Chapter 3. I just wanted to read a book

'Eat your food, Mirage.'

I kept poking in my food for the last 10 minutes. 'I am not hungry,' I muttered. 'But you will be a big mech if you eat your food now,' dad said. I didn't reply and shove my plate away from me. 'What is wrong, Mirage?' Mommy asked. 'Nothing, I am going upstairs,' I sulked and slid off the chair. I curled up on my bed, hugging my teddybear. Mom walked only seconds later and shut the door. 'Talk to me,' she said as she sat down beside me. 'Kids think I am weird. I don't want to play with them... I don't want to interact with them,' I said. 'But it's important,' she said. 'Why? I have you,' I said and sat up. 'yeah, but having friends is important,' she said. She wiped some tears of my face. 'I won't always be there,' she added. 'How do you mean?'

'Well, when you grow older... you are going to walk your own path. Perhaps with a sparkmate, build up your own life, get tons of friends,' she said. I started thinking about it for a moment. 'No, but what about you? I can't do anything with you,' I said. 'Yes, you can. You are my smart boy. Don't doubt yourself so much, sweetone,' she said and kissed my nose. I hugged her and buried my face in her chest. 'You're a strong and smart mech, Mirage. You will do great things when you are older,' she said. 'Do you think?' I asked. 'Oh, yes... I know that for sure,' she said. I looked up to her again. 'I love you mommy.' She hummed and kissed my helm. 'I love you too, Mirage. I love you so much,' she whispered. She rocked me a little as I got comfry and softly sang a lullaby for me.

The next morning, I didn't look forward going to primary programming. 'I am not going,' I snapped and stamped with my foot on the ground. 'Mirage, I am not going to argue with you,' mom said strictly and grabbed my servo. 'I am smarter than those kids! They don't understand me,' I snarled. 'You haven't given them a change to know you,' she stated. 'That's not true! I tried,' I said and yanked my arm back before sitting down on the ground with my arms crossed. 'Mirage, get up.' She hoisted me up and took me outside. 'I hate school,' I shouted. 'Mirage, you have to give it a change,' she said, taking me with me and tightly held my hand. 'Than why don't you stay? Why do you leave me.' She looked down at me. 'Because you need to do it yourself,' she said.

As we reached the classroom, I felt so angry. Frustrated even. 'Piss off!' I shouted at a femme. 'Mirage,' my mother snapped. I looked up to her. 'You will not make any friends with this behavior,' she sternly said. 'And I don't want to be here,' I snapped back and yanked my hand from her tight grip. 'I really don't like this behavior, Mirage,' she said while crouching down. 'Than take me home,' I said. 'No, Mirage you need to go through this,' she said. I looked away from her, my arms crossed. 'I will pick you up this afternoon,' she said and kissed my helm. 'Go leave me... you don't care,' I snapped as she got up. 'I do care. You are here because you need to learn,' she said. 'You can teach me... I don't want you to leave me,' I said, grasping her hand. She rubbed my head. 'I have to go... try to make friends,' she said. Windblade grasped my servo and I watched my mommy disapear.

I felt lonely and angry. I yanked my servo back and settled in the corner with my mathbook. What am I learning? To play with other kids!? It's boring and I don't learn anything.
When they sparklings were playing outside, I managed to sneak away. I am really good at it and didn't take me too much efford. I strolled through the school and found a door with the word 'libary' on it. I softly pushed the door open and looked around. All kinds of books. It amazed and interested me. I walked inside and started to look through the books. I stumbled upon a book about crimes. I took it and sat down on the beanbag, reading the book. This is more interesting than the stories Windblade reads us. This actually makes sense.

Halfway through the book, I heard someone approaching. 'Hello, what are you doing here?' The mech looked down at me. 'Reading,' I sulked and looked back in the book, pretending he wasn't there. 'Shouldn't you be with your class?' he asked, crossing his arms. 'No,' I snapped. 'I think you do,' he said and snitched the book from my servo's. 'Hey!' I shouted angrily. I tried to snitch it back from his servo but he was too tall for me. He placed the book on the top shelf where I couldn't reach it and grabbed my servo, yanking me with him. 'I wanna read the book,' I shouted. 'All you can do is look at pictures,' he growled. Windblade wasn't really happy either but I cared less. No one seemed to be happy with me lately. I want things to turn back the way they were.

I started crying. I wanted to go home, I didn't like the school and I didn't like the people. My mom showed up earlier than she was supposed to. 'Mirage, come here.' I turned my back towards her. She sat on her knees. 'Mirage...' she asked my attention again. 'Come on...' she helped me back up on my feet and took me outside. 'I wanna go home,' I cried. 'We are,' she said. I shook my helm. 'No, to our old home. I miss it, I want to go back.' She picked me up. 'We can't. This is our new home now,' she said. Mommy walked over to a park and placed me back on the ground. 'Why did you escape?' she asked. 'I found a place with books... a lot of books. I was reading a book but the mech snitched it out of my servo,'s.'

'You wasn't supposed to be there,' she said. 'I wanted to learn something. I don't care about playing games. If I have to be there, I want to do something interesting. It's too simple,' I sulked. Mommy vented softly. 'Come on.' We left the park and crossed the road, walking over to a shop. 'A book shop. You can pick a book you'd like to read,' she said. I let go of her servo and looked around. 'The sparkling books are here,' she said. I shook my helm and searched through the shelfs. 'This one.' I grabbed one and showed her the book. 'Spy games?' she asked. 'I was reading the book... it's a good book,' I said. She looked at me again. 'Alright,' she said. 'Is there another book you would like to have?' she asked. I started to look through the books again. 'This one. The last protector.'

She bought me the books and handed me the bag. I felt much better than previously. Back home, I settled on the couch, reading the books mommy got me.
