Can't Love a She
~ Alec Lightwood ~
My heart is fluttering. Why did I do this, in front of everyone? All the high profile guests from the Clave are gawking at me as if I'm some kind of a freak show.
I can't bear it anymore. The hurt in the eyes of Lydia standing in her wedding dress, the stele still in her hand, gleaming with the touch of the Union Stone, which was just seconds away from drawing the rune on my hand, the rune which would have doomed me into an unhappy marriage of compromise, forever.
My mother's eyes burning with shame. My father's, a little baffled. Their son maligned their reputation by kissing a man in public.
Jace is looking at me with a expression of awe while Isabelle scrambles right down from the altar as fast as she can, wrapping me in a tight hug.
'You followed your heart, Alec.' she whispers, her eyes shining with pride.
I can't bear to look at Magnus, who is standing petrified, watching the family drama. His hands unmindfully move to his lips, lightly stroking them.
I feel the need to get out of there.
I am intercepted at the door by a pair of dark eyes belonging to a handsome face with heavily accessorized ears and a weird hairdo gazing into mine intently. I can't tolerate the intensity of those eyes anymore.
'Magnus, I don't think this is the best time,' I mumble, trying to drag away.
'Alexander, listen to me. I'm sorry for crashing-' he grips me tighter.
'What's done is done Magnus Bane. You can't change it.' I snap, snatching my hand.
He looks genuinely hurt as his hands fall to his sides. 'I was just-'
I don't hear the rest as I storm of down the corridors to my room and slam the door, locking it and draw a rune for extra protection.
I feel a tingling sensation on my back as if someone is watching me.
I whip around just in time as the stranger mutters an incantation and I feel a stinging pain knock the breath out of me as I collapse on the floor writhing.
He saunters up to me, his lips curling into a menacing laugh. Stepping over me, he drags his hands over my rune, which lights up in fire for the briefest second.
'Now your little demon spawn lover can't get in without becoming a fried egg!' he guffaws.
'Don't you dare -'
But my words are stuck in my throat as I feel my body rising by itself, my feet being wrenched apart as I lose control of myself and I'm walking out of my room into the balcony.
I struggle against the captor's spells but am entranced into climbing the ledge on top of the railings. I look down at death staring me in face right beneath and gulp.
'What do you want from me?'
'I mean business with your boyfriend. You're the pawn of our bargain.'
~ Magnus Bane ~
I pace the now empty hall back and forth. It's been thirty minutes since Alec has locked himself in.
It's been a century since any mortal or immortal has made me feel the way Alec does. I just couldn't let him marry under pressure and forego his life.
Five more minutes pass and I grow impatient. Privacy or no privacy, the eerie silence is creeping me out.
With a flick of my magic, the doors fade from view, momentarily paralyzing me. Alec is hanging precariously on the railings, one foot on it, the other dangling in mid air.
His eyes are glazed over.
'Alec, please don't do it. I'll go away from your life, forever.' I scream. 'You don't have to -'
I jump in through the door and suddenly feel the heat of fire. I sense magic around me - Warlock magic. The flames lick dangerously close to my body.
I cast a spell to douse the fire and make a dash for Alec when someone blocks my way.
' Ethan Goldene! What the -'
'Surprised mate?' he chuckles. 'You honestly didn't think I would've let you get away so easily.'
'Magnus' Alec's strained cry for help steels my heart.
'Let him go. What do you want?' I hiss.
'Revenge. You killed Edelline.' he spits.
'She broke the accords by attacking a mundane. The Shadowhunters of Paris killed her, not me.' I say, still trying to calculate a way to get Alec.
If I attack Ethan, Alec would go off the edge.
'You helped track her, Magnus.' his eyes are pools of hate. 'I've waited for almost a century and I knew someday, someone would mean more to you than life itself and I would enjoy making you see the demise of your love.'
He snaps his fingers and Alec sways dangerously.
'You want me, kill me. Leave him. He has no fault!' I scream.
'Lover for lover!' he clicks his tongue. I stealthily summon a dagger, poised for attack.
I know in an instance what I need to do for the relentless monster. The dagger hurls at his back. He's too late to react as it pierces his heart and I'm already channeling my energy, holding Alec afloat. I gently guide him onto the stable floor of the balcony, turning to the bleeding Warlock.
'I don't get my hands dirty by killing rats,' I say, as he flounders, his blood pooling on the floor.
With a wave of my hands, he's gone.
'Where's he gone?' Alec's raspy voice asks.
'To some gutter, not that I care,' I kneel beside him.
'I make you weak. You're throwing away your life.' he mumbles.
'You make me strong, Alexander. I wouldn't have fought, if not for you.' I argue.
'I'm sorry for everything,' he sighs.
'Hey, it's completely normal to be into a man. Don't let the world tell you otherwise. It's your life,' I hold his hand.
He nods, nuzzling closer.
'Is it an yes then?' I whisper, crashing my lips to his.
'Mmmhmm,' is all he says.
