52. The Final Step

After her talk with Jimin, Jiah had felt a wave of certainty, relief, comfort wash over her. The past few days seemed so alleviating, and she wouldn't have traded it for the world. She was growing happier where she was in life - and that was something she'd never experienced before.

One more step and it'll all be over.

"Noona!" a voice snapped her back into reality, and she looked up to see a ball flying right to her face.

Luckily, her reflexes weren't for nothing, as she flung her arms out in front of her and caught it.

"Ji Young! A little warning!"

"We're playing a game!" he whined, "No one yells 'Hey, I'm about to throw the ball to you' in a game!"

"Still!" she huffed, tilting her chin up at him, "That was rude."

"Can you just shoot," he groaned, and she turned away. Hormones.

Jiah raised her arms, taking a full three seconds to aim for the hoop before letting the ball go.

Watching as it took off, arching down right to the backboard and she bit her lip waiting for it to pass through the orange rim, except that it continued to pass over the board and ended up on the court behind it.

A wicked laugh erupted from behind her, and she couldn't help but send him a threatening glare, one to which he just continued to chortle.

"You suck at basketball, noona!"

"I know I do, jerk," she scoffed as he was coming back from retrieving the ball, "I only play with you for you to practice, geez."

"I know, I know," his voice grew louder, and she wanted to turn to see what he was doing, but it was too late. He had already run up to her and jumped on her back, circling his arms around her neck and squeezing.

It took her a couple of seconds to wobble on her feet before balancing him properly on top of her, clutching him by his thighs.

"You might be my little brother, but you still weigh a ton," she let out, pretending to lose her breath.

But he didn't buy it, "And you're my badass older sister who's probably stronger than half the men your own age."

"Ugh," she heaved, feeling him slip off and sit down on the courts, "You're lucky I love you."

And as soon as she said it, her eyes widened, panic flashing over her face as she quickly glanced his way to check if he'd heard.

His expression mirrored hers, wide eyes and a hint of surprise glimmered over it.

"What?"

She felt her visage soften as she slumped down next to him, "I do, and I'm sorry I haven't said it enough... or said it at all. I'm so proud of the amazing man you're becoming, and the fact that you always learn from your mistakes.

"I'm so proud that you don't make any excuses for your actions, you own every single one of them. I'm so proud of the hard work you put into your studies and basketball. You're a fantastic child, and I'm sure mom and dad would have been so proud of you, Ji Young. It's too bad they're not here to tell you that.

"I just know they're up there looking down at you with the cheesiest grin. And I'll tell you on behalf of them; we all love you immensely."

Ji Young never really cried, she'd never seen him do it. But she could have sworn she saw a wisp of a tear trace down the side of his face just before he sent her his radiant smile.

"I love you too, noona. And I'm sorry for saying you suck at basketball."

She raised an eyebrow at him, a couple of seconds passed as they sat, basking in each other's presence.

The silence quickly being replaced with hysterical laughter.

"I'm not actually sorry; you really do suck."

--

"Two more days," the Director announced, pacing up and down their hideout.

"Two more days and this will all finally be over," Jungkook let out a sigh of relief with his eyes dancing over Taehyung's shoulder to glance over at Jimin. So fast, no one caught him, "I can't wait."

"So what was the plan again? So that we have it down."

"Taehyung's first. He approaches the guards at the entrance to the warehouse, telling them that he's found out that they'd been using his company to store their assets, to transport their drugs. I'm one-hundred-percent sure they won't know shit about that, and so Taehyung should then ask if he could speak to their boss. They won't comply at first, but if you ask enough times, they will take you to him.

"Jiah, you follow closely behind, it won't be too hard because they'll be preoccupied with what Taehyung had just told them. Make sure they don't see you - because then they might figure us out. Worst case scenario and they do see you, just discreetly tell them you're trying to take Taehyung to the boss because he found you out.

Now, while they're gone from the entrance, us three will run in and look for where they're keeping the girls. Our part's simple, we will have to knock out a couple of guards before letting them out. When we do, I'll go back to the entrance to make sure it's clear and let you know through our earpieces, and you guys lead them through.

Jiah, Taehyung, you both make sure you're listening in on the earpieces to bolt when we tell you we're safe, too, okay?"

They all nodded.

"Is this finally it?" Taehyung let out the breath he didn't know he was holding, "This is it, isn't it?"

"Yep. This is it," Jungkook's eyes bored into the floor.

"Are you ready, Crown?" Jiah grinned, watching her best friend's gaze rise from the ground and meet hers.

A small smile appeared on his lips as well; eyes darkening in an instant.

"Always, Shadow."

"Wait," Jimin coughed, trying to break their conversation. "Why does it sound like y'all are having some deep telepathic conversation there? What am I missing? What's Shadow and Crown?"

"Our code names," Jiah shrugged, "I haven't called him that in ages."

"Oooh, can we get some too!"

"You guys have some," Jungkook muttered, fiddling with his thumbs.

Taehyung cocked an eyebrow at him, "We do?"

"Yeah, yours is Diamond."

"Diamond, eh?" he turned to Jiah, and when their eyes met, she somehow was sent back in time.

They were alluring, and seemed to hold her gaze despite only being a picture. They glistened brightly, cold and metallic, rivalling the most excellently polished suit of armour. The sclerae that surrounded them were pristine, untouched by red. They were pure. They were cold. They were beautiful. They were much like-

"Diamond," her words came out, but her eyes never left his.

She shook her head at the cheeky smirk playing at his lips. He absolutely loved it when she would gush over his eyes.

"What's mine?" Jimin jumped in his seat, much like a puppy waiting for food to be set in front of him.

Both Taehyung and Jiah would be lying if they said they didn't see the pout that donned Jungkook's lips.

"Saturn," Jiah said proudly, "Jungkook made it."

"He did?" he looked genuinely surprised, while Jungkook looked like he wished he could dig a hole right there and then to jump into.

Hand my heart to him on a silver platter, will you?

"Saturn," Jungkook had said, seeming to notice everything she had as well. For when Jimin's eyebrows were furrowed the way they were in the picture, these bands seemed to look like little storms, swirling in the abyss of his eyes. Much like the oval-shaped storms of Saturn.

Jimin looked like he wished to ask a ton more questions, but Jungkook pushed that idea away.

"Okay! So I better get some beauty sleep," he declared, "I'm heading home, Jiah you coming with? No? Okay, see you guys later," he turned from the four who were still seated as he went for the door.

"Did he just ask me a question and then answer it himself?" Jiah asked, looking at Taehyung.

"I believe he did, yeah," he nodded, smiling at their antics.

"Wait, Jungkook! I'm coming with," Jimin jumped up and grabbed his coat.

And when Jungkook heard that, it only made him speed up.

"It's okay, Jimin. I'm going to take my motor-"

"I'll drive c'mon."

Something in Jimin's tone made Jungkook freeze and turn around. Only to find that he was only inches away.

"This is technically your property, right? Surely you can leave your motorcycle for one night? I'll take you home."

"If they don't realise they literally look at each other with heart eyes, I don't know what hope there is for them," Taehyung whispered to Jiah while watching the scene.

"O-Okay," Jungkook managed to let out as he scratched the back of his neck, "I-I'll come with you."

"Bye, guys!" Jimin turned to wave, and that made Taehyung jump away from sitting so close to Jiah. He didn't want his friend to catch him whispering about him - even if it was about something as evident as his liking to Jungkook.

"Bye Jimin," Taehyung winked, and mouthed 'go get him'. To which Jimin only shook his head, mouth forming the words 'shut up' before leaving the hideout after Jungkook had.

"Well, I guess that's also my cue to get on outta here," the Director hopped up, throwing hands into his pockets, "I'll see you guys soon."

"See you, and thank you so much for everything you're doing."

"No need to thank me. Thank you, honestly. I wouldn't have ever been able to finish what Hoseok and I started without you all."

She felt her heart lurch at the mention of his name. A small sense of warmth churned within her ribcage, and she could only wince at the feeling.

"I'm sure he would be so happy with all you've done. So, thank you."

He had finally left not so long after, Jiah and Taehyung being the only ones in the old home.

After the door shut, an eerie silence started to fill the room, crawling up their arms and finding home in their minds.

"Hey," he whispered as he tried to push it away, "You okay, sweetheart?"

She looked up at him, pursing her lips together, "Hoseok, man, I miss him."

Nodding, he walked to her in two steady strides, wrapping his arms around her. Leaning into him, she nestled her head into his chest, hooking her arms over his back and resting her hands on his shoulders.

"Thank you, Taehyung, I guess just knowing this will all be coming to an end soon is making me miss him so much more." A sigh, "I wish he was here to see it."

"Me too," he spoke into her hair, "But, sweetheart, you are so strong for pushing with all you've gone through. I'm so proud of you."

"I love you," she whispered, bending back a little, to get a better view of him, "So much."

"I know," he nuzzled his nose against hers, before placing a small kiss at its tip, finding her close her eyes at the touch. His soft kisses traced her cheek, to her ear where he stopped to whisper, "I love you too."

She could have sworn all the hairs on her body stood up, and on instinct her hands clenched tighter to his shoulders where she dropped them and found they started to dance on the small of his back, slipping under his shirt and continuing up against his skin.

"Are you sure you want to do this here?" a low growl left his throat, and it was enough to ignite a fire in the bottom of her stomach.

"Unless you're too tame to," she tried to tease, but his reply only made her weaker.

His eyes somehow seemed to darken ten shades, leaning in. "I've been called a lot of things, but tame has never been one of them. Care to find out why?"

"There's a bedroom," she tore from him, panting slightly, "Jungkook has a key, he could easily walk in on us here."

"How exciting," he joked, and she shook her head. Leaning forward, he grabbed under her thighs to wrap them around his waist as he carried her. "M'lady, could you point in the direction of this bedroom?"

Sticking her thumb out to the right, Jiah took advantage of her new position as she planted butterfly kisses on his forehead, down to his ear, stopping and taking it between her lips.

Taehyung gently placing her on the single bed, watching as she arched back, such deep admiration evident in his eyes that she couldn't help but reciprocate.

As he leaned down to capture her lips in another kiss, the pendant which hung from his neck dangled over her head, and she gazed at it.

Taehyung noticed, observing as she watched it swing back and forth; she was entranced.

He knew he turned into a lovesick puppy around her, he would forever be infatuated with her. His lips drew back to a dreamy smile. God, she is so beautiful.

Pulling back, he sat down on the bed and reached over behind his head.

Jiah furrowed her lips, getting up to sit cross-legged and face him.

"You okay?"

He nodded, unclipping the hook and let the metal chain fall into the palm of his hand.

"Yeah," looking up at her, "You can have it."

"What?"

"Yeah, I want you to have it."

"Taehyung-"

"Whenever I used to date around, I would shower women with gifts, and take them out to eat at the finest restaurants. I guess I was overcompensating for the love I couldn't give.

"But I realised I never did that with you. I never got to give you even a plain piece of jewellery."

Her eyes turned into crescents, one hand cupping his cheek, "Taehyung, you know I don't care for that stuff."

He shook his head, opening the necklace and draping it around her neck, clasping the hook at the back.

"I know, but I want you to have it, please?"

"Okay, okay," she chuckled as he sloped back, looking down at the silver infinity symbol now hanging from her neck. "I didn't know you were the type who would willingly buy this kinda stuff for yourself."

Sighing, he shook his head, "I'm not. It was limited edition, and the designer was my friend back then, so I decided to buy it."

"Right, right," Jiah nodded, "I mean, I would definitely spend thousands of dollars on jewellery I wouldn't particularly buy on any other occasion, out of goodwill for my friends."

His eyes turned alight, narrowing in on Jiah, "Are you making fun of me?"

"No, of course no- Yeah, a little bit."

"Oh, you're going to wish you hadn't-" he laughed, lunging forward and wrapping his arm around her in one swift movement, pulling her onto his lap.

Fingers tickling around her sides, they laughed together, bringing cheery music back to the home that had been silent for too long.

They were so ready to love each other for the rest of their lives, heck, for the rest of eternity.

--

"So you had already associated me with Saturn before we even met," Jimin spoke after a good minute of silence. "Interesting."

"It was just the first thing that came to mind, okay?" Jungkook huffed out his reply, "It was ages ago."

"And you got a tattoo of Saturn after it as well," he seemed to be having fun with the conversation, while Jungkook wouldn't dare tear his eyes from the window for fear that he'd see the intense blushing biting at his cheeks.

"I think it's cool, really," Jimin told him, "That we have matching tattoos. I hope you're not embarrassed that you share it with me, luckily mine isn't visible."

"No!" he was quick to deny the fact, "Never! I'd never be... embarrassed." Jungkook lost volume as he said the last part, realising he sounded a bit too enthusiastic about the matter.

"Alright," chuckling, Jimin decided to turn their attention to the days to come. "So, you ready to be disowned by the mafia? That's a big feat, I reckon; getting shunned by the biggest criminals in the country. Good job."

Jungkook snorted, "I'm just excited for it all to be over."

"Yeah?" Jimin nodded in understanding, "You don't think you'll miss it? It's been your entire life; you might even be disowned by your father."

He loved how Jimin could remember all the little things he'd bring up in conversation, no matter how long ago they'd talked. He seemed to really care.

"I don't care," he meant it, "I have better things to look forward to after."

"You do, huh? Like what?"

He froze, a lump of anxiety suddenly sitting in the back of his throat.

"Uh," back to fiddling with his thumbs, Jungkook looked down. "Nothing."

"What? You can't just do that. What were you going to say?"

"Uhm, you'll uh... you'll find out."

"I will? What? What's that supposed to mean?"

"I'll tell you," he promised, "After it's all over, I will tell you. For now, I'll focus on the real issues at hand. I will tell you though, don't you worry."

"Okay," Jimin was back to his cheesy grin, causing Jungkook to release another sigh of relief. "Can't wait."

"Me too."

--

The day finally came, Taehyung and Jiah arrived at their hideout in his car, Jungkook on his motorcycle and Jimin and the Director on their own as well. Walking out of their vehicles, they headed for the run-down house, knowing exactly what to do.

Jiah went straight for the cabinet storing their weapons, walking right through the living room. A soft whimper escaped her as she shut her eyes at the memory bubbling back to her in the corner of her mind.

"Okay, let's get this over and done with," she sighed, jumping up and pulling her blouse over her head, to which Hoseok let out a very high pitched scream.

"Oh my God, Hoseok, someone's gonna think there's a girl being kidnapped in here!"

"H-How can you just take your clothes off like that? J-Jiah can you give a guy some warning!" he yelped, "Jungkook! H-How are you okay with this?"

"She does this all the time Hoseok, you should probably learn to get used to it."

She turned to look at them over her shoulder, a small smile creeping on her lips. Taking her black bodysuit off the top shelf, she faced them fully. "Alright, you two look away now before you scream again when I take my pants off."

"Okay, that I want to see," Jungkook teased, licking his lips and Hoseok screeched again, jumping off his chair and running to the couch to cover Jungkook's eyes with his own hands,

"Don't look!"

A sad smile pulled at her lips as she grabbed some firearms for herself and for the rest of the group before joining the rest of them back at the entrance.

Scanning them all, she made a mental check that they all had what they needed. Fire torch, blueprints, walkie talkies.

They were good to go.

The Director set out in a large van, one which they all hoped was enough for however many people Kkangpae were holding captive.

And so, with Jiah and Taehyung in one car and Jungkook and Jimin in another, they drove to the warehouse.

The final step.
