Rythna (SFW)
TW: Fluffy Ball Of Fluff
Title: ~It's Not Just Magic We've Got Chemistry~
Lalna looked at the folded photo and sighed. He wished, more than anything, that things could go back to the way they once were. He missed his old friend and he hated the things he had done out of anger. If only Rythian would listen to him, just for a minute, he would understand. Lalna hadn’t wanted any of this to happen, he had just wanted to teach Sjin a lesson and everything got out of control and people got hurt. Sighing again, he folded the picture up again and tucked it into his pocket. For a moment his bright blue eyes welled up with tears, but then he brushed them away roughly with the back of his hand and determinedly set his face in a steadfast expression. He had work to do and he couldn’t let nostalgia get the best of him. Pushing the newly dredged up memories to the back of his mind, he set to work tinkering with the inside of a faulty computer.
Far away, at Blackrock Stronghold, Rythian was pouting. Sitting with his back to the wall in his magic room, he looked at a small painting that hung across the room. He wasn’t sure how he hadn’t noticed it before; Zoey must have found it and hung it up in a subtle attempt to get him to make peace with the scientist. What happened Lalna? Where did it all go to hell? He thought, grinding his teeth as he stared at the picture of the two men, boys really, with their arms around each other, laughing with carefree expressions on their faces. He wished that his old friend hadn’t pushed him to this point, that he hadn’t destroyed the old world, intentionally or not. It had hurt so bad, the fire everywhere, watching everyone die around him. Remembering the bitter memories, Rythian tucked his face into his arms and quietly cried.
Hours later, after drifting in and out of sleep, Rythian sat up wearing a determined expression, though his eyes showed a slight hint of doubt. He decided he was going to visit Lalna and see why he had done everything back then, finally get his side of the story. Besides, he was lonely, Zoey had been gone for weeks now and the castle was quiet without her cheerful noise, he could use some company, no matter how mad he might be. Slipping his Swiftwolf’s Rending Gale onto his finger, Rythian took flight and aimed his course towards Lalna’s castle.
Sprawled discouraged on the floor, Lalna’s ears pricked up as he heard the sound of a timid, but clear knock on the enormous door that guarded the entrance to his castle’s courtyard. Wondering who it was, he walked quickly towards the teleporter, beaming down to the ground level, the quite buzz of the teleporter accompanying him on the way down. Hurrying to the computer controls, he typed in the command to open the door, then, turning, nearly fell over in shock as he saw Rythian standing there on the edge of the cliff in front of his home, his hands behind his back and a somewhat shameful look on his face, which was fixed firmly on the ground.
“H-hi Lalna… How are you?” Rythian stuttered out, his gaze still on the grass.
“I’m… I’m good. How are you Ryth?” Rythian’s eyes snapped up and they both blushed as Lalna used Rythian’s pet name out of old, unbroken habit.
“I’m good… listen, I just thought instead of fighting we could… talk maybe?” Rythian said, shyly, shoving his hands nervously into his pockets.
“Um, yeah, definitely, uh, come in!” Lalna manged to squeak out, fiddling with his goggles and brushing his messy, blonde hair out of his eyes as Rythian edged past him, gazing around the courtyard. “Um, why don’t we have a drink, do you drink at all..?” Lalna asked anxious not to offend his unexpected guest.
“You don’t happen to have any whiskey, do you?” Rythian asked, a sudden hopeful glow in his eyes.
“I do, actually I make it myself! Why don’t we head down to the wine cellar?” Lalna said, relieved, as he lead Rythian down the cracked, mossy steps.
Several hours, and many more drinks later, the two old friends were friends once again, the whole thing worked out as a misunderstanding.
“You should have just told me that you were trying to get back at Sjin, we would have help reprimand that thief!” Rythian slurred, half slumped on the table as Lalna nearly fell out of his chair giggling at the man across from him struggling to make himself understood.
“I think maybe you’ve had enough Ryth, you’re a little more than tipsy,” Lalna laughed, stumbling to get up himself. Just before he fell to the hard floor, Rythian blinked next to him and caught him against his chest. Standing there, swaying gently, the two men looked into each other’s eyes, blushing furiously. Slowly straightening up, Lalna very hesitantly stood on his tip toes and gently pressed his lips against Rythian’s. Recovering quickly from his initial shock, Rythian returned the man’s kiss enthusiastically, entangling his fingers in the blonde’s hair, pulling the goggles off his head and setting them on the table. Finally breaking apart, panting for air, the pair smiled softly at each other. They were finally reunited, the mage and the scientist, the unstoppable duo were back, and Tekkitopia was just theirs for the picking. Neither of them were concerned with that though; they were too entranced with one another. And as blue met purple, they saw in their eyes the love that had always been there.
