The Dark Lord was not originally Shintaro's father - it was my sister who thought of the idea to give more backstory and depth to Shintaro (Brethren). 

After several attempts, my sister proposed the idea of The Dark Lord being Shintaro's father. I readily accepted the idea, and it's been kept up ever since. Several of my stories included childhood memories of Shintaro (Brethren) to give them angst.
