Home sweet home
After escaping that dufus, I got a slushy from the store. Blah blah, then I walked home. It was a usual day in my neighborhood, quiet. Except...
"Hey, Jade!"
I recognized that sweet- er... nice voice.
"Hey, Andy!"
Andy is a neighbor of mine. He's super nice, my age too. His ginger hair always covers half of his face. The same way my black hair usually goes over one eye. His eyes were brown. I'm not talking that creepy brown, I'm talking about that silky rich, chocolaty brown. I wish my eyes were like that.
"So, how was the last day? Sad to leave?"
I chuckled.
"Yeah right, more like eager to escape."
We both smiled. Honestly though, he's literally the only guy that understands when, and when not to hit on me. He's been my best friend for even longer than Tasha. Even though he doesn't go to my school. I remeber as a kid, spending countless evenings trying to beat him at soccer. Someday I will .
"Hey you busy later?"
"Nah, Netflix can wait." I replied.
He flashed his dorky smile.
It was around 4 when I texted him.
Hey done eating...4 now.
I waited, and moments later he replied.
K I'll be out in a sec. My bro took my shoes -_-
Without realising, I began to smile. Yes I know it's stupid, but I realize it now.
I got outside, and was greeted by his warm smile. As usual he was holding his blue and white soccer ball.
"I'll get you this time"
"We'll see" He said, smiling.
We'd been playing for at least 30 minutes straight. I was at the point where I almost didn't know what I was doing. I wasn't controlling my legs, yet the ran on, chasing the ball.
Finally he picked up the ball.
"I need some water, you look like you do too. "
I nodded at him, holding my throat.
He began walking down the street to his house, and I was already at mine.
I came back out, with a water bottle.
I set it down on the picnic bench in my yard.
It was only a few seconds later that I heard a strange noise, like wheels...
Scooter wheels.
"Too lazy to walk eh?"
He smiled.
"Just thought I could get here faster."
He set his water bottle down by mine, but it wasn't as full.
We started playing again, without realising the time. It grew to a point where it was almost too dark to see the ball. Somehow we managed.
"Score!" I yelled exitedly.
Then I picked up the ball, to let him know we should stop.
"Oh come on, Jade.."
I snickered.
"Nuh-uh"
I reached over to grab my water, and he reached for his. Yet somehow our hands ended up on the same bottle. I even thought about it, it was mine though.
"Oh..." He said, letting go.
"Yours might have fallen down."
He looked around for it, and I tried to help. I got up, but just as I did, I heard a crunch noise.
His water bottle was right by my foot.
I picked it up,and gave it to him...Duh.
His hand touched mine, and he didn't let go. I looked up at him, since he was slightly taller.
Our eyes locked for a moment,he just starred..so did I,like come on, what am I supposed to do?
Finally he shook his head and said thanks. I tried to ask him what had happened, he wouldn't look at me. He just sat there, drinking his water, but never turned to face me.
Andy just shrugged it off, saying he must've zoned out.
"Okay..." I told him, still doubting it.
Finally when like, half his water was gone, he turned around so I could see his face properly.
It was a light pink color, like those little blankets people would give their baby if it was a girl.
"Hey, are you ok Andy?"
"W-what? Yeah I'm fine."
I shrugged it off, maybe he was just tired.
He took his phone out of his pocket.
"Oh god, it's late. 9 o'clock."
"Yeah, my Netflix is waiting."
He smiled, and said goodnight.
It was only now, when I walked into my house had I recalled everything. I realised that his face was not pink because he was tired, but because..he had been blushing.
