I tapped my fingers impatiently on the table as I sat in one of the back booths in Charly's, waiting for Hayden to get here.

The clock above the board that listed the different milkshake choices told me that he was already 22 minutes late. And I was getting impatient.

I blew air out of my mouth, blowing a strand of hair that had been laying across my face up.

The bell on top of the door rang, signaling that it had been opened.

My eyes moved to the door and I saw Hayden walking through it.

He ran a hand through his already messy hair and took off the sunglasses that were on his face, tucking them into the collar of his dark grey shirt, that was paired with his leather jacket and some dark jeans.

He looked like some prince of darkness. And I'v got to admit, it looked extremely good on him.

His eyes roamed the diner until they found me sitting in the back.

He made his way over to me, glancing to his left as he walked, where a young waitress was wiping the counter. She caught his gaze and winked at him, bending her upper body even more over the counter so that her boobs were showcased better. Hayden smirked but didn't acknowledge her more.

I rolled my eyes at the both of them.

I didn't come here and wait 22 extra minutes just to see some girl trying to seduce him, all to his amusement. I had already eaten dinner and did not feel like bringing it back up again.

"You done flirting with anything that has boobs?" I sarcastically said as he slid into the bench opposite of me.

"Yikes, someone's cranky," he replied and smiled sarcastically at me, matching his attitude up to mine.

I rolled my eyes again and motioned for a waiter to come take our order.

"If I remember correctly, the last time you were here, you're on a date with Max," he smirked.

"If I remember correctly, the last time you were here you were groping some other waitress," I shot back.

The smirk slid off his face and he sent me a glare before it went up again.

"Why? Does it bother you?" he asked and leaned forward.

I also leaned forwards. "It bothers me that you're so horny you can't keep your eyes or even hands to yourself," I whispered, a smirk now on my face.

I watched him as his eyes narrowed. My smirk depend and I leaned back while crossing my arms over my chest, pleased with my comeback.

K.C.:1 Hayden:0

"You don't seem to stay in the shadows either. You have the interest of a couple of guys of your own," he said.

"Name one."

"Max."

"Okay, that doesn't count," I argued. "Name another one."

He stayed quiet, not giving me an answer. Instead, he just studied me with with a look I couldn't decipher.

I raised an eyebrow, looking at him expectantly as I waited for him to say something.

Just then, the waitress from before came up to us with a bouncy step.

"Hello!" she exclaimed, way too energetically for me at 8pm. Her gaze went and stayed on Hayden, not even acknowledging me. "My name is Diana and I'll be your waitress tonight! What can I get you, cutie?"

I looked at Hayden with a look clearly saying 'are you kidding me? Is she being for real?'. He just shrugged, clearing enjoying this, before engaging in a conversation with the waitress.

Not even 3 minutes later, while I was doodling on a napkin with a pen I found on the table behind us, waiting for them to finish talking, the waitress sat on the edge of the table, covering the napkin I was drawing on with her butt.

I let out a deep breath in annoyance, trying very hard to retain myself from shoving her off the table.

Instead, I glared at her back while running my tongue along my teeth.

Diana, who I'm sure should be getting the orders from other customers by now, giggled loudly and shoved Hayden's shoulder playfully. She flicked her hair over one shoulder, hitting me right in the face with it.

That's it!

"Excuse me," I interrupted but neither of them listened. "Excuse me!" I said a little louder.

The waitress turned her head to look at me, dislike evident in her face. Hayden just looked at me with a blank look. I would deal with him later.

"Would you be so kind as to get you lazy ass off of our table and maybe do your job instead of flirting with customers? You can gladly do that in your free time," I spoke.

She rolled her eyes but hopped off the table, my napkin coming into view again.

"Who shoved a stick up her ass?" she mumbled to herself.

"No one. But I'm about to shove a pitchfork up yours," I dead panned.

A look of amusement took over Hayden's face as he watched us. I was itching to wipe the look off his face but right now I had someone else to deal with.

"Why don't you just get us two chocolate smoothies," Hayden suggested as the waitress scoffed at me.

She looked at him and sent him a sweet smile. "Of course," she said before walking into the kitchen.

I glared at Hayden with a raised eyebrow, wanting to know what his deal was.

"What?" he asked me when he saw my expression.

"Okay. First of all, I don't want a chocolate smoothie," I told him, addressing one of the many topics I wanted to cover.

"How could you not want a chocolate smoothie?"

"Because I only like the strawberry ones," I shot back.

"I bet that you just haven't tasted the chocolate one yet, but are pretending like you don't want to taste it just to disagree with me."

I rolled my eyes, even though he was completely right.

"Whatever. Secondly, if you feel like hitting on girls please do that in your own time. It's A) not entertaining to watch and B) extremely boring and annoying. Got it?"

Just then, the waitress came back with our milkshakes. She gently placed Hayden's in front of him and slammed mine down, making a little spill over the sides.

I raised an eyebrow in disbelief at her.

What was her problem?

"Now, now," Hayden scolded. "That's not how you treat customers."

"My apologies," she said to Hayden even though she spilled my drink and wiped the milkshake on the table up with some napkins before disappearing.

My god were girls extremely sensitive and dramatic in this town.

"Fine," Hayden responded, answering to my last comment. "Anything else on your heart that you wish to speak."

"Yes. I don't want you budging in on any arguments or fights or whatever else I might have with someone. That even more annoying that watching you flirt with girls."

"K.C., that girl would have torn you to shreds."

I scoffed. "That is not true. You have no idea what I can and can't do."

He sighed. "Fine, I won't butt in, unless....it looks like you're seconds away from going unconscious or like you're about to be killed."

"That won't happen, but fine."

Hayden nodded, his gaze shifting to the napkin I was drawing on. I followed his gaze and barely realised what I had been mindlessly doodling.

It was some ring, with intricate designs of snakes and skulls on the sides. Why did I draw that?

"What is that?" Hayden asked me while grabbing the napkin to take a closer look.

"I don't know," I shrugged. "I have no idea what or who's it is. I guess I just got it from my imagination or maybe I've seen it somewhere before. Why?"

Hayden licked his lips before looking up at me and answering. "Remember the first guy that died and how his finger was cut off?"

I nodded, trying to keep my dinner down from just thinking about it.

"This," he said and held up the napkin, "was the ring that he always wore, until it was stolen."

My eyes widened in surprise and I grabbed the napkin out of his hand. "Then how would I know what it looks like?"

"I'm not sure. Maybe you really did see it somewhere. Do you maybe remember seeing it on someone else?"

"I don't know. I don't even remember seeing it at all."

Hayden stayed quiet, a concentrated look on his face. He reached into his jacket and took out the folder that he showed me at school. He opened it and spread both of the papers out on the table.

"We need to find out why they're all dying so suddenly. It's not like they did before," Hayden told me as we studied the death certificates he had stolen from the principal.

"Maybe they just had a depressing life," I suggested and shrugged my shoulders while taking a sip of my milkshake.

Hayden rolled his eyes. Suddenly, he shoved all of the papers that were strewn across the table together and put them back into the folder.

As I was about to ask him what was going on, Diana came up to our table.

"Is everything good here?" she asked Hayden, once again completely ignoring me.

"Everything's fine, thanks," he told her, not engaging into any further conversation.

She waited a little to see if he would say anything else but when he didn't she finally left. Hayden let out an exasperated sigh and took the papers out of the folder again.

"Well, don't you think we should firstly find out why the principal is lying about the deaths? And if everyone else is too?" I suggested.

"Probably. But I'm not sure how."

I was about to reply when everything happened at once.

A gunshot went off. Diana screamed and the guy who had been sleeping in the corner hit his head on the table, waking up. My wide eyes snapped to Hayden.

"Shit," he cursed.

I sprung up from my seat and was about to run outside to see what had happened when Hayden grabbed onto my arm, holding me back.

"K.C., no!" he ordered. "It's way too dangerous for you to just go outside."

"But....!" I argued.

I looked out of the windows to see someone running away and into the woods not too far away. "Look! He's getting away!"

I ripped my arm out of Hayden's tight grasp and ran outside of the diner, just in time to see the last flash of the person who had shot the gun before he completely disappeared.

I looked down and two feet away from me, was a girl laying on the ground. Her red hair was strewn around her head on the concrete. Her light gray t-shirt was soaking with blood from the shot wound on her chest. There was a lifeless look in her eyes and her chest wasn't moving.

"God damn it," Hayden muttered as he came up to me.

He stared down at the girl in her hot red mini skirt and leather jacket. A piercing on her right eyebrow also gave away that she was another Bandit.

"I'm gonna see if there's a phone inside," Hayden informed me. "Stay here."

I couldn't find my voice so I just nodded, not being able to take my eyes off of the girl in front of me.

Hayden jogged back into Charly's. I tore my eyes away from the girl and watched him as he called for Diana to show him the phone when she jumped up from behind the counter and leaped over the counter, into his arms.

She was sobbing and clutching him tightly to herself, even though I didn't see any tears or evident fear.

He tried to pry her away from him but she clung tightly to him.

Somewhere on the other side of the parking lot I heard the engine of a car and looked down the street to see a car driving away.

My eyes widened and I took off running.

I had recognised the car and needed to know if the person driving it had anything to do with the dead girl laying at my feet.
