Chapter 2
The next few days, Cortney spent it with her friends and family as much as possible. She also spent it packing for the new school. The words from her parent's letter have stuck to her mind. ' We don't want her anymore '. Today Cortney was breaking the news to her friends about England.
" You are going to a boarding school in England? " Jordan asked, looking sad. She nodded.
" I'm going to miss you so much," Rosemary said looking at her with teary blue eyes. A few days later she broke the news about adoption to them. They sitting on swings at their elementary ( primary school ). Bikes leaned against poles.
"It's their loss!! " Brice suddenly shouted after a minute of silence. "It's their loss!! They missed out on a good friend ".
" Thanks, Brice," Cortney said smiling at him.
" If someone picks on you for it, you could say: your parents are stuck with you, mine chose me," Brice added. Cortney laughed. The next day Cortney was in her room putting in her tennis shoes. There was a heavy knock at the front door. Her mom went to go open it, she was met to face with a big tall bushy beard and hair man. He must've been at least 10 feet tall, maybe even taller !! He carried a pink umbrella with him.
" Hello my name is Rubeus Hagrid, is Cortney ready ? " the man asked. Everyone came to the door including Cortney.
" Do you 'ave your stuff with you? " Hagrid asked looking at Cortney. She nodded and went to go get it.
" Write us," the twins pleaded, helping her.
" Of course," Cortney said as they walked back to the front with her stuff.
" Why do you have to go ?," Tristen asked grabbing her hand.
" I don't really know Little T, I wish I could stay," Cortney said looking at him. Her dad handed her a bag.
" Your drum sticks are in here," He whispered into her ear.
" Thanks, Daddy," Cortney said giving him a small smile. She gave everyone a hug, the tightest hug ever. Last she hugged her mom.
" What if I don't really want to go to Hogwarts? " Cortney asked.
" Think of it as an adventure," her mom said smiling. She grabbed her stuff and with her last goodbyes, she left with Hagrid.

Cortney was now in England and was walking through a pub with Hagrid. He got a room for her since she would be staying here till school started. There were people everywhere.
" Hello Hagrid," the bartender greeted. " Here for a drink? "
" Not today, I'm helping a young witch prepare for her first year at Hogwarts," Hagrid said. The bartender looked over the counter and saw the little girl. His smile drop, she looked a lot like Bellatrix Lestrange.
" Is that the Lestranges child? " Tom asked. The place got extremely uncomfortable for Cortney. It got quiet really fast, and they all looked at her. People began whispering. Some thought she couldn't hear them, but she could.
" I never knew what happened to her," a woman's voice said.
" Doesn't matter, she is probably growing up to be like her mother, cruel and a Death Eater," a man sneered.
" Jeff! She probably put into adoption! She probably never met her actual parents! " A woman hissed. ' We didn't want her anymore ' crossed Cortney's mind, this made her feel down.
" Adopted or not! She going to develop a cold heart and become cruel !! Ending in Azkaban! " Jeff argued.
" What's Azkaban? " Cortney asked in a small voice.
"It's a place for-never mind, lets go get your stuff," Hagrid said. They left the bar to be met with a brick wall. He tapped the bricks in a certain pattern. Cortney couldn't believe what was happening in front of her eyes. The bricks moved !! It revealed many people, walking from shop to shop buying things. There were also many young people who like her stuff getting stuff for Hogwarts.
" Welcome to Diagon Alley," Hagrid said as they walked in.
"It's magnificent," Cortney breathed. Her eyes sparkled at everything, she was so fascinated. ' This is definitely my imagination ' Cortney thought to herself. They walked past an animal store, owls sat at the front looking at everyone that passed. There were a bunch of people crowded around a window, talking about the Nimbus 2000. The fastest broom in the world.
" Hagrid, why would someone bring a broomstick to school? Don't they supply them there? " Cortney asked looking up at him.
" Yes, broomsticks are used for flying, and a game called Quidditch," Hagrid answered.
" So we're not going to be mastering the art of sweeping? " She asked. Hagrid laughed. They walked into a big tall white marble building. GRINGOTTS was carved into it. As they walked down the long hall, Cortney noticed these creatures sitting at desks, counting coins.
" Goblins," Hagrid answered. " Clever as they come goblins, but not the most friendliest beast. Best to stay close. They stopped at the front. Hagrid cleared his throat causing the Goblin lookup.
" Ms. Cortney Lestrange wishes to make a withdraw," Hagrid said confidently. The Goblin looked over at the small frightened girl.
" And does Ms. Lestrange have her key ?" The goblin asked. Hagrid began digging around in his pocket pulling out a small key. Another Goblin led them to a cart, to take to the vaults. The ride was very jerky, Hagrid didn't like it, he didn't speak at all. Cortney on the other hand stuck her head out the side like a dog. She liked the feeling of the wind blowing through her hair violently. The cart stopped, the three got out.
" Key please," the goblin asked in a small voice. Hagrid handed him the key. The goblin opened the door revealing golds and silvers. Cortney gathered what she needed and they left. Hagrid and Cortney were back on the streets, she managed to get her robes and supplies. All that was left was a wand and a pet.
" Hagrid, what kind of pet did you want? " Cortney asked.
" Personally, I've always wanted a dragon," Hagrid answered.
" So they are real! " Cortney gasped.
" As real as wizards and witches," Hagrid answered. Cortney smiled at Hagrid as she walked into the pet shop. All the animals fascinated her, but none of them stuck out. Finally, she came across an owl, not too big or too small. The owl had a white chest with black dots all over it. The rest of the body was brown. She had little black beady eyes. Cortney happily paid for the cute owl.
" Thank you! " Cortney said as she left meeting up with Hagrid.
" Pretty bird, name? " Hagrid asked.
" Thank you, and I haven't thought of one yet," Cortney said smiling.
" Think about it, but for now go get your wand. At Ollivanders no place better," Hagrid laughed. Cortney nodded and handed him the cage before heading off to the wand shop. When she entered it was dark and empty.
" Hello," Cortney said in a small voice. There was a sliding sound and then a click. A elder man suddenly appeared scaring Cortney. It scared Cortney so bad that she ran out of the building. She opened the door and stuck her head in.
" Come in Ms. Lestrange, I don't bite," the shop owner said. As he looked for a box, Cortney quietly closed the door and walked in.
" Seems only yesterday, your mother and father were in here buying their first wand, except they didn't run out. They weren't the nicest people ". He handed her a wand. Cortney gave it a small wave. A few boxes fell off the shelves.
" I am so sorry! " Cortney panicked.
" That is the beauty of it Ms. Lestrange, the wand chooses the witch, and that wasn't for you," He explained. A few wands later, Cortbey found the one. When she gave it a wave, she felt warmth in her body as a light breeze blew past her.
" Thank you! " Cortney chimed as she paid for the wand and left. Hagrid handed her the cage and they began walking back to the place where they began. As they walked Cortney went into deep thought.
" Hagrid, can I ask you a question," Cortney suddenly said.
" Of course," Hagrid huffed.
" Was my mom..really...sick ?," She asked softly.
" No, but she wasn't the nicest witch, same goes with your father," he answered. Tears built up in her eyes.
" Then why didn't they want me anymore? Did they stop loving me? Was I really too much to work to care for? " Cortney asked as a single tear rolled down her face.
" Those answers will be provided when your older, besides I don't think I am the right person to tell you," Hagrid said glancing at her. " Don't let it get to you. So far you have proved that you are nothing like them, I think you are going to grow up to be a pretty good witch, a nice one too".
" Thanks, Hagrid," Cortney sniffled wiping away her tears with a free hand. " I don't mind the adoption, they wanted me, cared for me, loved me. I still love them all the same ".
" That's good," Hagrid said nodding his head.
" Can I keep my last name as O'Donnell? " Cortney asked. He nodded as they stopped in front of the building.
" I have to leave to help another wizard like yourself. I will be back in a few days to make sure you get to Hogwarts," Hagrid said. Cortney nodded in understanding and with that he left. Over the past few days, Cortney ended up making friends with Tom and the regulars. Even Jeff! He still had his suspicion of her going evil. But she told him all about the muggle world as he taught her how to play chess.
