there are many variables to this."
"What kind of variables...?" I asked.
"Emotional vulnerability, irritability, and rumination. Those three can trigger aggression, and, consequently, feelings of melancholy and hubris at the same time. In other words... The more vulnerable you are... The longer it takes for you to be infected."
"Wait, wouldn't it intensify it?" Lizzy Blueton pointed out while SS Lisa nodded. "It feels like it makes more sense for it to intensify."
"It requires certain conditions to make it fully grow... Although... One thing that concerns me is..." He looked at me, eyes filled with worry.
I felt yet another tug of irritation and snapped, "What?"
He looked away but finally said, "The book... Said that Eosmon... Was infected with the code... And her state before she saved you... Was because of it."
My eyes widened. I felt limp and had to sit down as the words he said hit me right there.
The Fragmented Codes... They had been there all along. They...
They had made Eosmon suffer...!
"Are you saying that she won't awaken because of the Codes?!" I suddenly grabbed his shoulders, shaking him back and forth. "You're saying that it caused her pain?!"
"Luno, stop!!" Shotaro-san tried to pry me off but I punched him off as I grabbed Philip-san, eyes crazed while screaming, "How do I... How do I break this curse?! How do I free her-"
"Is she truly going to be happy if you do that?!" He said back, and I froze as he continued, "Have you considered how she might feel!? IS THIS TRULY FOR YOU OR IS IT FOR HER!? IS IT TO FUEL YOUR HUBRIS, YOUR MELANCHOLY?!"
I... I...
"I've seen a lot of cases, I've met a lot of people... And I can tell you that from what I've read, Eosmon... She died happily because she knew she had protected you. But... Are you genuinely going to play God and bring her back? Tell me, who is truly benefited by this, Eosmon or you?!"
He... He...
I stumbled back, feeling my heart ache so, so badly as what he said truly sunk in. As my actions, my beliefs shattered.
Had I... Truly been thinking for Eosmon?
"Ehh? But it was just getting so good?" A new voice then called out, making us all freeze as Akira, Amato, a male with green eyes and dark blue-green hair and the rest of the team appeared.
Perfectio?!
+ SPIRITUAL DIGILEMMA +
"Daiki Akira, I assume," Philip frowned while sliding into a battle stance.
"Well, so you decided to cheat and get information from outside of our multiverse? Naughty, naughty." Sistermon Ciel wagged a finger at us. "I thought you would at least play fair."
"Well, Aruke-san is not around because he's still mourning the loss of his best friend. Plus, I don't see why we have to bother him with this," Hiro coldly answered.
"The real question is, how the **** did you get here?!" Dan demanded.
"Oh, us? It's nothing much, really~" Akira smirked. "Our other inventor helped us out a lot!"
But then his eyes noticed Morinomiya and Asagao-san, and they seemed to... Soften? as he asked, "Are you sure you want to stand with them? Even after what we learnt today?"
"If anything I'm more sure of the choice I've made," Asagao-san said, eyes pleading (?). "Please, Akira-san. You need to stop this madness... All of you..."
"After what humanity, what everyone did to us? No way. Not even Digimon would accept us. Not even Appmon would accept us. Not even fellow human beings could. So tell me, Asagao. Why the **** would they accept us? Especially the Sacrifice." His ice-cold eyes glared at me as Akira continued, "Thank you for giving us that information, though, Philip-san. I'm sure some people have gotten closure."
Amato's chocolate eyes were filled with anger towards Dad as the other guy held him back. "YOU KILLED MY ATOK!! YOU... YOU WILL PAY!!"
And Dad flinched a lot at that while Akira said, "Amato, let's not end his suffering right away. We're still going by order. Tianheng?"
"Ah," The unknown person nodded while stepping forward, with another of the figures stopping Amato as he walked towards us. "I am Yü Tianheng."
And right behind him, 3 familiar faces looked back at me and looked away as Tianheng said, "My challenge is simple. Take it as a game for those game lovers in your group. Mikado Yuga, Higashimitarai Kiyoshiro, Tsukinami Touma, Dan Kouzo and Nomura Koutarou. I challenge you all to find the case I and my partners caused. You have all the data you need right now in front of you, so I look forward to seeing how you figure it out."
"What?! You caused more cases aside from the Snowman case?!" I sputtered.
Tianheng turned to me, adjusting his dark green shirt and his blue-grey scarf as he said, "I commend you for winning the battle against IceDevimon and Mojyamon without your partners, but I can promise you that I won't let you win this time. Not after how you brutally murdered my partners."
I... Had no words to counter. Right now, my mind was swirling around so much I felt nausea.
"You act as if we're going to let you all get away, though!" Ichita activated his Aura while the others did the same.
Tianheng chuckled while he said, "Fools. I never said it was going to be a fight."
He held out his brown and green-rimmed Digivice while all three glowed, but their eyes.... Were filled with pain...
"NO!!!" I screamed. "STOP-"
But... It was done.
YukiAgumon, ToyAgumon and ClearAgumon Fragment Evolve to!!
"Jaltermon!"
Oh my Kami... What... Just... What...?
The Digimon was humanoid with the entirety of its body split into two; one was a beast-like sadist, and the other was a human-like hunter. But the grin was so discombobulated... The left side had a widely stretched one, and the right side had a tight-lipped one. A spectrum of colors was on both sides, contrasting the other...
But Philip-san and Shotaro-san looked sick to the stomach for some reason...
"What in the world...?" Philip-san shuddered. "It looks like they copied and made a darker version of W..."
"Partner, we should help out as well," Shotaro-san said while holding out something, but then a lightning bolt nearly hit them as one of the sides yelled, "Outsiders should stay out of this!!"
"Then we're all outsiders, but it doesn't mean we're not gonna help!!" Chikao Sana yelled while swinging her sword left and right in the air, inserting a medal in. "Enma Mode!!"
"Let's kick some butt!!" Timeruler Dragon roared as Yuga and Anastasia connected and summoned their Earth Armour.
"Bokomon!!" I yelled.
"Got it!" He nodded.
"Let's do this, Elico!" The final member of the Uriah-Wei system, Seath Taite, yelled while holding their Bakugan out.
"Oh!!!" The Aquos Bakugan roared.
"Bakugan Brawl! Bakugan Stand!" They chanted as their outfit shifted to an Aquos colour before they slid into a battle stance, holding their bow and arrow tightly.
Bokomon Mega Evolve to...!
"AncientWisemon!!" He called out while I was about to grab my taser but froze.
I... Did I genuinely deserve to join the fight when all I had been so far was selfish?
Why had I... Why...?
"Luno?" He looked back.
I snapped out of it. "Y-Yeah?"
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"Y-Yeah!" I lied, smiling at him as I said, "Let's stop them, AncientWisemon!"
He seemed to frown at that but nodded.
Sana was slicing at the Digimon while Elico blasted it with multiple water attacks and Yuga and Anastasia attacked as well. AncientWisemon joined the fight but I was starting to feel even dizzier. My thoughts, they were...
"Murderer!"
"Selfish *******!?"
"You should have died a long time ago..."
"YOU WERE SOOOOO EASY TO FOOL~"
I gripped my head, nausea washing over me as I fell to one knee. I felt so sick, so disgusted with myself. Just...
Just why did I have to have this condition!? Why couldn't my brain be normal!? Where the **** did my mental illness even come from!? ****! All I did was inconvenience others with all the selfish things I've done...
"Luno-"
I heard the battle going on. I heard screaming, yelling, pain echoing...
But the paralysis was deep. I felt terrified of myself. I wanted... I was nothing but a waste of space that everyone would be glad to be rid of... Everyone I know had been hurt by my actions. Mei, Hiro, Dad, Pump... Boko and Baku too... No one was safe from the pain I had inflicted...
I felt tears streaming down my eyes again as my breathing grew erratic. ****... I really was a nuisance... Wasn't I...?
"Luno, breathe!"
S-Shin Bernard-san? Even through the pain, I could feel the hand on my back as he said, "Luno, you are having a panic attack right now, so I need you to breathe."
Breathe?! But how...?
"Focus all your energy on your breathing. Take it slowly and make sure to take as much time as needed." Philip-san!? "You need to be able to breathe in order to think clearly."
"W-What's the point?! I just... I just hurt those around me..." I stammered.
"But they love you too, and to be frank, no one in this world can go on without accidentally hurting people. Only God can," Shin Bernard said. "And perhaps you may think it doesn't apply to you, but trust me it does matter. Even if you're not a Christian... You're still loved."
"STOP BRINGING UP A ****ING GOD FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS SUPERNATURAL!!!" I screamed. "WHO THE **** CARES?! EVEN IF, BY SOME MIRACLE, I COULD BE FORGIVEN, I WILL NEVER CHANGE! I'M STUCK IN THIS CYCLE ALWAYS! THE DAIKIS WERE RIGHT! RYUBO-SAN AND OUJIAOAOMON WAS RIGHT! AZAMI WAS RIGHT! I'M JUST A ****ING SACRIFICE! SOMEONE MEANT TO DIE FOR THE GOOD OF OTHERS!"
"How can you know until you try!? How the heck are you so sure that it's gonna flop!?"
"Because I tried... I tried so ****ing hard! I worked my *** off everyday hoping somehow the blood of those I killed would be cleaned off me, but red stains! It always has, and it always will! I'm a ****ing psychopath! Just like the Daikis! And unlike Dad... There is no h-"
"DON'T YOU DARE SAY THAT!!"
"S-Sana-sempai?!" Natsume yelped as she stormed over, Kiyoshi-san taking her place as she marched and grabbed my hoodie, pulling me up. Her blue eyes BURNED so brightly and her words were equally as harsh. "SO YOU THINK YOU DON'T HAVE HOPE!? THEN WHAT ABOUT THOSE WHO STAYED DEAD!? ISN'T IT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CARRY ON LIVING FOR THEM!? DON'T YOU OWE IT TO THEM TO KEEP TRYING AND TRYING, NO MATTER HOW HARD IT GETS?! YOU DON'T DISRESPECT THE DEAD LIKE THIS, AKASHIRO LUNO!!! YOU DON'T DECIDE HOW YOUR VICTIMS FEEL! YOU DON'T DECIDE WHEN YOU WANT TO SAY GOODBYE! LIFE WILL HAPPEN AND ONLY THEN WILL I BE OKAY WITH YOU SAYING IT! BUT UNTIL THEN, DO ME A FAVOUR AND FIGHT! Prove... if nothing else, prove that you were allowed to live on for a reason instead of your victims. It's... It's the least you can do for them... You owe them that ****ing much... "
"Sana's right! You don't have to be perfect, and maybe you've made worse mistakes, but grace means that you're forgiven no matter what and that you should MOVE FORWARD AND GROW! Stop moping and start doing! That's the right way to atone for your sins! Stop thinking that it's impossible and begin thinking it is! Only you determine the limits but we all know you can go beyond this, Luno! So please... please don't give up..." Shin Bernard pleaded while Philip-san nodded.
"I..." I felt my ache recede a bit as I thought about it. They were right... I had been holding back too much, and... it had caused so much pain... I had nearly lost people I cared about all because I had been too paralysed...
Courage... didn't exist without fear. Courage is a CHOICE you make in the face of fear. Being fearless... meant that you stand tall even in the darkest days.
I felt a lot calmer once I realised that as I got up. "I... I get where you're coming from now. T-Thank you, Sana, Shin Bernard-san and Philip-san."
"Nichevo strashnava (no problem)," Shin Bernard-san smiled while Sana grinned and Philip-san chuckled.
Then, my eyes caught something behind them; Daiki Akira, for once, didn't have a cocky smirk on his face. No, it was... quiet, contemplative... pained, as if... he was hurt by my words.
What in the world?...
But then I noticed the others were slowly losing this, so I rushed into the drome Seath had set up and yelled, "AncientWisemon, Hathor's Word Ribbons!"
"Alright, you're back! And no problem about that!" he answered while veins of ribbons in various colours snaked out of him and latched onto Jaltermon.
"So you decided to join us. Boohoo," Tianheng mocked. "Sadly, this is where we wrap up. Jaltermon, DISSOCIATIVE SCREECH!"
The Digimon then opened its mouth-
I felt like my entire body was detaching my soul away from it. Every neuron was firing pain, pain, pain-
And then it was gone, but when we looked up, Team Perfectio was gone.
"Ugh! We lost them!" Hiro growled.
"It's fine, but I'll work on strengthening the defenses in this place," Duri-sensei said. "We can't have another situation like this one happening again, especially once January comes around."
"What happens in January?" Uju asked curiously as he stumbled up and I helped him up.
"The All Stars Tournament, which was held off due to November being ****," Dan answered, ignoring his SO's yelp of indignation about how it wasn't all that bad while adding, "We already got through the prelims, so..."
"That's... pretty interesting," Morinomiya muttered from behind Asagao-san. "I... would like to watch with the others..."
"Yeah..." Asagao-san nodded.
"Either way, we got challenged, and I, for one, would like to see what kind of game he set out for us!" Yuga said while adjusting his belt. "Let's get to work, guys!"
"Alright," Dan nodded.
"P-Please let it not be scary..." Kiyoshiro prayed.
Touma said, "We'll take some time to think about it, so until then, kick back and relax."
"Got it," Ayame nodded.
"Kou? You gonna join them?" Hiro's statement had me turning to see the other looking a bit conflicted as he said, "Ah, true. I'll see you around then, HiHi."
"Good luck, Kou," he warned.
"Hiro-sama, you have worse luck than I do!"
"HEY!"
I chortled, but then turned to Philip-san and said, "... Thanks for the help, really."
"It is of no issue. I..." he frowned. "I do need to caution you about something, though."
"Huh?" I blinked.
"Sometimes... the 'protector' can become an oppressor, so accepting that mistakes can happen and that you can't control everything may help you out here. Also... Sometimes, those who you see as evil may not be so."
Wha? "O... kay?" I hesitantly said. I didn't really know what to say.
"Oh, and you're not a Sacrifice. You're you and the journey to acceptance is long, but... don't be too hurt when stuff goes wrong," he said.
"I don't really get it, but thanks. I'll keep it in mind."
He smiled as he looked up. "Huh, so this is the island where all the worlds intersect... this place is beautiful. I would like to come visit again, if possible."
"You should. All of us would welcome you and the other members of the agency here," I said.
He chuckled, saying, "Well, I don't know about that, but I do think that you were never truly a good fit for a detective."
Huh? "What do you mean by that?"
"Perhaps your true passion, your true identity has yet to be found." He smiled. "Take some time to think about it."
"Did you see other things in the book?" I realised, and he snapped his fingers. "I can't tell you yet. Wuliang's Papa said not to speak of things that have yet to happen, but I can let you know that this month is not all bad. It will be hard but you can make it, so when you require assistance, lean on those who you love and they will help you get there."
"Is there... truly a light at the end of the tunnel?" I asked quietly while looking down. It felt so... impossible...
"There is. Trust me, there is. So keep running and trying. All of us in the SRS are cheering you on as well."
"I..." Even though I had...
I closed my eyes and smiled as I opened them again, placing my hand on my heart. "Thank you, Philip-san. I'll keep it in mind."
"That's great," He smiled back before he got on Shotaro-san's motorcycle while Tokime-san and Akiko-san got onto a red motorcycle that wasn't there before?
"Don't ask. The OD is complicated," Wuliang chuckled mysteriously as a portal opened up and we waved them away, the vortex closing behind them.
"I wasn't even going to ask!" I protested.
"Yeah, yeah, so you say," he joked. "Anyway, let's go help the gamers. We need to figure out what case they caused, you know."
"True," I said. "Alright, let's go."
I definitely still didn't get what Philip-san meant, but I was going to try to move forward, to have courage as this month went on. It was scary, yet maybe... leaning on others wasn't a bad idea.
(Philip-san's predictions came true, alright. Just... when I was least expecting it.)
