Run
(That is what Diana looks like after changing her looks.)
Diana sighed as she turned the page of the fifth book she had started today. Not many people came to the library which made her life a bit easier. She had managed to finish four books and was just about to finish her fifth when the bell on the library door rang. Slowly lowering her book, her eyes peeked over her small black rim glasses to see three women walk into the library. Polly, Lizzy and another woman she either hadn't met or did not remember from before.
"Something I can help you with ladies?" Diana questioned taking on Lillian's persona.
"Yes, there is a book we are looking for though I doubt it is on a shelf here." Polly chuckled, probably a little bit drunk from either today or the night before.
"Title please?" Diana asked, in a business like manner.
"Kama Sutra." Lizzy laughed.
Raising her eyebrow at the group she truly wondered if they were serious about what they were seeking. They kept giggling and commenting on the male anatomy to one another. So many things she wished not to hear, so she decided to take them to the section where it would be, if in fact it was truly there. Looking through the titles on the shelf, she finally got to the book and pulled it out and handed it to Lizzy. She gasped then chuckled, clearly surprised to see the book in person.
"Anything else ladies?" Diana asked, praying that the reply would be no.
"Nah, I think we will have our hands full with this for a while." Polly replied as she looked at the book from over Lizzy's shoulder.
"There is seating in the library, though I must ask you to keep your voices down as accustom to the patrons in the library." Diana said and turned to walk away only to run right into Tommy Shelby. "Sorry sir, forgive me. I did not see you."
Lizzy quickly hid the book behind her back as the three girls looked to Tommy. He didn't have an amused look on his face. In fact it was quite a serious and grim look. Thinking she needed to give them privacy, Diana moved to the side and walked back to her post at the librarian's desk.
Rolling her eyes, she began to sort the books that had been returned the night before. She delayed things like that in order to give her something to do when a time came that she didn't want to talk to anyone, such as now. Putting them in order first by the genre. Then she would alphabetize them and then put them away. She could hear the group with Tommy talking, though still trying to keep their voices down.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE WEDDING WON'T GO ON!" Lizzy screamed at the top of her lungs.
This caused Diana to jump and drop the book in her hand and immediately look over at them. Embarrassed, Polly just nodded her head and Diana quickly picked up the book she had dropped. She put it on the counter as she saw Tommy holding Lizzy by the arm and guiding her out the door. She couldn't care less why he decided that the wedding wouldn't go on. Instead she continued her librarian job. Arthur came over and whispered and apology before he left with Polly and the other woman. Diana nodded and watched as they left.
Letting out a breath she didn't realize she was holding, she sat down in a chair as her watch went off. Gently touching it, a hologram of her mother appeared and she looked surprised.
"The wedding is the target, they are going to try and take him then." Abigail told her daughter.
"Yeah, he just came in here and told Lizzy the wedding won't happen. You think he suspects something?" Diana asked unsure how he would have obtained such information.
"No, must be another gang or something after him. Keep a close eye and report more to me when you can." Abigail said and her hologram quickly disappeared.
Great, yet another gang might be after him. The only day that man won't be looking over his shoulder would be his funeral. Standing up, Diana went to collect her coat when a loud crash came from behind her. Turning around she was shocked to see a car had just crashed through the library wall. Who did that? Were they drunk? Are they injured? Diana quickly ran over and saw that the car was empty. Slowly backing away from it, she then turned and ran out of the library just as the car bomb went off behind her, destroying the entire library.
Diana was passed out on the ground, the cold cobblestone beneath her head and her body sprawled out on the road.
The next time she awoke she was in a room she didn't know. Turning left to right she tried hard to remember what this place might be. Suddenly she heard arguing from outside her door. Barely able to make the words out, all she heard was "You better find who did this, she's a librarian and of no use to them to get to us."
Who was that talking? Why did someone come after her? After all no one knew who she really was. The door to her room opened and there stood three people. Polly, Arthur and Tommy. So much for avoiding them this time as well.
"You alright?" Polly asked as she walked up to the side of the bed.
"My head, it feels like its been split open." Diana answered honestly.
"We are the reason that your library no longer exists." Arthur sighed.
"What do you mean?"
"The people after my family saw us leave your job, they assumed you were with us and decided to try and take you out." Tommy answered.
"I don't even know who you are? All you did was ask me about a book." Diana lied, she knew she couldn't be honest with them.
"As of now, we are the ones that are going to protect you. This was our mess we pulled you into and we will guard you because of it." Arthur spoke up.
A sudden wave of drowsiness came over Diana and she laid her head back on her hospital bed. Tommy told Polly and Arthur he would take the first watch over her, so they left the room waiting for him to call and ask to be replaced. Diana took normal breaths and closed her eyes.
"I apologize miss, this was not called for at all. What is your name though?" he questioned.
"Lillian Brown, I am just a simple librarian. All I did was take them to the book they wanted to see." Diana sobbed with her eyes closed.
"They'll be dealt with soon, I promise you that." Tommy answered as he looked to her. "Try to rest, that is what is for the best."
