Her laugh. Her smile. She was his everything. He could still rememver the way her auburn hair seemed to glow in the sunlight and the way her smile could light up anyone's dark day. He could remember the sweet smell of honey mixed with lavender that caressed his nose when he leaned in to kiss her lips.
Then it came. The sickness that took away everything from her little by little, day by day. Her hair fell from her scalp in chunks and her smile became a rarity. She was strong the first few months, but he saw her giving up more and more. He begged and pleaded for her not to leave him but she couldn't fight it anymore.
He could still hear the haunting noise of the heart monitor flatlining as he held her in his arms, sobbing and wishing it were him instead.
All of this flashed before his eyes as he lay on the floor of the dark alley, looking up at the hooded person pointing a gun at him.
"Give me your wallet, dumbass, before I put a bullet through you!" The attacker said.
He fumbled around his pockets, looking for his wallet, when he realized he left it on his nightstand next to his prized picture of his true love.
Closing his eyes as he spoke, he said, "I-i don't have i-it. It's at ho-"
BANG!
The gun went off and pierced the man straight through his heart.
He may have been shot in the chest, but he'd died long before from a broken heart.
