Chapter 8. That's a bad word, don't use it
Daddy changed. After mommy got killed, he was barely home. All I was all alone and spend my days crying in the corner with my teddybear. I didn't want to do anything anymore. No homework, no reading, no playing. I just wanted my mother back. Optics teared up again. I was so lonely and I missed mommy so horrible much. I hugged my teddybear and listened to the ticking of the clock. To smooth my pain a little bit, pretended she was at the grocery store, getting food for tonight.
I heard a knock on the door and opened up. 'Hey, Mirage... you're okay?' Que crouched down. I hugged him. 'Where's your mother,' he asked. I started crying again. 'Mommy is dead...' I sobbed. 'Oh, poor sparkling.' He picked me up, hugging me. He shut the door behind and sat down on the couch. 'A mech killed her, I saw it.' He rubbed my helmet.
'She promised to never leave me...'
'I am so sorry Mirage,' he said quietly. 'I miss her so much,' I whispered. 'I know how hard it is. It maybe doesn't seem like it, but it will be okay,' he said. He wiped tears off my cheekplating. 'How?' I asked. 'It's hard to explain,' he said. I leaned into frame again. 'Where's your father?' He asked. 'I don't know. He left for work,' I whispered. 'Are you hungry?' He asked. I shook my helmet. 'No,' I whispered.
'Being along in this house won't do much good either,' he said. 'You don't look really good, little one.' He rubbed my helm like mommy always used to do. Que got up and walked over to the kitchen. He found my father's comm link in a book my mother used for all kinds of numbers and things she needed to remember. 'Alright, Mirage... come on.' Que picked me up and handed me my teddybear.
'Where are we going?' I asked. 'Little walk... meeting someone,' he said. I had to trust him. My mommy trusted and I had done that in the past as well. Que brought me to a huge building. 'This is the hospital,' he said as he walked inside and took me upstairs with the elevator.
'I am here for Ratchet,' Que said to the femme behind the desk. After a little waiting a large mech walked up to us. 'Que...' he looked at me. 'This is Mirage and he lost his mother. She got killed by a Decepticon. He's just not doing very well,' he said. Ratchet gestured to us to follow him. Que gently placed me on a medical bed. 'Hello, Mirage. I am Ratchet. I am a doctor... I want to do a test, alright?' I nodded. 'You are dehydrated,' he said after an inspection.
I shivered. 'Let's give you some warm Energon,' he said. 'Fragging Decepticons,' Ratchet scowled. 'Fragging?' I repeated. 'That's a bad word, don't use that,' Ratchet said as he walked up to the door. 'Fragging.' I repeated. Que lifted my chin. 'That's a bad word,' he repeated. 'It's a funny word, what does it mean?' I asked curiously. 'Uhm, it's a... another word for... stupid,' he said slowly. I thought about it for a moment. 'This Fragging.' He shook his helm. 'Bad word,' he cooed. I giggled. 'At least you're laughing a little,' he said.
Ratchet returned and handed me a bottle with warm Energon. I sat back, drinking it. 'It's mostly stress and grief. He'll be fine,' Ratchet said, glancing at me. I curled up when I finished drinking and tightly held my teddy bear. Ratchet walked up to me again and wrapped a blanket around me. 'You'll be fine, little one,' he said. 'How do you know?' I asked quietly. 'Because I am a doctor. I know everything,' he said teasingly. I smiled a little. 'There you go,' he purred. 'You're a cute one,' he said and turned towards Que. 'Sire?'
'I don't know know the family that well. I saved him a couple of weeks ago and went by to see how he was doing. I found all alone and crying,' he said. Ratchet looked back at me again. 'Who was your mother?' He asked. 'Tempest,' I replied. 'Ahw, Tempest...' he muttered. I perked my head up. 'What's wrong?' I asked. 'I knew your mother... we worked together for some time and I helped her giving birth to you,' he said. 'Really?!' He nodded and sat down beside me. 'You're gonna be okay, Mirage.'
I looked at Que. 'You two are friends, right? But you're not a doctor,' I said. 'Yup, we are colleagues. We do research together,' Que said. 'Because you make things?' I asked. He laughed and nodded. 'I do.' I hummed. 'But... why do see tension?' I asked. They glanced at each other. 'Tension?' Ratchet said. 'Yes, I can sense it... I feel it. My mommy says I am high sensitive. I am really good at reading people,' I said proudly. 'Yeah, I see...' Ratchet said.
'Big bot issues, nothing to concern about,' Ratchet added. 'Don't treat me like a sparkling. I understand a lot,' I said. He snorted, 'yeah, I bet.' He got up. 'Do you know Jazz? My mommy says that smart bots get higher in society and meet famous bots.' Que laughed again. 'Jazz is a good friend. You meet him?' He asked. 'Yes! Mommy took me to a festival. I met Ironhide too,' I chirped. 'Really? He's scary, isn't he?' Ratchet teased. I giggled as he poked me. 'Ironhide is the biggest mech I have ever seen. He's even bigger than my daddy,' I said. 'Well, there are bots who are much taller than Ironhide. Like Optimus Prime,' Que said.
'Really? You met him?'
'Optimus has a close team and we are part of that team,' Ratchet said. 'That's so cool! How do you become part of that team?' I asked. 'I am a doctor and Optimus needs a doctor too. I am also the boss of all the doctors and nurses here,' he said. My eyes widened in amazement. 'Alright, little one. Get some rest,' Ratchet said. I gave a small nod and curled up. 'Can you stay, Que?' The blue mech smiled and sat down on the edge. 'Of course,' he mumbled. He started to rub my help, just like my mommy used to do and fell in a deep slumber.
