Chapter 4

8th January, 2252.
Manhattan, New York.
3rd person POV

"Hey Sam. Wake up..."

Sam felt someone repeatedly poking her face, so she opened her eyes. It took a while for her eyes to get used to the dark, but once it did, she clearly saw her a girl who looked exactly like her, standing in front of her. She wore a simple blue nightgown dress and blue bunny slippers.

"Ruby. We've been over this. What's Rule 13 of our Sister Roomating Agreement?" Sam said, a bit annoyed that her twin sister was waking her in the middle of the night.

"First of all, 'Roomating' isn't a word. Second, the only official document  that we have were two papers stapled together." Ruby rolled her eyes.

"It's the thought that counts." Sam quipped. "Anyway, why are you waking me up in the middle of the night?"

Ruby snapped on the lamp that was on the desk near Sam's bed. Her face was a bit red and she twirled her thumbs repeatedly.

"I...uh...had a dream. Well more like a nightmare..." She said. Sam raised an eyebrow.

What did Ruby having a nightmare have to do with her? "And you're telling me this why?"

"Cause...I was wondering...if you could tuck me in?" She said, hopefully.

Was she for real? Sam rolled her eyes. Ruby had to be joking. Yet her face looked so scared. Whatever it was, she clearly didn't wanna talk about it, but at the same time, she wanted to put it behind her.

"Really? You want me to tuck you in? What're you, 5?"

"Sam please." She pleaded. Her voice sounded a bit strained. The faster Ruby fell asleep, the sooner Sam could get back to hers.

"My body's still asleep. And your bed is on the other side of the room. Guess I can't tuck you in, now can I?" Sam smiled at her quick thinking inwardly.

Ruby narrowed her eyes at her. Sam knew she had another plan behind all of this. "Then let me sleep with you."

The way she said it had completely woken Sam up. She could feel her cheeks heating up with each passing minute. "What?!"

Ruby was a bit confused by why her sister was overreacting by her comment. Sam had forgotten that Ruby was innocent and sweet, while she was perverted and downright dirty at times. So Ruby didn't understand the second meaning behind what she said.

"Keep your voice down! Mom and Dad are sleeping too, you know!" Ruby whispered.

Sam rolled her eyes. "There you go. Ask Mom or Dad to do it for you. Problem solved!"

"Yes, but you're already up." Ruby pointed out.

Sam pulled at her long brown silk hair a bit before trusting herself to speak without cursing. "You woke me up!"

Ruby snorted at her sister's antics. But they both knew who had won that argument. Sam scooted over and uncovered herself from the blanket, which she was snuggling in. She wore a plain red jersey with a black leggings.

Sam sighed. "Get in."

Ruby smiled and climbed onto her sister's bed. "Thank you!" Ruby turned and gave Sam a totally sisterly kiss on the cheek.

Sam felt it warm her right down to her toes. "Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm the greatest sis in the world. Yadda, yadda, yadda. Can we sleep now?"

"Sure. Goodnight again, Sam."

Sam let out a small breath and tried to go to sleep. But her brain refused to let her. For the past few months, ever since they moved from Nevada, Sam had found out something about herself that scared her. She had a crush on her sister!

She always thought that she was a little too clingy to her sister. She'd beat up boys and girls whenever they harassed Ruby back in elementary and middle schools. They always teased her because she was so innocent; always doing the right thing, helping teachers and anyone whenever she could, reading a lot. Ruby never got into fights. She always did her homework. She was respectful, kind, honest, trustworthy, caring, neat and organized... she was popular. Among the nerds and the geeks and even the janitors and teachers. But to the kids, she was 'Ms Goody Two Shoes' and 'Teacher's Precious Pet'.

Sam, on the other hand, was the complete opposite of her twin sister. She was popular as well, but as the 'Troublemaker'. A teacher even called her a devil from hell once. She had skipped classes constantly, hanging out with the cool kids in the back of the school, getting sent to the principal's office, etc. She was adored by all the kids, except the big kids who tried to bully her and her crew, and hated amongst the teachers. She used to completely ignore Ruby, at school, in the streets and even at home. It wasn't good for her social ranking.

But all that changed in middle school, in 6th grade, when some kid thought it was funny to steal Ruby's lunch money and spill all the stuff in her bookbag on the floor. Sam might've been halfway across the school, but as soon as she heard Ruby in trouble: BAM! She kicked a lot of asses that day. And got expelled but it was worth it.

So in the end, her parents decided to move to Manhattan and live. New place, fresh start. But Sam was trying her best to stay away from Ruby. Because one day, her secret incest love for her sister might get out. And she couldn't have that.

Sam waited for an hour before her eyes finally decided to droop and close. But at the worst time possible, Ruby rolls over and snuggles into Sam's chest. Fuck sleep, she thought while blushing darkly. All nighter it was.
