You Can't Date Anyone!
-I really don't know either. But I like the photo-
-Dick is about 12 here and Barbra is 17 (keeping to my 'The Batman' age gap)-
Dick was lying on his back, legs in the air, on the couch when he heard the front door unlock.
"Hey Bruce!" He called out. No response. That was weird. Bruce always answered. Alfred sometimes answered, but he was already inside, in the kitchen. It couldn't be Babs, she didn't have a key! She just broke in through the window when she came over. "Bruce?" He got up, strolling into the foyer.
He froze.
There was Bruce, but he wasn't alone. At his side was a slick, handsome looking woman with sly features. She wore a form-hugging skirt, black pumps, and a black blouse. Dick thought she looked like a panther or something. An evil panther.
She turned to look at him under her hooded eyelids, glistened with cat-eye makeup.
Dick couldn't utter a sound. Something about this woman intimidated him. She felt the same way Bruce did when they first met: Glamorous and friendsly, but very secretive. Except he didn't trust this woman nearly as much as he did Bruce.
"Bruce, Who's this?" She purred, lowering herself to his height. He impulsively stepped back.
"Oh, this is my ward, Richard. Dick, this is a ...friend of mine."
She gave him a soft, lip-sticked smile. "It's nice to meet you, Richard." She extended a toned arm as if to shake his hand. Her manicured nails were long and sharp, like claws. Elegantly black claws.
Dick looked, wide eyed between the two, trying to keep his breathing steady. He did not like that she just came out of nowhere. Who was This?
"Dick." Bruce nodded his head at the woman's hand. Dick carefully extended his arm, shaking her hand a little. He could feel her claws pressing into his hard. It wasn't painful or anything... just a reminder that they were there. "Dick, what do we say?" Bruce reminded.
"It's nice to meet you." He said timidly.
"It's nice to meet you too, Richard." She repeated.
"It's... It's just Dick." He said shyly, feeling as though this corection could get his head sliced off.
"I'm sorry, Dick." She let go of his hand and stood up. "My name is Selina."
"Okay." He didn't know what to say. He looked at Bruce nervously for support.
Bruce was still looking at the two with an amused smirk. "Dick, we're going to go into the livingroom, if you want to get your things."
He was being kicked out.
Dick nodded, turning sharply on his heel and stumbling back in. DID BRUCE HAVE A GIRLFRIEND?
NO! Bruce couldn't have a girlfriend! HE COULDN'T! He did? What Would happen to Dick? What if Bruce's girlfriend didn't like him? Who would Bruce side with? Did you see how she reacted to seeing him? She hated him!
Dick feverishly grabbed his bookbag and headed back out the door. "It's all yours." He muttered.
"Thank you." He gently petted Dick's hair and lead Selina in, closing the door two thirds of the way.
Dick stood there, still stupified. He dropped his book bag. This was crazy! Bruce HAD A GIRLFRIEND? He tip toed to the door, listening intently, afraid of what he might hear.
"So," it was the woman. "when were you going to introduce me to that adorable little someone out there."
"I'm sorry, I thought he had mathletes today..." Bruce groaned. "I wouldn't have invited you over, if I'd known... sometimes things change when people meet him... I was just hoping we could get by without you two meeting."
Dick bit his lip. Very hard.
"No, no, he's... cute." She sounded so ambiguously between sarcasim and sincerity that He didn't know what to think.
"Well, thanks for not scaring him too much. Now, getting down to why I asked you here." Bruce paused. "Dick, you can go upstairs."
Dick practically jumped out of his skin. He'd been completely silent! How did bruce even know he was there? It didn't matter because he was currently booking it, full speed to the Foyer. He snatched up his backpack and ran into the kitchen. His eyes must have been like saucers.
"Master Richard, whatever has-"
"I'm going to Barbra's!"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Barbra Gordon was on the phone when the knocking started. It was fast, and angry. She might be seventeen, but her father had gone HARD on the stranger danger talks back in the day.
Then again... She was BAT-GIRL! She could at least...check? Besides, what idiot would try and rob the police comissioner's appartment while his daughter was home?
Keeping her conversation on the line, she krept to the appartment door and peered through the peephole. It was a preteen trying to kick her door in.
She sighed. "One moment, Beck, I think my takeout just arrived." She muted the phone and undid the latch. The kid stepped back apace as the door opened. "Suck off, Anklebiter, I'm on the phone!"
The slammed the door shut, but a foot blocked it's way. Next thing she knew, the whole kid had squeazed his way into the apartment.
"BRUCE HAS A GIRLFRIEND!"
Why couldn't it have just been a murderer?
She put the call back on. "Beck, I'm gonna have to call you back..." She hung up and stared at him, the kid was still babbling incoherently.
"And-and she was really tall-AND STRONG! And she has claws, and she scratched me! And then Bruce kicked my out of the downstairs and they were meeting in the living room. And she said I'm cute? But she was sarcastic! And Bruce said that I made girls less attracted to him? And then he yelled at me for listening to them-"
"Jesus! Slow down, you're not the Flash!" She watched him pant to catch his breath, hands on her hips. "Now let's start from the beginning... why are you in my house?"
Dick looked up. "You break in to the manor all the time."
"Yeah, I BREAK IN!I don't go around knocking on doors like I'm AJ Holmes!" She rolled her eyes tiredly. "What's all this crap about Bruce getting a girlfriend?"
"HE DID!" Dick gasped. "And she's EVIL!"
"Why?"
"She just... IS!"
"Is she hot?" She asked.
"I guess..." He felt flustered.
"is she nice?"
"NO! -I mean, she hasn't done anything yet..."
"Does Bruce like her?"
"He does... WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING?"
Barbra walked into the kitchenette and pulled a cola out of the fridge. She clicked it open. "So, it sounds like he's happy and he likes her."
"What? NO! She's evil!"
"Dick, listen, Let me give you some wisdom."
"Your wisdom sucks!" He pointed out.
"Shut up and listen to your elders!" She snapped. "I don't know if this girl actually sucks yet, but I do know that you sound jealous."
"What? Nonono! I'm not jealous of her, I just think that Bruce is making a big mistake being with her!"
She swigged the cola. "Why do you care?"
"Be-because I live with him!" Dick shouted. "He's my foster dad! I don't want him to make the wrong choice!"
"Okay..." she downed half the can and set it down. "I'm going to call Beck back to get back to the conversation we were having before you interupted, and you can get lost."
"NO! I can't go back to the manor now, she's there!"
She sighed. "Whatever. Put something on TV, I'm going into my room."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Pixie!" Barbra leaned in the doorway, holding her phone. "Alfie is calling, He wants you home for dinner."
Dick took the phone from her. "Hi? Alfred? Yeah, I'm okay. No, I'm fine. Can Barbra come?" She glared at him, angrily mouthing to him and drawing her hand across her throat. Dick nodded cheekily. "Yeah, she'd love that. Okay, we'll be there in an hour." He ended the call and smirked at her. "You're welcome."
"Jerk!" She snatched her phone back. "What if I have a date?"
"Do you?"
"...no."
"Exactly!" He exclaimed. "Come on! She'll be there! You can be there ans see that she's evil!"
"Dick, no." She sighed. "I'm not a part of your little plot to make your dad spend time with you."
Dick scowled. "We'll you're gonna! This girl could be a threat!"
She sighed. "I'll tag along, but just for Alfred's food."
"YES! You'll see! She's hiding something, and I'm gonna find out what!"
