{4} Son of the Sea God

***

I hadn't really talked to Percy a lot after the whole talk we had after the bathroom incident. I would see him around, but I would be busy so I didn't actually have time to even say something to him. Annabeth has been wanting me to train with her every single day and she's been going on and on about how she wants to go on a quest. Or about how she wants to ask Chiron... Again. This girl really can't take no for an answer. Yeah, she's totally my sister.

I was very surprised to hear from one of the Aphrodite girls that Percy had ended up beating Luke in sparring. At first, I thought it was just a rumor because the Aphrodite cabin usually started a lot of those to see drama happen. I ended up asking Luke about it and it turns out that what they said was true. I was so surprised that I didn't even know what to say. Luke was one of the best swordsmen in camp and he was defeated by a newbie?

A day or two had passed and the day had finally come. The day Annabeth and I have been waiting for. Capture the Flag was now in session. Capture the Flag was one of mine and Annabeth's favorite camp activities. We would usually work together to make plans for what we could do. Some worked perfectly well and some were okay. They need a little tweaking.

Annabeth, myself, and a few of our siblings carried in our silk gray banner into the pavilion. People around us cheered and I was happy. Then Clarisse and her siblings ran out with their torn red banner. We were going to beat them in this game. I know it. Besides, we got water boy on our side. After a little while, Chiron hammered his hoof on marble, "Heroes! You know the rules," I glared over at Clarisse. If anyone liked to play dirty, it was her. "The creek is the boundary line. The entire forest is fair game. All magic items are allowed. The banner must be prominently displayed, and have no more than two guards. Prisoners may be disarmed, but may not be bound or gagged. No killing or maiming is allowed. I will serve as referee and battlefield medic. Arm yourselves!"

Chiron spread his hands and the tables were now covered in the equipment that we would need. There were a variety of helmets, bronze swords, spears, and oxhide shields that were coated in metal. Everyone went around getting all of the items that they thought they would need. When I was done, I went over to Annabeth and we discussed the plan silently one more time. Once we were sure, Annabeth called out,  "Blue team, forward!" The team cheered and followed us down the path as we headed north.

Percy ran up to Annabeth and me, "Hey."

Annabeth kept marching, but I said, "Hi."

Percy started to get a little awkward because of not getting a response from Annabeth, "So what's the plan? Got any magic items you can loan me?"

Annabeth's hand went towards her pocket like Percy had stolen something, "Just watch Clarisse's spear."

I leaned forward so he could see me better, "You do not want to get hit with that, trust me. That thing will make you feel like you're dead." I shivered as I remember my encounter with it. There was one time when we were both mad at each other and decided to fight. We said no weapons, but she ended up bringing her spear and I ended up in the infirmary.

"Other than that, don't worry," Annabeth told him. "We'll take the banner from Ares. Has Luke given you your job?"

"Border patrol, whatever that means," Percy replied.

"It's easy," Annabeth assured him. "Stand by the creek, keep the reds away. Leave the rest to us. Athena always has a plan." Annabeth pushed ahead of Percy and me.

Percy looked a little nervous so I put my hand on his shoulder and decided to make him feel a little bit better, "Just don't worry about it. Also, try not to get injured too badly." I didn't say that I would be ultimately encouraging. I picked up my pace as I went back to my place beside Annabeth. We waited until we heard the very familiar sound of a conch horn. Everyone around us whooped and yelled.  The game had started...

Annabeth and I had made a plan that she would use the invisibility cap to watch Percy and step in if she needed to after she had taken down some of the other team. My part in the plan was to stand a little ways away from them to make sure no one came in. Clarisse had shown up which was what we were hoping for. In the end, we ended up winning and I ran out to where Annabeth and Percy were.

When I got there, I could see Annabeth and Percy talking. I rushed over to them and came to a stop in front of them. The first person I heard speak was Percy, "A plan to get me pulverized."

"I came as fast as I could. I was about to jump in, but..." Annabeth shrugged like it didn't mean much, "You didn't need help." Annabeth's gaze moved to Percy's arm. I looked at it as well to see the white scar was slowly fading away.

I watched with confusion, "What the-"

Annabeth cut me off by asking Percy, "How did you do that?"

"Sword cut," Percy said plainly. "What do you think?"

I shook my head, "It apparently isn't a sword cut anymore," Percy looked at me in confusion. I motioned to his arm, "Look."

Percy looked at his arm just in time to see the scar disappear completely. He seemed even more confused than he was before, "I-I don't get it." How did he do that and not know how he did it? I just don't get him.

Annabeth seemed to have an idea though, "Step out of the water, Percy."

"What-"

"Just do it," Annabeth told him. Percy hesitantly did what she said and he suddenly looked pale. He was about to fall over, but I rushed over and caught him before he could fall face first. "Oh, Styx," Annabeth cursed, "This is not good. I didn't want... I assumed it would be Zeus..."

Before any of us could speak anymore, we heard a growl. It seemed to be very close to us too. The growl turned into a full-blown howl. The campers stopped cheering and I could hear Chiron calling out to the campers in Greek. Annabeth and I drew our swords. We stood ready to face whatever came out of the forest.

That's when I noticed it. On the rocks above us was a hell hound. But how did it even get past the camp border? It could only get in if someone allowed it in or if the border broke. I don't think the border could've broken through. Someone let it in then. But who? Annabeth moved in front of Percy, "Percy, run!" The hound leaped over Annabeth and I tried to run forward to kill it. Me, being the clumsy person I am, ended up tripping.

I looked up in enough time to see the hell hound scratch Percy across the chest. The hell hound was shot with arrows and it fell to the ground, dead. I stood up and looked at Percy in shock. I don't see how he's still standing. Chiron came towards us with his bow in his hands and a grim expression on his face.

I ran over to Percy and put a hand on his shoulder, "Are you okay?" The hell hound had obviously scratched him. Was it bad? I don't know. I'm trying to find that out. Percy said nothing, he seemed to be in shock which is understandable.

"Di immortales!" Annabeth said. "That's a hell hound from the Fields of Punishment. They don't... They're not supposed to..."

Chiron confirmed my earlier suspicions, "Someone summoned it. Someone inside the camp." It was eerily silent. No one said a word. Luke came over to the scene.

Of course, Clarisse had to open her big, fat mouth, "It's all Percy's fault! Percy summoned it!"

Chiron instantly shut her down, "Be quiet, child." The hellhound slowly melted into the shadows until it was completely gone.

Annabeth broke the silence, "You're wounded," She said to Percy. "Quick, Percy, get in the water."

I looked over at my sister in confusion, "Why? What's water gonna do?" Annabeth didn't answer.

"I'm okay." Percy lied.

I gave him an eye roll, "You're okay? You just got scratched across the chest by a hell hound. You're not okay."

"Chiron watch this." Annabeth continued. Percy didn't seem to argue anymore so he did as she said. He walked in the water and he started to look a little better. Everyone was in complete shock. Some campers gasped at the sight of his wounds disappearing into nothingness. Or so I thought. Everyone wasn't looking at his nonexistent wounds, but at the top of his head. I looked up as well and slapped my hand over my mouth. He had been claimed by Poseidon. Suddenly, everything seemed to make a lot more sense. The bathroom incident, the water healing him. I don't see how I didn't notice it before.

Percy panicked at our shocked faces, "Look, I-I don't know why. I'm sorry..."

I stopped him, "Um... Percy," He looked over at me, "You might wanna-" I cut myself off not able to get the words out. I pointed at the top of his head to the trident. He looked up just as the sign started to fade away.

"Your father," Annabeth murmured, "This is really not good."

"It is determined," Chiron announced. Campers around us started kneeling, but I couldn't move. I was still frozen in shock. I don't why I was so shocked. It made sense after everything that happened. But I still couldn't seem to shake away the shock.

Percy looked bewildered, "My father?"

"Poseiden," Chiron started, "Earthshaker, Stormbringer, Father of Horses. Hail, Perseus Jackson, Son of the Sea God."
