Lady Lessons & Secrets
The next morning, Diana could hear a rooster in the distance. Thinking that sound wasn't something she normally woke up to she suddenly felt something, or someone move behind her. Her eyes opened and she looked down and said a silent thank you to god, she was still in her nightdress. Then her eyes looked to the arm that was being used as her pillow. She could see skin, she turned carefully trying not to disturb the sleeping person and saw it was Brendan who was also wearing his night attire.
She knew they had done nothing besides kiss last night, still she just wanted to make sure her memory was correct. Shivering she realized that there was no such thing as true indoor heating in this time. As if responding to her shiver, Brendan drew her closer to him and provided body heat to warm her up. For some reason she felt as though she knew him better than she should have. That was something she would have to ask Fred about later.
She couldn't help but look at Brendan, though he was handsome and gave her butterflies in her stomach his face did not have any specific memory from her past come forward. The more she looked at him though, the faster her heart began to beat. A blush began to overcome her face as there was a knock at the door. Whoever it was didn't wait for an answer and the door opened, a few ladies entered the room and giggled.
"Oh lovely, the cheerleading squad of this time." Diana mumbled as she tried to ignore them.
"We are here to dress you miss, your cousin, the Queen insists that you start your lessons today. She awaits for you in the library." One girls spoke up.
Diana sighed as she rolled out of Brendan's embrace and felt the cold chill upon her skin. Looking to the fireplace in the room, she saw one other girls who was dressed much differently than the others and she was putting logs into the fireplace and trying to start a fire, Diana would forever be grateful for that woman. Brendan hid under the blankets of the bed, not that she blamed him but when she saw a woman go to un cover him she spoke up.
"He's exhausted and needs rest, I suggest you let him sleep." Diana said in a calm yet demanding tone.
She moved to stand before the mirror in her room. The women went to work putting on the many layers of clothes. This took longer then she wanted it to, however each woman had a job to do and explained to her what each item of clothing was for. The information she was happy to learn, she just wish it could have been done faster. When she opened her eyes again, she saw she was now in a dark green dress, one that complimented her hair color. She didn't was to wear the matching top piece for her head and the women did not argue with her.
"We shall let the queen know you are on your way at once." The same women said with a small curtsey and they all fled the room.
Sighing in relief, she looked over at the bed and saw Brendan was now atop the blanket and looking at her. Somehow he had snuck away to some part of the room to change to a shirt and black breeches. He was sneaky, Diana had to give him credit for that.
"People will believe you and I are lovers now. Will you deny those rumors?" Diana asked as she went to a side table and brushed her hair.
"No, I have no reason to. In fact you are the reason I am still alive and fed, I wish you luck at your teachings today." Brendan said as he stood from the bed.
"What will you do?"
"Go help the other's in the kitchen, things a normal non titled person does I suppose." He shrugged in reply.
"Be careful, I am not sure I trust your ex wife any farther than I could throw her." Diana says as she goes to walk to the door but Brendan takes her hand gently and stops her.
"Her name is Lady Camile, she has a lot of ideas and shares them with the King often, perhaps to keep us both safe you should stay away from her?" he questioned as he looked Diana in the eye.
He was concerned for her? This man barely knew her for 24 hours and yet he wanted, oh he probably just wanted to make sure he didn't loose him meal ticket. Nodding, she decided not to say anything else. She left the room and since she was on her own she decided to call out to Fred.
"Fred run a background check on my lover, facial recognition and everything like that." Diana said and if anyone was looking at her or listening to her they would think she was talking to herself.
In her ear, she heard a rather shocked reply and it wasn't from Fred.
"DIANA! You have a lover?!" Abigail, Diana's mother yelped from her side of the microphone.
"Not the time, please just hear me out and do this. Off to lady lessons." Diana replied and turned off her communicator.
Once in the library she saw Queen Catherine was sitting by the fireplace and was drinking her cup of tea. A part of her wondered if the queen would be mad at her for being late, instead she went up and curtseyed to the Queen expecting her to be mad or harsh with her.
"Cousin, welcome to your first lesson. Shall we start with your walk?" the queen said standing from her seat and walking to Diana. "Two books to start with. Balance them and walk three aisles down without dropping one."
"Yes my queen." Diana replied.
She stood tall and watched as one of the ladies in waiting put two books on her head. Was this really part of training? In all honesty she felt it was something someone would see in a children's movie. Still she did as the queen asked. Doing so she got quite a few looks from the patrons of the library. The queen watched and followed her to make sure Diana did just as she was told.
Two hours after that, Lady Camile decided to join the group. She insisted that Diana should practice in the art of dancing. Not that anyone would argue with the King's favorite, so Diana conceded and went with them to the main dining hall where all the balls were held.
"She will need a partner will she not?" Lady Camile asked and looked around the room.
Diana truly disliked this person with all of her being, she just radiated a true heaviness that Diana could not describe properly. Brendan was brought forward, and he bowed before Diana.
"Ah, the lover of course." Lady Camile said with a chuckle as the music started.
Instead of acting as though she knew nothing, Diana and Brendan danced as though they had danced every day. The queen watched with a smile as she saw her cousin dancing with grace and ease. It was something that she would not have to worry about whenever suitors came to call. Finally, after what seemed like hours, the queen dismissed Diana to enjoy the rest of her day. Smiling, she curtseyed and then left the room. Brendan had already left after the dancing portion of the lessons. However, she could hear Lady Camile talking to someone not too far away.
"I stole it from him, idiot doesn't even remember who he is. Who in their right mind would think someone like me would marry someone like him?" Lady Camile spoke with a chuckle, that was truly not the way to talk in this time.
Touching her bracelet, Diana's dress disappeared and turned into her suit. This was it could blend in. Putting the hooded mask on. She followed the voice; it was in the deepest part of the gardens and once she turned the corner, she did see Lady Camile but not in the way she should have. She was dressed in a time traveler suit much like the one Diana was wearing. Sneaking away from the scene, Diana decided to make a quick trip back to HQ, things had just become even more complicated.
