TROYE'S POV

I wake up. David smiles at me.

"You have today to be with your friends."

I clutsily stand up and run to the open door. Zalfie and Tyler are sitting in silence on the tiled floor.

I run to Tyler and he shakes his head no.

I stop, feet away from him, confused. Then I see president Kay walk out of the room. I sit by him and he refuses to meet my gaze.

He whispers in my ear, "they tried to trick me into being in love with Zoe. Just go with it. I can fake it... I love you, Troye."

I nod. Zoe doesn't say a word to Alfie. I wonder what's been happening to them.

The scientists bring us lunch and we eat solemnly, all fighting our own battles alone. I thought a day with my friends would be so nice but things have changed between us, you can feel it in the atmosphere.

David takes me back to my 'cell', making me the first to leave.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Yes" I keep my eyes locked on the floor.

"How did you fall in love with Tyler?"

"That's sort of personal.. why do you need to know?"

"My bad. I shouldn't have asked."

I don't feel like saying anything so I don't. I slunk to the floor against the wall, in my usual position.

They trick Tyler into thinking he's not gay and he fakes it? He's in love with me but he has to hide it. David asks personal questions. Does he want to get to know me or is it secretly for the president? I force myself to sleep before things get too complicated.

The next day, David tells me we're going for a walk.

We walk along a path as he asks me questions about where I was from. Just random information. He also tells me he's an artist and he's gay (whatever that's supposed to stand for?), he says he sees the world like it's a gift. I like that.

"I'm sorry you have to go through any of this bullshit with Kay."

"Oh.. well, it'd be worse if you hadn't broken the rules for me. You're on my side. Total act of defiance."

"Yeah" he smiles, pleased with my response.

He looks at me with those hazel brown eyes (short a/n if I mentioned that his eyes were a color other than brown, do not fucking correct me. His eyes are hazel Brown k thanks bye) for a long time. His eyes were almost mesmerizing and I mimicked his stare. I felt something inside me. A beautiful feeling. He broke our eye contact by running a hand through his black hair, and we walked back.

When we got back to my cell, I was nervous. I don't know why. But I am. I wipe my hands on my jeans and take a deep breath. David walks across the cell to be closer to me. Then he does something I never could've expected.

  TYLER'S POV

Scientist #1 tells me to hang out in compartment D to be with my friends. I walk to the room where I'll see my friends and was disappointed when nobody but the president Kay was there.

"Hey straight boy!" He mocked. I pretended to be confused by his comment, playing all the right cards.

I sit down on a wooden chair. Zoe walks in minutes later without Alfie, which makes me wonder.

I wave and although she sees it, she ignores it. Alfie steps in about ten minutes later.

"I'm sorry" I say.

"It's not your fault" Alfie tells me.

I mumble something that's barely audible.

Troye walks in and my heart starts racing. He starts to run toward me and I shake my head, seeing as President Kay is still in the room. He walks out, as Troye sits next to me.

"they tried to trick me into being in love with Zoe. Just go with it. I can fake it... I love you, Troye." I whisper to him. 

He doesn't say it back, but I know he feels it, it's all over his face.

None of us says a word afterwards. Eventually, Troye leaves and then I leave. Hunter (scientist #1) asks me how I feel about Zoe once we get to my cage, the metal walls getting dreary.

"She's beautiful. I love her." I make myself lie. Although she is a beautiful person, I'm not in love with her. I can't believe I managed to even say those words.
