Anne's Promise

Diana held her head high as the cell door opened. She was dressed in a long black dress. She didn't know if that was something everyone wore on their way to the chopping block, but this was her choice. The guard pointed ahead, wanting her to walk out of the cell on her own free will. She did, she took confident steps as she walked out of the cell, she was lead by four guards. Why four? She had no idea, but she knew that once again that damn woman was in favor of the king again and he cousin was no longer around to help her out.

Being led to the lawn, she could see there was a crowd gathered waiting to see her head roll. Literally. Obviously they didn't have much to do with their free time in this time period. Diana was lead to the steps of the stage. Looking out she could see Simon was shackled and trying his best to break free and release her. She shook her head at him, she did not want him to have to suffer a fate similar to hers.

Then beside the King she was expecting to see the new queen, Anne. However she was not there. Instead Camile sat on a regular chair and was smiling as she conversed with the king. Beside her sat Sam, he looked absolutely distraught, he had no power to help her, let alone save her from the bloody sword.

Standing before the chopping block, Diana contemplated. She knew that besides perhaps her own, two other female heads would fall victim to the block. Anne and Katherine Howard. Two women killed ahead of their time by a power hungry king who couldn't provide himself with a son.

"You stand accused of witchcraft, adultery and theft. What say you?" a random man called out to Diana.

"Not guilty, though what I say makes no never mind to you." Diana confessed.

The crowd started to boo her, something she did not really care about. However she was forced to her knees, her hair tied back and placed into a white bonnet. This was it, she said a silent prayer hoping some miracle would happen.

"DIANA!" Simon yelled at the top of his lungs.

"Halt! Stop this madness! My king I have proof that Camile should be placed upon the chopping block and not lady Diana." another female voice spoke up.

A female parted the crowd as she ran up to the steps and helped Diana to her feet. Shocked Diana turned to see who would dare to help her at this moment. It was Anne! Shocked Anne looked towards the King who was also shocked.

"Husband, the trinkets that were to be lady Diana's were in fact found in the wardrobe of lady Camile, this was a set up to make his highness look stupid." Anne spoke as one of her ladies in waiting came forward with a black bag.

Anne dumped all the contents onto the stage. It was all there, everything that Camile had accused Diana of using. Camile gasped and began to beg the king not to listen to Anne. However Anne had much more favor than Camile.

"Arrest her! Put her in the dungeon!" the king yelled.

Camile tried to escape but the guards held her tight and took off with her. The king agreed with Anne and had Diana released. Simon jumped up onto the stage and took Diana in his arms and just held her. She held him close and breathed in a sigh of relief.

"Oh thank god." Simon said kissing the top of her head.

Diana looked to Anne who smiled.

"We look out for one another, don't we?" Anne winked and then went off to join the king.

Diana was beyond grateful to the queen, her life had been sparred and she didn't know how she would ever thank her. Sam came up and put his cloak around her. He led Simon and Diana away from the stage and sighed.

"This has been a horrid day. The faster the king punishes her the better." Sam sighed.

"I agree. The faster the better." Simon agreed with Sam.

Diana sat in her room, sitting at the vanity she had sat at when her cousin was queen. taking a deep breath she sent a silent thank you out to god as well. Simon was fast asleep in his bed and it worried Diana not knowing where Sam was. She decided to go out and look for him.

When she finally found him on the balcony he looked over at her and smiled.

"I envy him, you know." Sam admitted.

"Who? The king?" Diana asked

"No, Simon. I envy him because he can be with you. Truly with you, you can marry him and travel through time together. He will get to watch our children grow up. Will I ever get to even see my child?" Sam asked bringing up a logical question.

Diana took a deep breath. This was going to be a lot to explain.

"Yes, you would be able to see the child. No, you can not travel as Simon and I do but that doesn't mean that you will be alone." Diana said as she went up to Sam. "We can always come back, stay for as long as we can, we would be able to be with you as much as we could."

Sam nodded. He wanted to see his child and Diana.

"Was I a fool to fall in love with you, knowing all the time, I truly could not have you?" Sam chuckled.

"No, I fell for you too. I want you to be happy though Sam, even if it is not with me." Diana admitted honestly.

"But your heart is Simon's anyone could tell that." Sam said as he caressed Diana's cheek. "I hope Simon knows how lucky he is."

"I do, I'll never let her go because if she did, I would die." Simon spoke up as he went to Diana's side and kissed her deeply on the lips. "I will always be hers as long as she will always be mine."

Sam laughed and went about his way. Diana wished deeply she could help him find a true love, just like she had with Simon. Maybe that wasn't up to her though.
