Love lots, -AV
Date number two came and went. It was just a trip to the mall to explore and grab a bite in the food court. Mitch and Kirstin were of course creeping around the corner as they did on all Scott's dates.
Date number three...four...five...six. All of which ended with a quick peck on the lips much to Scott's delight. He liked kissing, and he liked kissing Alex.
Date seven was to be the deciding factor as to whether he would be able to continue this relationship. He had planned to meet Alex for coffee and tell him about his disorders. He was scared. But of course Mitch was in the booth right behind him.
Alex entered looking handsome as ever. Scott was still amazed that the boy wanted to date him of all people. Alex could have easily had anyone, male or female, in the whole school. He walked in and immediately found Scott in their favorite booth, he walked up and planted a kiss on Scott's cheek before walking to order their coffee. Scott blushed as he looked down at the new message that had just appeared on his phone.
MitchieMoo: Get it Scotty!!
Scott rolled his eyes but didn't reply immediately. Rather, he focused on the task at hand: telling his boyfriend that he had Asperger's, OCD, ADHD, and severe anxiety. That was enough to send his anxiety levels into a tailspin.
MitchieMoo: Breathe Scott You can do this babe! I'm right here if you need me
That helped Scott calm his breathing to a normal pace as Alex made his way over, two coffees and two muffins in hand.
"I got you chocolate chip, I know it's your favorite."
"Thanks."
Alex smiled and sat down across from Scott who took his muffin and coffee and began to nibble.
"Scotty? What's wrong you seem nervous or something. Did I do something wrong? Do you want a different muffin?"
"No Allie. It's not the muffin. It's great. Thanks for buying it. It's just I need to tell you something and I'm scared."
"Are you breaking up with me?"
"No! Oh God No! It's just there's somethings you don't know about me."
"Do you have like a 6th toe or something?"
Scott laughed, Alex's humor helped to calm him down even further.
"No. It's just I have anxiety... and OCD... and ADHD... and Asperger's Syndrome."
"Are any of those life threatening? Like are you gonna die?"
"No."
"Then why are you worried?"
"Because people think I'm weird when they find out."
"I thought you were weird before... but it's one of the things I like about you."
"So you're not going to run away?"
"Nope."
"Are you sure?"
"Absolutely positive. I would like to know more about it though. Like what is Ashburger's?"
"It's Asperger's. A-S-P-E-R-G-E-R. And it's a form of autism. Like I'm considered high functioning because my IQ is so high but my EQ is very low."
"EQ?"
"Emotional quotient. Like my ability to recognize emotion. It's gotten better over the years but sometimes, especially if it's a bad day, I can't tell the difference between happy or sad or scared."
"Do you have bad days often? I've never noticed."
"Not often anymore. I take medication and go to therapy. I haven't had a bad day since the first day of school."
"When you ran out of art?"
Scott nodded but didn't verbalize a response.
"Mitch said you had food poison..."
"Trying to save face for me. I had a panic attack because everyone was staring at me."
"Oh... I'm sorry..."
"Not your fault... just I wanted you to know because I feel comfortable around you."
"I'd hope you'd feel comfortable around your boyfriend."
Alex smiles again and reaches to grab Scott's had that's been fiddling with the wrapper on his half eaten muffin.
"I don't care about your medical history Scott. And if there's anything I can do to help let me know. Like if you were to have a panic attack what should I do?"
Scott took Alex through the steps of how to calm an anxious person. Telling him in the end it's probably better to just clear the area and call for Mitch. He explained that Mitch has a way of bringing him back up from an attack in record time.
Alex didn't particularly like that idea. Scott was his boyfriend, why did he need Mitch? The boys had told Alex about their brief fling during the summer and that it had ended on good terms with the two being close as ever. Still this rubbed Alex the wrong way. He was determined to make himself more apparent in Scott's life while simultaneously pushing Mitch out.
