Chapter Five
(A/n- the song I used is 'They Say It's Wonderful', because I needed a song for you to sing. I tweaked the lyrics a little. I don't own the song btw.)
~A Month Later~
When you wake up from a peaceful sleep, Diaval is gone, and he isn't on the the windowsill either. He was right beside you last night, but he must have left. Frowning, you get up and complete your normal morning routine.
"Good morning Y/n!" Flittle greets as she walks in.
"Good morning auntie!" You reply, smiling. Your other adopted aunts greet you with smiles as well. Aurora greets you too, before giggling and walking out.
"Where are you going?!" You call after her, chasing her out of the cottage.
She shrugs, grinning wildly, "Just for a stroll."
"A stroll, hmm? Then you won't mind me coming along?" You ask with raised eyebrows.
Her face goes blank for a moment as she tries to decide how to respond.
"No, I don't mind," She replies eventually, and you glance at her with suspicion.
She just smiles sweetly at you, and you sigh in defeat and walk with her. You walk down a familiar path, because you've been through every inch of this place.
"So, have you seen Fairy Godmother recently?" She asks.
Shaking your head you reply, "No, I haven't. Have you?"
"Yes, I saw her the other day. She introduced me to her friend."
"Her friend?" You question, puzzled.
She smiles brightly, "Yes, Pretty Bird!"
You frown, "Who??? Oh- you mean Diaval?"
"Yes, that's what he calls himself. How did you know?"
"Well, I've met him before. Ma-Fairy Godmother introduced us when I was fifteen."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"You weren't old enough then, but you are now."
You continue chatting with her for a long while before you decide it's time to go back home.
"Aurora, we've been out forever! We should go back now."
"No, I have to show you something first!!!" She grabs my arm and drags me to the wall of thorns.
"Why are we here?" You ask curiously.
"Follow me," she whispers, dragging you through a narrow gap in the wall.
When you arrive on the Moor side of the thorns, she tells you to close your eyes.
"Why?"
"Please, just do it." She begs, and you comply, screwing your eyes shut.
She leads you somewhere, and you follow, trying to not trip over the sometimes uneven ground. You can smell the scent of fresh flowers, and hear the sound of a distant stream. She brings you over to a spot and positions you a certain way. It takes all your self-control to not peek from between your lashes, but you manage to not look.
"What's happening?" You ask, a chuckle on your lips.
At no answer, you open your eyes.
You stand in a dark part of the forest, a place you've never been before. The scenery is nothing scary, but the apparent absence of light is unnerving, and reminds you of Aurora's christening. Eerie sounds float across the small clearing, making you hold your breath.
"Aurora, where'd you go?" You whisper into the darkness.
"SURPRISE!" A bunch of voices yell from behind you, and you shriek in fear, swivelling around.
"AHHH!" You yell, before seeing who it is.
"Relax Y/n, it's just us!" Diaval shouts over your scream.
You break off the scream and sigh in relief, "What're you guys doing scaring me to death?!"
"We didn't think we'd scare you that much!" Diaval chuckles.
Maleficent even cracks a grin.
"Honestly, what's this about?" You ask again.
They smile at you, and Aurora hugs you, "It's your birthday, silly!"
"Ohhhh, it is! I completely forgot! Now it all makes sense."
"Since you haven't had a birthday party before, we decided to throw you one!" Aurora chirps happily.
"You guys really didn't have too," You say, but grin nonetheless.
"Nonsense, it is a time for celebration," Maleficent smiles.
Diaval shows you the (f/c) flowers that decorate another small clearing. You can't contain your joy, they smell so great, and a gentle breeze makes the flower petals fall.
"This is magnificent," You whisper, turning to Diaval.
He smiles, "I'm glad you like it, Y/n." His beautiful accented voice fills your ear as you drown him in the biggest hug ever.
Your birthday celebration goes by fast, and you wish it could last longer, but it's nearing the end of the day.
You lay down with your favourite raven-man by your side on the hill.
"So, how was your birthday?" He asks, grinning mischievously at you.
"It was amazing, thank you."
"You know, I've just thought of something."
"Hmm?"
"You never sing anymore," He says sadly.
You frown, "I guess I don't."
"I miss your singing."
You chuckle, "Well, you're probably more used to the sweet voices of nightingales."
"No, your singing outshines even that of the most musically inclined fowl."
"You're just saying that."
He looks at you in complete seriousness, "No, I'm not! I know good singing when I hear it!"
"Huh, really?"
"Here, let me prove it. Sing something. I guarantee that it'll be the most beautiful sound in the world."
"I'd rather not..."
"Oh, come on! For old time's sake! You used to sing all the time when you were younger..."
You huff before giving in to his request.
"Fine, what shall I sing?"
"How about an original song?"
"Uh, I don't know..."
"C'mon Y/n."
You sigh before sitting up.
Starting to sing, you let the melody in your head burst from your lips and you let the music take you away.
"They say that falling in love is wonderful."
You start singing, moving to rest against a tree.
"It's wonderful, so they say
And, with a moon up above, it's wonderful
It's wonderful, so they tell me"
Diaval smiles and gets up, standing beside you.
"I can't recall who said it
I know I never read it
I only know they tell me that love is grand"
He takes you in his arms, and you lean against his chest.
"And,
The thing that's known as romance is wonderful, wonderful
In every way, so they say"
He leans his head down so that his cheek brushes your neck.
"To leave your house some morning
And, without any warning
You're stopping people, shouting that love is grand
And,"
You turn to look into Diaval's deep brown eyes, and lean closer to him. He slowly twirls you around.
"To hold a heart in your arms is wonderful, wonderful
In every way
So they say..."
You start to close the small gap between your lips and his, your arms wrapped around his neck. It's so quiet, and you can hear each other's breathing as the breaths mingled together because of your close proximately.
His breath hitches, and he suddenly yanks away from you, as if he'd been burned.
You gasp at his sudden reaction and stutter a quick apology before dashing off back to the cottage.
That night, Diaval doesn't come to the windowsill.
You wait for him well into the night, but he doesn't show. So, with a sunken heart, you turn your back to the window and try to find respite in sleep.
But sleep doesn't come easily, and you find yourself roaming over the evening, trying to find out what you did wrong. And trying to find out why he didn't kiss you.
He's a raven, of course he doesn't love a stupid girl like me! You think to yourself before falling into a sad sleep.
