Chapter 28
"Um, yeah, I guess. Just a mild concussion." I answered, shrugging my shoulders.
He nodded and looked down at his bruised hands. I felt a growing ache in my body, feeling absolutely awful for being the reason Harry and Liam were no longer friends. For being the sole reason Harry, one of my good friends, was probably in pain right now; physically and mentally.
I started becoming very overwhelmed, realizing that I was the entire and only reason this stupid fight even started. I did this to myself. I'm the only one to blame for being in the hospital right now. It's my fault and my fault only.
"Diana?" Harry asked, pulling me back from my thoughts.
My heart monitor was racing and the bitchy nurse from earlier rushed back in, giving me a shot in the forearm that suddenly calmed me. The nurse left once again, taking her shit attitude with her and left Harry and me alone.
"What the hell just happened?" He demanded.
"It's nothing." I sighed, watching him carefully.
"Bullshit." He called me out, crossing his arms.
I glanced at him and then looked back down, grabbing my hair into a ponytail and pulling a hair tie around it.
"I just feel awful for being the reason that you and Liam fought and I'm not ready to read everything that the tabloids are saying and I'm scared and confused and I don't know what to do-"
Harry cut me off by grabbing my hand and squeezing it tightly. I missed him so much. I feel like I never got to see him anymore.
"Tell me what's been happening while I've been out." I mumbled, intertwining my fingers with Harry's.
"Zayn left."
"Zayn what?" I asked hoarsely, my voice cracking.
"He was done with the drama. He just didn't want to be involved anymore so he left. Now, between your accident and him we're all the tabloids have been talking about." He sighed, pushing back his long hair with his other hand.
"Harry." I whispered quietly, a realization overtaking me.
I don't know how I never really saw it before, but this whole time, Harry was the one who took care of me. He never stopped loving me no matter what I did or what I said. I always just imagined him as a second older brother but now my feelings for him were changing. I loved Harry in more ways than one. He stuck up for me when Liam broke me apart. He's defended me countless times when fans accused me off something. He was perfect.
"Yeah?" Harry asked, equally as quiet.
I swallowed the lump that had been building in my throat and mustered up some damn courage.
"I think-"
"Alright, hun, ready for the next one?"
You've got to be fucking kidding me.
How damn cliche.
"Can I just have a few more fucking minutes?" I growled, closing my eyes.
"Nope, we gotta start wrapping up these visits and I would appreciate it if you didn't direct such heinous words at me." The woman replied, matching my angry tone.
"Nevermind." I told Harry quietly, dropping my eyes in defeat.
Harry stood up and pressed a kiss to my temple, then he left without another word.
"Who else could possibly be here?" I demanded, pissed at the stupid lady.
The woman rolled her eyes at me and looked down the hallway.
"It appears to be a young lady, I'll go get her."
The door slammed shut, causing my head to pound even louder. A young lady? Who the shit could that be? I wasn't friends with girls, I hated them and their attitudes. Maybe my mom? I mean, the nurse said "young lady", but she was pretty damn old so I'm sure everyone was young to her at this point in time.
The door reopened and I looked expectantly at the old lady standing there again.
"Well?" I snapped, crossing my arms.
She stepped aside swiftly and the one person who I did not expect to see was standing behind her. I don't understand why she would show up here, did she want to get her ass kicked or something because I could help her out with that. How stupid could you possibly be?
"Diana, hey."
She sat down next to my bed, the plastic chair creaking when she leaned back. Instinctively, I leaned away from her and cringed.
"Can you please leave? Just get the hell away from me." I told her in disgust.
"Diana, I wanted to apologize." She insisted, trying to take my damn hand.
"Take your fake apology and shove it up your ass, Carol, I really don't want to hear it." I replied, ripping my hand out from under her bony fingers and crossing my arms.
I had already heard everything I needed to about this stupid situation. I didn't care anymore, I was moving onto bigger and better things. Maybe it was time that I cut Liam and all of his drama out of my life forever. I loved the other guys so much that I couldn't bear to lose them, so cutting out the band in general wasn't an option. I didn't need this anymore. All Liam ever did was break my heart again and again and I continued to fall for him. What was my damn problem? Why couldn't I just stand up for myself?
"I don't know what Liam told you, but I wanted to tell you my side of the story." Carol said, straightening up in the chair as if she was being filled up with more confidence.
"Isn't it all the same?"
"Not if he lied."
"Are you accusing him of lying to me?" I demanded, rolling my eyes at her.
"Will you just listen to me, please, Diana?" She pleaded, her blue eyes big.
I sighed loudly and waved my hand to signal for her to keep talking.
"It was mutual the first time that we slept together, we came back from this big party and he was driving and he just pulled over and started kissing me, so I went with it. After that, he came over a dozen times to tell me that he didn't want to be with you anymore and that he wanted to be with me and we would...well, you know." She stopped after this, taking a deep breath and closing her eyes. "Then, he came over almost everyday and I tried to make him stop, I even told him I didn't want to be with him if he wasn't going to break up with you and he would get so angry and throw things, telling me it wasn't my place to tell him that. He scared me Diana, so I stopped letting him in and eventually he stopped showing up trying to break down my door." Carol finished, letting out a breath and looking at me expectantly.
I swallowed and felt my eyes narrow in her direction. She's got to be fucking kidding me.
"And why should I believe you?" I asked skeptically.
"Diana, he had everything to lose! What do I have to lose?! Tell me, what could possibly happen to me if I told the truth?" She was getting frantic, her voice was getting higher.
My heart rate started to increase again, this time not as steadily and the bitchy nurse came rushing in. Carol stood up and flattened herself against the back wall.
I heard the nurse barking orders at Carol to leave and she vanished. The woman shoved a huge needle into my arm and forced me to take two pills.
Everything became blurry and my eyes closed tightly. My heart slowed and when I reopened my eyes, everyone was gone.
