Helping

Diana knew what her mother said was right, she wasn't in the right head space and if she wanted to accomplish anything on this mission, she would have to give this family a chance. Everything was written on paper of what they had done, however that was only one side of the story.

"You know what to do, you interfere, he will be on the look out for you. Go make it right Diana." Her mother said in a stern voice.

She watched as her mother turned and walked into the abyss. She was going back no doubt to keep an eye on her and taking a deep breath Diana walked back to the Garrison, into the main room where she left Mr. Shelby and she wasn't disappointed to find him still laying on the ground looking up at the ceiling mumbling about something.

"The world moving against you Mr. Shelby?" Diana asked in a calm and kind tone.

He groaned and looked up at her. No doubt wondering why in the world the woman who put him down on the floor was now back and looking down at him.

"What do you want?" he sighed closing his eyes.

"Perhaps we start with getting you up off the floor and getting you home. I'm sure your son is scared wondering where his father is." Diana said as she knelt beside the man but was still on guard.

He barely sat up when his balance went out the window, Diana held him up with one hand behind his back. Therefore, only serving as little support for the man. Mr. Shelby looked up and her and she could see his eyes were red, no doubt from all the tears he had shed for his deceased wife. No doubt he was tired and beyond the point of thinking sanely. Lifting him up to stand, it took him a moment to get his balance and Diana assisted him the best she could. She was raised with gladiators so she was use to having to help with chores and carrying things around but this man seemed quite heavy for her. Why was this skinny guy so heavy?

"Can you walk sir?" Diana asked with a heavy sigh.

"No I can't fu-" he started but Diana stopped him.

"No will be a sufficient answer, just tell me where to take you and we will get you there...eventually." She said as they made their way out of the bar.

Never in her life, did she think she would be carrying a broken man back home. The house was grand and with just a few knocks on the door it opened to reveal Aunt Pol staring down at the two of them.

"Jesus Christ Tommy." Pol said pulling them inside.

The door shut behind them as Diana sat him on a nearby chair, she knew she had to make an escape because Aunt Pol was great at intimidating people and interrogating them. She untangled herself from the man and turned to make a run for it only to hear.

"Hold it right there." Pol called out to Diana who froze. "Who the hell are you?"

"No one of importance, I found him, brought him here. Job done." She said as she took two more steps to the door.

"Do you have any idea who he is? Who his family is?" Pol questioned as she went to stop Diana right at the door. "You have any idea whom you just associated yourself with?"

Diana looked up at Pol and tried her best to keep her mouth shut. In fact she knew everything that had been written down about the family. Even the illegal business. However she knew now was not the time to bring any of that up, at this point it was probably best to just play stupid.

"No, I saw a helpless man who needed help getting home. That is all Ma'am. I care not for someone's name when I can help them even if it be just to get home." Diana answered.

"Girl, he won't remember you in the morning, don't hope that you made any sort of impression on him." Pol chuckled at Diana.

"Good, I wouldn't want to do that. Better to be forgotten then have something held over my head. If you'll excuse me I have places to go." Diana spoke carefully as she watched Aunt Pol smile and open the door for her.

Diana walked out and into the streets. Maybe this made up for her throwing well more or less pushing the man into a table.

The next morning, Diana sat on the chair in the small apartment she had. Shaking herself out of the dreamland she was in, Heather walked into the room paper in hand. This was never a good sign and looking down at the paper she saw it was a picture or her taking home Mr. Shelby. Good thing was the lighting was so bad that no one could see any facial features about her.

"What happened to watch and report?" Heather asked as she sat down by Diana.

"It wasn't as easy as I thought. Heather, you don't know what happened so before you go accusing me, I suggest you get my side of the story. Huh?" Diana said as she sipped her coffee.

Heather was about to speak when there was a loud knock at the door. Raising her eyebrow, Diana moved to open the door but Fran ran and opened it first, however she wasn't expecting who was there. Opening the door wider there stood three men one which Diana knew for sure.

"Morning ladies. Is there a miss Diana here?" the older one with more facial hair spoke up.

Standing from her chair, Diana walked up to them men and watched as the other two then looked up at her. Fran and Heather watched as the men starred at her.

"I'm Diana. What can I do for you?'' Diana asked crossing her arms.

"Tommy, here she is." Arthur said moving aside as Tommy moved forward.

"You thought I wouldn't find you?" he said as his eyes met Diana's.

"Didn't think you would have reason to."

"Oh I have reason lass, now will you come willingly?"

Fran and Heather then looked at eachother shocked before turning back to look the Shelby's.

"Come where and for what reason?" Diana asked trying to stand her ground.

"Everyone's seen the papers even if its only a local paper. You helping him made yourself a target, we need to know what you know." Arthur said as she sighed.

"I already told the woman of the house, I don't know anything about any of you. He needed help so I helped him home. That's it end of story." Diana said as she pinched the bridge of her nose in annoyance.

"How did you know I had a son then?'' Tommy asked bringing up a good point.

"We saw you at the cemetery with him, he was either your son or nephew. I guessed." Diana shrugged.

That did make sense, she could have just assumed that the child he was holding was him. Arthur nodded his head in agreement thinking that there was a true possibility that would happen. Tommy however wasn't convinced. Instead he bent over and picked her up, putting her over his shoulder. Not really sensing any danger, Diana barely managed to sarcastically yell for help.

"Good day ladies, no worries, he won't kill her." Arthur said as they turned and left shutting the door behind them.

"Abigail is not going to like this..." Heather said looking to Fran who nodded in agreement.
