Chapter 6: The Broken Warrior
Leo S: THE LAST CHAPTER THO
Anthony: I'm worried about what you're exposed to...
Martin: *blush* SHUT UP, GUYS.
Ally: -.- I told you all to skip it if you thought it was gross
JBV: I puked reading that
Ally's POV
I looked at Martin with disbelief, and he stared at me back, shocked. Leo made a feeble attempt to dry his tears as all emotion drained from his face. He was the last surviving Warrior of Hades. I looked at Anthony as his sapphire blue eyes went wide with fear and his pupils decreased in size. His jaw hung open as he tried desperately tried to speak, and he finally yelled,
"NO!" Chiron looked at Anthony, his brown eyes showing sorrow and pity. He didn't want to send me on this quest, either. His eyes were filled wirh fright.
"Leo, Martin and Allyson, see me after Alana's funeral." Chiron told us and we three nodded. After a few speeches and tears, we watched Alana's body burn in the fire. But to our surprise, once the last of her body burnt, the ashes flew up and reformed themselves, making Alana's body in their ashes. She looked more human that I thought she would look, just that on her neck, there was a brand: the symbol of Hades. She smiled her familiar smile at Leo, and I could see his heart shattering into a million pieces as he walked forward and Ash Body Alana tried to reach out to him, because she could only stay in the fire. Despite that, Leo reached his hand into the fire and held Ash Body Alana's hand.
"I love you." Leo said to her one last time, before he took a step closer to Ash Body Alana and kissed her on the lips. It looked like a sad kiss, like a kiss before going into battle, a kiss before one left forever. But it was a kiss with meaning, a kiss symbollizing all the memories they had together, all the good times, the bad times. She spoke, and everyone heard her voice clearly.
"I love you too. Stay strong, Leo." And I nearly cried when I saw Leo's eyes, the eyes that once have so much hope, the eyes that crinkled when he laughed, the eyes that glinted with micheviousness and excitement as he explajned something he enjoyed, I saw the last remains of the Leo we all knew dissolve as Alana did.
Chi Yi: *is crying* TOO SAD BRUH TOO SAD
Anthony: *sheds baby tear*
"You may proceed to your daily activities. Leo, Martin and Allyson, please follow me." We three followed Chiron. Leo closed the door of the Big House and we went to the meetimg room. We took our seats, Martin next to me, his finger entangled with mine. I swatted Martin's hand away, since Leo could see and I figured we were adding salt in the wounds Alana's death gave him, and after Alana's death, I just couldn't go into too much romance too soon, and knowing that camera caught our make out session...well, you get the idea. Chiron cleared their throat and said,
"I understand that you all are greiving for Alana. But a quest has called for you three, and in about time, too. Apollo has been taken, and none of the Olympians, even Artemis, can find him." I looked out of the window, and I saw the sun high in the blue sky, as always. I asked,
"If we're gonna help Apollo, why is the sun still up?" Chiron frowned and answered,
"Helios is driving the sun, until Apollo is saved." Then he frowned at us.
"The last line said one was going to die by a sibling's hand, and looking at the facts, none of you are gonna die by each other's hand, if that'll make you feel better, and I would go myself, but the prophecy made itself clear." We all agreed. Chiron shouldn't go, heroes needed training, and he was a second father to most of the older campers. He couldn't die.
"I wouldn't have let you all go to the quest, either, if I had the choice. But since I don't...well, I have to send you as quickly as possible." Leo grimly nodded, and I could tell he was trying not to snap, he was trying to control his insanity. Chiron looked at Leo with symphaty and heartbreak, like Leo was his only child, going off for a battle he was sure to lose. Leo looked at Chiron dead in the eye and told him,
"I'll make sure Martin and Ally come back alive, Chiron." Chiron nodded, and did something unexpected. He walked over to Leo, knelt down and gave him a hug. Leo hugged back, and I watched as they hugged each other, like they were father and son. Chiron couldn't go. He meant too much to Leo, and the rest of the campers. If he died...I shuddered when I thought of what impact that would be on Leo's already demented state of mind. They separated, and Chiron went back to his seat. Just then, Anthony burst in, tears in his eyes. He ran to Chiron and begged at his hooves,
"Chiron, you can't let Ally go, please don't let her go, please!" Chiron looked at Anthony sadly as he calmly ordered,
"Get up, Anthony. I wish she didn't have to go. But the prophecy said the youngest child of Poseidon should go, and Poseidon stopped having children ever since Allyson." He challenged,
"But you have no proof that she's the youngest one yet, we have unclaimed children and some actually look like children of Poseidon-" I interrupted,
"Anthony, I'm sorry, but I have to go. Trying to defy a prophecy would make things harder. I'll be ok, I promise." Anthony turned his head towards me and I saw his heart break in his eyes. Tears welled up in his sapphire blue eyes as he pleaded,
"Then let me go with her, at least. The prophecy mentioned 5 things that are gonna happen, which means most probably one thing is gonna happen to one person and two things to one person which could be me." Chiron sighed in defeat as he agreed,
"You can go, Anthony. Take a seat." Anthony took a seat next to me, and he told us,
"Rumours say Lord Apollo is trapped at Mount Othrys, and if he doesn't get rescued and drive the sun, Helios might go over to the Titan's side. And without the sun, food would stop growing and millions will die of starvation, which leaves the advantage to the Titans, since they have the Earth Mother. I had a few demigods check on it while you 4 were gone, and they barely got out with their lives, and this rumour appears to be true." Martin stood up, and suggested,
"We should leave tomorrow, if that's the case. Apollo may be a god, but he would fade. We can't have an Olympian, out of all gods, fade." We all nodded in agreement and Anthony asked,
"What about the prophecy? One shall take the burden, one shall lose their sanity, one shall offer their soul, those sound awful." Leo announced solemnly,
"I'm most probably the one to lose their sanity. I'm already mostly insane, with Alana's death and everything. Pushjng me deeper won't hurt." We all gasped in shock, even Chiron. Leo just nodded and lowered his head, like he didn't want to talk about it. I pitied him, to be honest. He lost his dad at age 8, his mom when he was 13, then Eli, Alana and I after the Fourth Titan War, and I came back after 5 years and just when Leo was told that Alana was alive, Martin brings back her body almost exactly how Leo brought back mine, according to Anthony. I was surprised he didn't let go.
"Leo, you'll be ok-" Anthony finally said after a long period of silence, but Leo cut him off.
"Don't promise me anything, Anthony. I'm a demigod. I know the risks. I don't need to believe in any bullshit anymore, I don't want to. So can we continue?" Chiron nodded and continued.
"I can only wish you all the best. Go get some rest, you four. You leave tomorrow." We all stood up, and I was about to leave when he said,
"Allyson, can you stay back for a bit? Just a little while." Anthony looked at me, worry in his eyes as he beckoned me to go on. I nodded at Anthony, telling him I'll be back soon, and turned to Chiron.
"Um, okay." I agreed, and Anthony left the room, along with Martin and Leo. As Martin closed the door, Chiron sighed and looked at me with pity.
"Allyson, I wish you didn't have to go to this quest. You need more training, get back on your feet, but if Apollo's in trouble, we have to act fast." I agreed, and he lowered his voice as he asked me,
"Do you have any idea how much your brother cares about you?" I tried my best not to look rude in front of Chiron as I tried to hide my irritation. Everyone says that nowadays. I rambled,
"I know, he lost me for 15 years, he didn't get to see me grow up, he loves me, he cares about me a lot, yeah. I should know by now, by the amount of times he nags at me." Chiron chuckled, and so did I. He smiled at me and told me,
"Anthony really loves you, you know. He'll do anything for you. He'll go to Tartarus, hold the sky, kill any innocent person, curse the gods, the fates, he'll do anything. As long as you're safe, he'll go to any extent to keep you that way. And so will Martin and Leo. You're all Leo has left of a family, and you were Martin's only love. You have to understand how much you mean to them, and how much the enemy can use that as a disadvantage towards your group. If the opposition want something from them, they will use you to get what they want. They're bringing their weakness along in this quest: the only person they still love who's still alive. Stay safe at all costs. Show them you can defend yourself, and excuse them if they...overprotect you. Leo would be the easiest to convince, but I'll be surprised if you ever convinced Anthony that you're perfectly capable of doing things yourself." I nodded, and asked,
"Why does Martin have the title "The Broken Warrior" when Leo's the one who lost all his loved ones?" Chiron frowned, and he responded,
"I didn't want you to ask this question, to be honest. You would distance yourself from him, if you heard the tale. It's better if you didn't know." I pounded my fist on the table and stood up. I had enough of not knowing. I needed to know more. I was fed up of the line It's better if you don't know. That line kept me on so much restrictions for years.
"There's so much I don't know, so much I can't do due of my lack of knowledge, so just skip the goddam safety measurements and tell me something before I go do something stupid to find out!" I ranted, and when he stayed silent, I continued,
"I don't remember my childhood, I don't remember anything before I woke up from my coma 5 years ago, and all this years all I have been told is that it's better if I didn't know anything, and I'm fed up with all that bullshit. If you don't tell me why Martin has that title I will jump off a fucking cliff and all 3 of your best fighters will have a scarring weakness that a word can trigger and will be their demise." Chiron sighed in defeat and calmly told me,
"I'll show you the tale, but you might want to sit down." I did exactly that, and he went for a cabinet, and took out a small bottle filled with ruby red liquid. He gave it to me, and told me,
"This potion will make you see the event in Avies's eyes. You'll be unconscious for a few hours, it'll seem like you're asleep. So, good night." I took the potion, and said,
"To your health, Chiron." Then I put it to my lips and drank the whole thing. It tasted like fever medicine, absolutely revolting. I felt myself drift off as I dropped the bottle, and my worls sprialling into darkness as I fell if the chair. I heard footsteps rushing in and a worried voice shout my name before I lost consciousness.
My eyes opened to see a few people in front of me as I jogged to the drop. A ponytail of blonde hair, a head of chocolate brown hair which I recognised as Leo, a head of blonde hair with a rebellious streak, which I knew as Jason, two heads of identical, raven black hair tied up into exactly identical twin ponytails, and a head of slightly shaggy, black hair.
"Alexandria, Oceana, you both know how to use a blaster, right?" Nico asked as we stopped near the drop. They nodded and their sea green eyes looked at me.
"Avies, you know how to use a blaster?" I nodded, and looked towards the drop. The ground below was Dark Water red, and Leo shuddered.
"You alright, Leo?" Jason asked, and Leo nodded.
"I just can't believe the Blakks did this to Slugterra." Then his expression turned grim as he fought back tears.
"Come on, let's go." Nico said, and tied a rope to a handlebar, and took out his wand. It was made out of oakwood, ten inches long and it's core is a phoenix feather and a hair of hellhound fur, which is why his wand was so special.
"Permentario Stickina!" He said, pointing his wand at the knot, and then doing the same to the handlebar, but he said 'Unbrakablio!' instead.
"Avies, can you try pulling off this handlebar?" I replied in a bass like voice,
"Sure, it looks pretty weak anyway." I put both of my fair coloured hands on the bars and pulled. I tried my best to yank it off, but I couldn't.
"What did you do to it?" I asked as I let go fo the rusty handlebar. Nico replied,
"I cast a Permenant Sticking Spell to the knot, and an Unbreakable Spell on the rope and the handlebars. It won't break. We need this to get out of Slugterra." Nico dropped the rest of the rope down to Slugterra, and we climbed down. When it was my turn, I saw the rest of Slugterra. The once glowing green Lumino Crystals were now Dark Water red, and the walls of Slugterra had Dark Ice and Dark Water flowing down the wals instead of magma and hardened lava. The floor was a ghastly shade of red. The mushroom trees were blackened and red underneath. What was beautiful about Slugterra was gone. I looked at the ground, and I saw the skeletons of deceased slugs. I picked one up, and I growled. How could the Blakks corrupt something so innocent and pure? I heard a small cough, and I looked a few feet to my left. A dying slug, it's colours faded by the Dark Energy, was gasping for air and coughing. I wanted to cry at the sight of it. This was Slugterra now? I ran to the slug and gently picked it up in my huge hands.
"Don't worry, little buddy. You'll be ok." I comforted in Avies's voice. I heard Empira tell me,
"Avies, we have to keep moving." I put the dying slug in my shirt pocket and ran to the rest. Not long later, I heard a roar, and a ghouled Ice Ogre came our way. It roared in fury and pounded its fists against the ground, the force making us fly back. I got up to my feet quickly and ran. I finally stopped when I arrived at a clearing. The floor was black in this forest, and so were the trees, except the trees were Dark Water red underneath.
"Hello? Anyone?" I asked, and I heard someone in the trees. I took out my Roman gladius and asked,
"Is anyone there? I won't hurt you, unless you're the one who corrupted this place." I saw a figure in the bushes, and went closer.
"Ally, please be here, I need you..." I heard a boy's voice beg. His voice sounded hoarse, weak, and broken. I peeked over the bushes to see a boy, who looked around 12 years of age, sobbing on the ground, a Vitalis Crystal dagger strapped to his side and a blaster in his other. His bandoleer was filled with dying slugs. Martin.
"Hello, little boy?" I asked, and the boy jumped up and he took out his dagger.
"Who are you?! Where's Ally?!" He asked me, and before I could reply, he pinned me to a tree trunk, his dagger by my throat, tears in his chocolate brown eyes. His face was sunken and bags hung below his eyes. He was dangerously pale and thin, like he didn't eat for the past few days. I saw a broken spirit in his eyes, a spirit who was broken beyond compare, a broken spirit of a warrior. I pushed the boy off me and I croaked,
"I'm Avies, from Camp Half Blood. You can't stay here, you have to come-" I gasped for air, and continued, "with us." He growled and pounced on me. His knees were on my chest, and he stabbed my left palm. I howled in pain, and he snarled,
"WHERE IS ALLYSON? I SWEAR, IF YOU DON'T TELL ME I WILL KILL YOU, SLOWLY AND PAINFULLY." He took out his dagger from my left hand, and I gritted my teeth, trying not to scream as pain flared up my left arm.
"I don't know where is Allyson. I'm sorry, she's a friend of yours?" I asked politely, and instead of killing me, he got off my chest and curled up into a ball. He started to sob, his body shaking with his sobs and his cries.
"I CURSE THE GODS TO SUFFER PAIN WORSE THAN MINE! I CURSE THE FATES TO PAY FOR WHAT THEY DID TO HER!! HOW COULD YOU?!" He yelled, and sobbed some more. He was deprived from sleep, food, water, positive energy. He was truly broken. He needs to be taken back up to Camp Half Blood, but it'll take a lot. He refused to get near anyone. He was already partially insane. Poor boy. I took out a sandwich from my bag, and took out a syringe fulled with blue substance, which was a sleeping potion. Being careful to hide what I was doing, I injected the sleeping potion into the sandwich, and quickly put away my syringe. I approached the boy and asked him,
"You want something to eat before you continue your search? You look like you could use some food." He looked at me with his broken eyes, and I smiled at him. I put the sandwich in his frail hands, and he looked at me suspiciously before he took a bite of the sandwich. In moments, he was devouring the sandwich out of hunger. After he finished it, I watched as his eyelids drooped, and he tried to stand up.
"What did you do to me...." He muttered, trying to rub the sleep out of his eyes, but failing as he staggered back.
"It's just a sleeping potion, dude. You need some sleep. I'll wake you up, okay?" I comforted, and mumbled,
"But Ally..." His chocolate brown eyes rolled up to his head as he fell to the ground, sleep consuming him. I ran to him and caught him before he could fall to the ground. His breathing was slow and peaceful, and his frail form looked like he was in peace as last as he snored quietly.
"We'll find your friend, Martin. I promise." I told the sleeping figure in my arms.
"Ally? Can you hear me?" I heard a voice whisper, and I stirred. I tried to open my eyes, but I was too groggy. I tried to say something, but all that came out of my mouth were mumbles. Finally, I forced my eyes to open, and I saw Anthony sitting by my bedside, his hair disarray and messed up and bags under his eyes. His eyes lit up with delight when he saw that I woke up.
"Ally! Are you okay?" He asked immediately, and I nodded. I asked him,
"What time is it?" He checked his watch, and squinted at his digital watch.
"It's 1am in the morning." I checked my phone, which was on my bedside, and saw that the time was 3am, not 1am. Did Anthony stay up this late? I tried to sit up, but dizziness engulfed me and I lay back down.
"Anthony, you're reading the time wrong, it's 3am. Go get some sleep, okay?" I asked, and he muttered,
"I wanna stay here with you..." I protested,
"You can't even read the bloody time, go get some rest. I'll be okay." He nodded and kissed my forehead.
"You should get some sleep, too, you know..." I nodded and he left the room. Seconds later, he came back in with a pillow and a blanket. I asked,
"What the Hades are you doing?"
Leo S: Wow Anty wow
Anthony: I wasn't gonna sleep in the same bed as her, it'll be creepy O.o
He responded,
"I'm sleeping here, your place seems nicer than mine." I protested,
"You snore and your room is exactly the same as mine!" He shrugged and got the beanbags Cyan cleaned from the corner. He put them side by side and lay down on both of them, his upperhalf on one beanbag, his lower half on the other beanbag. He put his pillow under his head and his blanket over him, and in seconds, his quiet snores were the only sound in the room. I shrugged and let him sleep as I closed my own eyes, getting the rest I need for tomorrow.
Leo S: The beanbag idea seems like a good idea
Ally: I do it sometimes
Leo S: *tries beanbag idea* This is more comfortable than my bed
