Chapter 1
Ever since grade school, Rose and Jacob have been the best of friends. You could say that they were inseparable. Things weren't always like that for them, though. Before they met, Rose was going through a pretty tough time. For you see, when she was in the third grade her parents got divorced and she was so distraught she didn't know what to do. She had no friends, felt like the divorce was all her fault, and her parents wouldn't stop arguing about who got what. She felt all alone, that is, until she met Jacob. Jacob made her feel special, like she mattered.
Jacob, on the other hand, was the complete opposite. He was also an only child, but his parents weren't divorced they were just extremely wealthy and he'd always use that to his advantage during school. That wasn't the case with Rose. Whenever Jacob saw her, he became speechless. He thought that she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen and he had seen quite a few.
Soon they were best friends and both knew they liked each other. It was as if they were meant to be. Boy, were they wrong. When they got to high school, they joined different clubs and met new friends, and slowly starting drifting apart. Jacob became the quarterback of the football team and Rose became the captain of the Mathletes. They would hang out sometimes after church or before youth group on Wednesdays. That was about the extent of their relationship going into their teen years.
The last day of Junior year, Rose and Jacob were on their way to youth group, when suddenly out jumped a man all dressed in black , a mask over his face and a gun pointing to their throats.
"Come with me," he said in an accented brisk tone, "or you shall never see your loved ones again."
Rose and Jacob reluctantly followed the man to wherever they were going.
Rose whispered to Jacob, "Where do you think he is going to take us?"
"I don't know," Jacob whispered back.
"No talkin'!" growled the man.
The man stopped in his tracks, he had heard something rustling in the bushes. As he walked over to investigate the sound, Rose and Jacob were plotting on how to escape the man.
"I think we should run since he is distracted at the moment," whispered Jacob.
"But wouldn't that be a bad problem," Rose whispered, "since he might turn around at any time now?"
"Yeah, I guess you are right," Jacob whispered back, "as usual."
Rose beamed because she was usually right and Jacob hated her for it.
The street they are on is called Lockhart lane. It is a quiet street that has a small park in between two little shops. They were right in front of the park now, when the man stopped to get a drink of water from the fountain.
"Excuse me, sir, but we are quite thirsty could we please get a drink of water?" Rose asked.
"No," snapped the man, "now quit yer yappin'!"
"Hey, Phil. I heard you could use some help with these two punks. I can take it from here."
"Okay, thanks Billy. I can't stand kids, they get on my nerves."
Billy was a tall man who also wore a mask like Phil. His voice seemed a little less threatening when he spoke.
"If you want to live follow me. Your lives are now in danger and you can't spend anymore of your time dilly-dallying."
"What do you mean?" Jacob could always be a little slow at things.
"All will be explained very soon, but right now is not the time to ask questions." He took both of their hands and handcuffed them to his own. He led them down an ally so thin that they could only go in single file. As Rose watched his gate she concluded that he was not as slow and clumsy as the man with a gun. He was instead very agile and strong; she could also tell by his tone of voice he was very intelligent.
"How can we trust you? We were just kidnapped by some random person." Rose interjected before he could pull them along any further.
"Because I am not pointing a gun at your throats."
"True."
"What you are about see shouldn't be too much a surprise since you see it all the time in the movies." Billy pressed a series of bricks that opened a door to a darkened room, that soon turned into a well lit room full of people talking on phones and typing on their computers at maximum speed.
"When you said that you see this all the time in the movies, I thought you meant we would see a secret spy center or something." Jacob obviously wasn't looking at the computers or listening to the conversations on the phones at Rose was doing.
"But this is a super secret spy center, of sorts. We are actually not really a spy center, we just work for the FBI. They have been requesting new recruits and we couldn't help thinking that teenagers would be the best choice for our situation. Ah, here we are. Jeremy would you please be so kind."
Out stepped a tall blonde with blues eyes and a head set. He was one of those guys that would set Rose's friends crazy for his biceps and abs. He took one look at Rose's long blonde hair, that was pulled in a tight ponytail, her blue green eyes, and he was smitten. Rose never really liked how boys were looking at her recently, but Jeremy was really really hot. Rose couldn't help but notice that Jacob had taken on an air of jealousy.
"Right, sorry. Um, the government has been having some problems with terrorist attacks and need the help of younger and faster people, or in other words you." Jeremy had composed himself so well that you wouldn't have guessed that he was just mooning over Rose two minutes ago.
"So you mean to say that we get to become spies?" Rose asked.
"Yeah, I guess you could say that," Jeremy replied to Rose's rhetorical question, "but the government just wants--"
"I think you have told them enough, Jeremy" said a man dressed in a military uniform.
"Guys, may I introduce you to General Hendrix. He is in charge of everything in this center. You want to have something done or have a special mission, you must go to him first." As Jeremy got done introducing General Hendrix, he noticed that Jacob had escaped the briefing and went to go look around.
As Jacob was looking around, he noticed that everyone there was really old.
"Why is everyone really old?" Jacob asked, "Especially that guy in the military uniform."
"That, Jacob is General Hendrix and he is in charge here," Rose replied in a bitter tone, "but I guess you wouldn't know that since you were off dilly-dallying."
"Geez, Rose way to stick a needle in my heart." Jacob said in a hurt tone.
"Guys, please come back to reality. We have important business to discuss." Jeremy told them "Right. Sorry Jeremy. General Hendrix why exactly do you want us? If you don't mind me asking." Rose inquired.
"I don't mind at all young lady. You are to eliminate Andrew Charleston, he has been terrorizing London. Now we don't usually interfere with other nations, but England has recently helped us capture another dangerous terrorist. You must first train before I send you off to Great Britain. Jeremy will lead you to the training grounds."
"Follow me, this way. Now I'll give you a tour of our HQ."
"What is HQ?" Jacob asked very stupidly.
"Head quarters, you rolling elephant turd!" Rose's annoyance was at its tops.
"Wow, language." Jacob said very unwisely.
"Come on Rose and rolling elephant turd." Jeremy motioned for them to follow.
"This is our main stream line, or in simpler words for rolling elephant turd, this is where all the written work is done." Jeremy motioned to all of the people talking on phones and typing madly on their computers.
"This is where you get all of the fancy equipment—DON'T TOUCH THAT JACOB!!"
"What? It's just a pen."
"That pen can kill a person in five seconds if used by a rolling elephant turd."
"Are you going to keep calling me that?"
"Pretty much. As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted by Mr. Touchy over there, this is where you get all of the fancy equipment for your missions."
"Are you going to accompany us on these missions? I don't think I can stand a whole day with this guy. The only reason we were walking together was because his parents feel better if he is babysat by a responsible person."
"Maybe, maybe not. I will only come if you want me to." Jeremy's gaze was fixed very intensely on Rose.
"I don't want you to show off your stupid moves." Jacob cried.
Jeremy's eye glint very mischievously before he quickly snaps his arms around Jacob into a choke hold.
"Your training starts now!
