What is a vocaweeb?
If you're not part of the Vocaloid fandom or recently got into it and are wondering what "vocaweeb" means, then this is the right place to be!
A vocaweeb is sort of like a regular weeb, a person who's on the verge of having an unhealthy obsession with anime. However, vocaweebs are people who are close to having an unhealthy obsession with Vocaloid.
For example, they're constantly quoting Vocaloid songs, reading or writing fanfictions, referencing talkloids (videos in which Vocaloids interact and talk like people rather than sing), performing snippets of Vocaloid MMDs or Project Diva MV dances... you get the idea.
I'd like to say that we're not as forceful or scary as some regular weebs (notice I said some, not all), but that differs from person to person and community to community.
For example:
People who ship two Crypton Vocaloids, Len and Miku (known as Lenku shippers) are known to be more low-key and mellow. There are quite a few of them, and while they're passionate about their ship, they're polite about it. Whether this is because they feel like their ship is superior to all or if it's just because they have some of the biggest numbers and feel safe, I don't know.
I personally don't ship Lenku, since Miku is a couple of years older than Len and I find some of their interactions a bit awkward... but there are plenty of Lenku shippers to ask around if you want to know their reasoning!
However, some people ship Len with another Crypton Vocaloid, Rin. Some of them are polite and mellow like the Lenku shippers, but others can get really defensive and almost aggressive if you disrespect their ship.
It's kind of justified that they might be upset that so many people don't like their ship. In many scenarios, Rin and Len are perceived as twins. However, RinLen shippers don't feel this way, and this can cause them to act a bit aggressive about defending their ship.
Note that I said some, not all. Many RinLen shippers are respectful towards other views. It's the minority that can give them a slightly down reputation...
Anyway, that's the segment about how vocaweebs are diverse through ships. There are many other factors that diversify vocaweebs, however!
Some fans prefer J-rock, and this means they lean towards Vocaloid producers like DECO*27, Dasu, and Neru. They tend to produce more rock-like songs with strong meanings and powerful instrumentals.
Others might prefer J-pop, and lean towards more pop producers like MitchieM, KIRA, VocaCircus, and Crusher-P.
Some prefer darker songs like those from Kikuo and Steampianist. Others prefer upbeat songs like those from Pinocchio-P or Kairiki Bear.
Since there's a lot of diversity in Vocaloid music, there's a lot of diversity within the fanbase!
I'm pretty sure that's why I appreciate this fandom so much... there's a lot of openness and room for originality. Producers like Giga-P and Kanaria have recently gained popularity, which proves that there's always room for new figures.
Ah, I love this fandom so much...! ʕ灬→ᴥ←灬ʔ
Alright, that's all I have on the topic of types of vocaweebs! Let me know what you guys think.
See you in the next chapter!
