Attack and Fears
Well this was not good at all. Diana saw an incredibly angry Camile with a dagger in her hand. Not that she blamed her, after all she was embarrassed in front of the whole court at dinner and now, she was out for blood, Diana's blood at that.
"Don't even try to run, I will bathe in your blood.'' Camille said with an evil grin.
"That's sick." Diana said trying to remain unfazed by the situation.
Camile went to attack when her hand was held up and drawn backwards. She was spun the opposite way and then suddenly fell right in front of Diana. Surprised, Diana looked up to see who helped her and there was Simon. He bent down and took the dagger and stashed it on his belt. He looked up to Diana and took her hand.
"Come on, I don't want to be here when she wakes up." He said as he led her down the hall.
"What did you do? Some kind if paralyzing mist?" Diana asked.
"No, I just punched her in her face. Works every time." He replied as they kept walking just at a faster pace than before.
Once back in the room, Diana felt an odd feeling. Seeing Simon defend her ignited something in her. Usually she was the one defending other but having the roles reversed was quite different than what she was used to, and she could not help but chuckle. Simon looked at her with a raised brown.
"Diana? Are you ok?" he asked in all seriousness as he went up and held her at arms distance. "Diana? Hello?"
He leaned in to check her eyes and then Diana grabbed Simon and kissed him right on the lips. Entangling his hand in her hair, he pulled her closer and made their kiss become deeper. The crush he had for her in HQ had grown now, he wanted to protect her. That is why he followed her, he knew Camile would be up to something and when it came time to protect and defend Diana he did not hesitate. He would do anything to keep her right where she was, in his arms. A loud knock made them both turn to the door, but they did not separate. The door opened and there stood Anne. She smiled as she saw the position Simon and Diana were in.
"Forgive my intrusion." Anne said as she walked in.
Simon held still as Diana turned to look at Anne.
"I came to thank you for what you did tonight and to tell you I too will come to your aide if the need should ever arise." Anne said as she kept her eyes on Diana.
"She will try all she can to get you away from the King, please be careful." Diana answered being completely honest.
"I know she will, I have some tricks of my own as well. Sleep well and know as you watch out for me, I too watch for you as well." Anne replied and then quickly left the room.
Diana looked to Simon and he looked skeptical. They had every right to be, but something told them it would be better to be on Anne's good side rather than her bad. Simon put his right arm around Diana's shoulders and held her close.
"Best get some sleep, lord only knows what is in store for us tomorrow." Simon spoke in a soft and gentle voice into her ear.
Nodding in agreement, they both stood and looked at the door. Hopefully, they were doing the right thing and not about to lose their heads. Diana and Simon changed for bed, there Diana came completely clean about her fears on this mission. Simon sat with his body turned towards her, his hands in his lap and he just listened to all her fears and apprehensions. She did not want someone to argue with, she just needed someone to listen to her and he did just that. When she finished and was about to burst into tears, it was then Simon took Diana into his arms and just held her.
"What is that?" John, Diana's stepfather asked pointing at the screen both Fred and Abigail were watching.
"Simon is holding the love of his life in his arms after she confessed all her fears to him." Fred sighed.
Both Abigail and John looked over at him with questioning looks on their faces. They knew he was right, yet he caught onto it so quickly it was a bit shocking. Abigail turned back to John and put her hand on his trying to comfort him.
"Diana is growing up, lucky for her she has Simon and he listens to her." Abigail smiles to her husband. "He even defended her from an attack."
John then went to a separate computer and did a dig into Simon's file. Within a matter of moments, he sent the file to Abigail who sighed as she opened it. She had already read the file. John was going to point out things she already knew about the man.
"Ab's really? He was a guard, what the heck is he doing on a field mission?" John asked clearly not sure about the situation.
Fred then explained everything that happened, and John's haw dropped.
"She took him on as a partner, just like that. No questions or anything like that?"
"Nope, she likes him. They've had a crush on one another since the self defense class." Abigail smiles at John.
"Crush? She's 26, isn't she a little old for a crush I mean he's probably way too young for her." John states.
"He's 28, I'd say they look good together." Fred comments as he dismisses the scene from the screen.
Diana and Simon slept in the bed; most the time Diana could sleep right through the night even if there was a thunderstorm. However, this storm seemed to be much stronger than the others she had slept through. A bright crack of lighting followed by a loud boom of thunder make her jump up in bed right out of a dream she probably could not remember. In truth she hated thunderstorms and preferred to sleep right through them if it was possible. Looking out the dark window she could see the lighting continue.
"What is it?" Simon asked groggily, clearly, she had woken him on accident.
"You'll think I am a fool if I tell you." Diana mumbled; she did not want to tell him about her fear.
"I can hear you when you mumble too. Come on, just say it and that way I maybe able to help you." Simon said in a gentle and soft voice so close she could feel his breath on her neck.
"Thunderstorms, I hate them. I have a fear of them." She sighed as she tried to hide beneath the blanket.
Simon did not laugh; he did not say anything. Instead he took her in his arms and held her. He knew she would have to come up for air eventually. She did, she looked up and saw Simon looking down right at her. His gaze only directed on her.
"That's pretty common, sounds like a strong one out there but I don't think its anything to worry about." Simon said as he tried to calm Diana.
"I'm sure you are right but its not a fear I can control, believe me I've tried." Diana said and she shivered.
Simon felt the shiver and knew the fire was out. Diana was always cold and hated it when the fire went out, so Simon untangled himself from her and got out of bed, confused Diana turned and watched to see what he was doing. Maybe he wanted to leave because he thought she was childish to be afraid of thunderstorms. No, instead he went and put logs in the fire. The embers were barely there but somehow, he managed to restart the fire. He sat down before the fire on the rug right in front of the hearth. He looked over her way and beckoned for her to come to him.
"Come here, I'll hold you until the storm passes then we can both get some rest." Simon said holding his arms open for her.
Diana pushed the blanket off her and slid off the bed, her feet touched the cold ground and she ran to him and almost tackled him to the ground when she went to his arms. He chuckled and held her as they both looked at the fire. He was trying his best to distract her. However, with the frequency of the lighting it was harder than it looked.
"I remember the first time I saw you; you had just come back from a mission. You were the second in command and you walked with two other girls. All your heads held high from a mission well done but you happened to look my way, you smiled at me and I could not help but smile back. I only knew your agent number then, not even your name but there with one smile you caught more than just my interest." Simon said as he placed his chin on top of Diana's head.
"Tell me more, I like to hear stories like this." Diana said trying to suppress a yawn.
"I only signed up for the defense class because you taught it. That is when I finally learned your name. Diana Aro, Daughter of Abigail Jones and Aro of Rome. I admit I did not know much about you, but your name was more than enough for me. I even signed up to be a field agent in hope of one day being placed on a mission with you. My training was to begin after I grabbed the brat that brought me here." Simon sighed as he looked down at Diana.
Her position had changed, she was now looking up at him and her eyes held something like a twinkle to him. Simon leaned down and pressed a feather light kiss to her lips. When he pulled back, he saw her smiling at him, she then leaned into him and rested her head on his chest.
"You had shorter hair back then." Diana commented with a giggle.
"I'll cut it when this is over." Simon scoffed with a chuckle.
"No, I like it this way. It is soft and you even managed to make it smell nice. Also gives me something to hold onto when we kiss deeply." Diana smiled and closed her eyes.
"Yeah. You win, the long hair stays as long as I can tolerate it." He laughed as he looked into the fire. "I know I'm not your first choice in a partner but thank you for giving me the option to stay and protect you."
"You've already saved me; I think you will be a wonderful field agent. I'd even request for you to be my partner." Diana said sleepily.
"I'd jump to stay with you as your partner." Simon smiled as he looked down at a now sleeping Diana. "I'd never leave your side even if my life was threatened."
