Chapter 2

How could Liam Payne's parents move in next to us? We don't live in an amazing neighborhood. We don't have huge security gates to block out fans. And the number one thing that confused me: we live in America!

"Diana?" My mom knocked on my door.

"What?" I groaned, rolling over on my bed.

"Mr. and Mrs. Payne are coming by for dinner tomorrow." She told me.

"Whatever." I replied, sitting up and heading to my bathroom. I closed the door and turned on the sink.

"Diana, I'm talking to you." My mom seethed, knocking on the door.

"That's cool."

"I'm so fed up with your crap." She huffed. I could hear her turn around and slam my door.

I switched off the sink and walked back into my bedroom. I opened my bedroom window and tested for a steady tree branch.

"Time to get out of here." I whispered, putting on my high tops.

I climbed out of my window and cracked it behind me.

"What are you doing?"

I whipped around and the branch I was standing on cracked and fell. Before I knew it I was hitting the ground.

"Shit." I cursed, standing up and wiping some mud off my jeans.

"Diana?"

"Lucas?" I asked in disbelief.

Lucas is my brother. He joined the military about a year ago and we haven't seen him since. His once long, messy dark hair was gone and replaced with a short buzz cut. He looked bigger and stronger.

I ran up to him and gave him a hug.

"Nice hair." He laughed, lightly pulling my purple ponytail.

"Yours isn't too bad either." I replied, smiling.

"So where were you going?" Lucas asked, looking at the broken tree branch at the ground.

"I have no idea I just need to get away. How long have you been back in town?"

"Not even twenty minutes. I was getting my bags out when I saw you scaling that tree." He pointed.

"I have to go but cover for me okay?" I asked, giving him one last hug.

"Of course." He said.

I gave him a smile as I turned around and walked down the empty street. I had no idea where I was going and honestly I didn't care. I walked around the corner and onto the Main Street in town. Ice cream parlors and restaurants line the busy streets.

"Hey watch it!" I yelled as somebody slammed into my shoulder.

"Oh sorry." They said, extending their hand to help me up.

The person had their hood up but I could tell it was a boy by his voice.

"Who the hell are you?" I scoffed, pushing myself off the ground and rejecting his hand.

"Does it matter?" He replied, his hand swinging back to his side.

"Yeah it does."

A car passed and the headlights hit his structured face. He had short light brown hair and brown eyes. His face was friendly and open, his eyes happy. Suddenly this face became familiar.

"No freaking way. This is not happening now." I mumbled, pushing back the hair falling onto my face.

"What?" He wondered aloud, taking a step towards me.

"No. I just need to go home." I said, turning around and walking back towards home.

"What's you name?" He called.

"Diana."

"I'm Liam."

"I know." I frowned.

I kept walking and I heard footsteps behind me. After I turned onto my street I turned around.

"You aren't going to ask why I'm following you?" Liam asked.

"No." I snapped.

I found the tree I had climbed up earlier and began the journey to my window.

"It was nice meeting you." He said, smiling as I reached my window.

"Yeah whatever." I mumbled, climbing through my window and closing it back.

I heard loud, happy voices and the sound of glasses clinking coming from downstairs. I heard Lucas's loud laugh followed by my mothers stiff giggle. I rolled my eyes and pulled my shirt over my head before grabbing a tank top. I slipped off my shoes and jeans, and traded them for yoga pants and socks.

My phone vibrated on my bed stand and I glanced at the screen; four missed calls. All from Sam. I dialed the number I had been dialing for years and listened to five rings before he picked up.

"I've been trying to call you." Sam huffed.

"I see that. I was out sorry." I replied, pulling the hair tie out of my hair.

"I just wanted to find out if you were interested in going on a double date with my friend." He said.

"Oh hell no. I don't do double dates."

"Please? It will be awkward if it's just me, Caroline and him." Sam begged.

"Fine. When is it?" I sighed, getting myself ready to mess around on YouTube.

"Tomorrow at six. The small yogurt place on the corner." I could hear Sam smile through the phone.

"Okay. See you then." I said.

"Bye."

I opened up my laptop and pulled up Bethany Mota's account. I've watched Beth since I was 14 and ever since she's been my role model. She doesn't give a damn what anybody thinks of her and it's cool.

"Di?" Cassidy whispered, poking her head in my room.

"Yeah, Cass?" I replied, pausing a recent haul video from Beth.

"Can I sit in here with you? Mommy and daddy are arguing again and Lucas went up to his room." She said, twisting a small blanket in her equally small hands.

"Sure." I smiled patting the bed next to me.

I might look intimidating on the outside but when it comes to my sister and brother I'm like a puppy. I hate it.

"You want to know a secrect?" I whispered to my four year old sister.

"Oh yeah." Cass giggled.

I lifted the side of my tank top to reveal a swirl of black ink.

"It's a dandelion." I told her, as her cold fingers traced the fuzz blowing away.

"Does mommy know?" She asked, still immersed with my tattoo.

"No. Don't tell her okay?" I replied, letting my shirt fall back into place.

"Can we watch Nemo?" Cassidy pleaded, her blue eyes enlarged.

"Of course."

"I pick this one." Cassidy said, pointing at a deep red sweater.

"I kinda like this one." I replied, showing her my grey Nirvana muscle tank.

"No, no, no." She shook her head.

"Fine, but I don't look good in red." I gave in.

I pulled the sweater on and Cassidy handed me a pair of dark wash jeans. I grabbed my signature black boots and checked my makeup one last time.

"I like your hair the best." Cassidy remarked.

I lightly touched my French braided purple hair and gave her a hug.

"See ya' later kid." I said, walking downstairs.

I wandered around until the small yogurt place came into veiw. I pulled out my phone to call Sam and verify he was there.

"You there yet?" I asked.

"Yeah but apparently your date likes to eat behind the yogurt place so we're waiting for you." Sam said, his mouth full with yogurt.

I hung up and turned the corner to the back of the building. Caroline and Sam were sitting in some chairs left out back and, who I guessed was my date, had his back to me.

"Hey Diana!" Sam waved.

The other guy turned around and I felt myself blink.

"Nice to see you again." He smiled.

"You two have met?" Caroline asked.

"Yeah. Liam's parents live two doors down." I replied.
