Teargas, and on How it Impacts Young Birds
-request by @WallyandDick . Requests always open-
-I went to a thrift store and bought the first season of Teen Titans, I love it so much. I want to buy the other 4 just cause.-
"Fuck." Roy stated.
Dick looked up at his (essentially) big brother. "What?"
"D'you see those holes? Those are so they can attack us from inside the building." Roy stated. "GO- Go, start giving out the gas masks and if you hear them shooting, drop to the ground." The redhead nudged him. "Go, tell everyone!"
They separated, reaching into their bags and yanking out gasmasks, thrusting them towards unprepared citizens. "They're gonna gas us. They're gonna throw teargas! If you hear shooting, drop to the ground! Rubber bullets are dangerous at this dist-"
There were several loud clanks and smoke began filling the air. People let out cries of shock, and began dropping to the ground, coving their mouths and eyes.
"Robin!" Conner barrelled into him. "They're gassing us-"
"I know!" Dick shouted over the noise. "Help me hand these out masks!" He shoved a handful at the clone, and stumbled through the crowds. His eyes began to sting and burn through his mask, it felt like someone had squeezed tabasco inside his eyelids. His nostrils stung like he had a nosebleed. Dick forced on a mask and kept tripping through the crowds, shoving masks at people.
He tripped, catching himself, inches from the ground. He blindly threw masks around him, hoping people would catch them.
"Rob!" He felt someone pull him off the ground. It was Wally, clasping a wet t-shirt over his mouth and nose. he pulled it away briefly to talk. "Let's-" Wally immediately burst into a bitter coughing fit.
With the little comprehension he had, Dick tore off his gasmask, slapping it over Wally's face. "Put it ON! PUT IT O-" He choked as gas filled his lungs, burning him. His eyes were gushing, trying to flush out the fierce chemical burns. Kicking in pain, he felt someone pick him up, dragging him away.
He heard a shout: "They're coming out! They're storming us!"
Dick kicked harder, trying to get Wally to put him down, He had to go help them. "Not Today!" Wally shouted through his mask, Pulling Dick into the bioship. "ROY! We're here! GO! GO!"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"can you see?"
Dick stumbled a little, hands out in front of him. It was bad enough that Wally had to help him shower and put on clothes, because he couldn't do it himself, but this day just kept getting worse. "I can basically only see colour. Everything to so blurry..." He sniffled a little, his nose and eyes had been running like crazy, no matter how may times he rinsed them.
"Fuck, this is all my fault." Roy groaned. "I shouldn't have taken you out, you guys are too young for that!"
"It's not your fault, we wanted to go protest." Conner stated. Out of the six, he and M'gann were the least harmed; he was Kryptonian, and She didn't need air to survive.
"Robin, how are you feeling?" The martian cooed, getting up, and helping Wally bring him in.
"Not good." He rasped, trying to keep some composure.
"Here, let's sit down." Wally collapsed onto the floor, pulling Dick down with him.
Across the room, Kaldur was leaning over into a bucket of saltwater. The Smoke had seriously messed with his fragile lungs, and right now, he could only breath water, so he wasn't chatting too much. Next to him, Artemis was in sweatpants and a sports bra, trying to washout her long hair. "Eugh, M'gann, help me get this out of my hair."
"Coming, What do you need."
Almost immediately someone's phone went off, chiming S.O.S by abba. "Fuck, that's Ollie calling." Artemis groaned. "DON'T ANSWER- OW, M'gann!"
"Sorry!"
"Ah Shit, Dianah's calling me now." Roy groaned. "No one pick up, we weren't supposed to be at that protest! Rob, did you lock the zetabeams?"
"He, uh, walked me through it." Wally mumbled, declining a call from his uncle. The league must have seen them at the protest, and if they did, the whole team (and Roy) was fucked. "Rob, d'you want me to turn your phone off?"
Dick nodded a little, he was lying down now, head on Wally's lap. Wally was petting his damp, brittle hair gently. "Dad's going to kill me."
"No, he's not." Wally assured.
"Yeah, he is." Dick croaked. "He keeps saying: 'you can't go to protests!', and 'you're too young for riots, you're gonna get hurt'!" Dick's voice was raw: a husky ramble, just above a whisper.
"Your dad won't know, you went as Robin... unless your dad knows you're Robin." M'gann replied.
"Bats might tell his dad." Wally covered. "Okay, calm down, Rob."
"He's gonna be so mad!" Dick whimpered, he felt overly-emotional.
"Calm down, you're still a bit freaked from earlier." Roy assured. "God, I shouldn't have taken you guys! You could've been shot!"
"I was shot." Conner said casually. He reached into his pocket, pulling out a bullet shell.
Roy glanced at the shell in horror. "That's not a rubber bullet, that's a semi automatic. Where'd it hit you?"
"About here?" Conner pointed to the burned bullet hole in his shirt, right over his heart.
"HOLY SHIT!" The archer exclaimed. "If you were human, you'd be dead! This is a huge legal point! We're trustworthy witnesses, we could use that in court!"
Dick cuddled against Wally's chest. "We're dead, bats is gonna kill us, and I'm still so blind that you all are just beige blobs!"
"Hey, on the Brightside, if bats is so pissed at you, you can't him any more mad! Let's finally get you those blue highlights."
"Blue highlights aren't cool unless I can see them." Dick frowned.
"Well, I'd be able to see them, and isn't that why you exist?"
"To be objectified?"
"So I can admire you." Wally dried Dick's watery eyes with the wrist of his sweatshirt. "Let me at least try to be sentimental!"
There was a loud, long, five second, beep over the PA system, shocking them. they were even more shocked when it proceeded to call out the arrival of their den mother.
"WHAT? Rob, I thought you locked them out!" Roy hissed.
"I talked Wally through it! Can't see, remember?"
Wally whimpered as he heard footsteps in the hall. "We are all SO dead."
Dinah put her hands on her hips. "What happened? The Zetabeams were locked down, the cameras were offline, and the League has been trying to contact you for an hour!" She saw the scene before her: Kaldur looking very sick, submerged in water, The girls furiously washing Artemis' hair, Conner with bullet holes in his shirt, and Robin was lying on Wally's lap, tears spilling out under his glasses. "ROY HARPER, Don't Tell Me You Didn't Get Them Out Of There In Time!" She spat, making Roy wince.
"Black Canary?" Dick squinted.
"Robin, are you alright?"
He nodded a little, and Wally answered for him. "Robin got caught mask-less next to a teargas canister..."
She nodded, understandingly, helping dry the boys face a little. "We saw what happened in downtown Star City." She glared at Roy. "I thought if you were breaking rules by taking them there, you would at least have the decency to get them out of there before they started attacking."
"Please don't tell Batman, I wasn't supposed to be there." Dick begged, blindly flailing to get up.
"Batman knows, he' retrieving supplies to help you all recover. But Robin, when he arrives, you should probably get ready to..."
"To go home." He finished. "Knowing bats, I'll probably have to stay there for a while."
She smiled a little. "He just wants to keep you safe." She whispered.
"He can keep me safe by not making me sneak out to go to protests." Dick pouted.
She patted down his hair, lovingly. "If you're alright with Wally, I think Roy and I need to have a chat."
You could see the life drain from Roy's eyes as he was yanked from the room. He was about to get the berating of a lifetime.
