Morgan's Pov

It was Thursday and Shelby hated me. How did I know? she stopped looking at me, talking to me, and eating with me at lunch. I don't blame her. I didn't give her any warning signs that I was okay and alive. Probably because I jumped into freezing cold water so my phone was fucked. 

Anyways that's not the point. Thursday was the day the van came to pick us up. It was almost time. I had just finished putting away my tray when I felt a rough hand grab my shoulder. Josh. He nodded at the door and I nodded back and followed him over to where Shelby was already checking out. She saw me and gave me a glare. This car ride was going to be the most uncomfortable thing in the history of car rides.

We checked out and we went to the van getting in. I sat next to Josh because Shelby decided to sit in a spot where nobody could sit next to her. It was extremely awkward. I had to bunch up in a tiny ball so that way I wouldn't have to accidentally touch Josh. That was until we hit something and we launched out of our seats. Did I mention this van had no seatbelts? 

Josh looked up front confused as Shelby rubbed her head because her head was laying on the window when we hit whatever it was. I was rubbing my chin since I just fell out of my seat. I looked up and Josh stormed out of the van to the front. I stood up going with him. The car hood was smoking and it was almost sunset. Josh growled as he opened up the hood and looked around.

"Son of a bitch." He yelled slamming the hood making me jump. "Car's screwed. We need to find out another way to get back." That was when he walked over to the front car door and opened it pulling a pistol out of his pocket and shot the driver in cold blood splattering it all over the front window as he glared at the now dead driver. I looked at him shocked but I kept my cool. I mean come on this was a criminal group. 

"How long would it take to walk?" I asked. Josh looked at me and glared as he put his gun away.

"Do you really think we are going to walk there? We are miles away from where our meet-up is." He said. 

"Look around us, Josh. We are in the middle of nowhere with no stores within a 5-mile radius. and It's going to get dark soon. Eventually, our car will run out of gas meaning we will have no heat throughout the night. I say we take our chances walking." I said. Josh looked at me considering what I said. 

"I'm calling a back-up car." He said and he put his hand to his ear. "Requesting a new van. we hit something and the car is screwed. Smoke is coming up and it won't move." He said. I heard it through my earpiece. 

"Okay. We can send a van over to your location in 5 hours." The person over the speaker said. I cursed. 

"The car will run out of gas before then." I murmured. Josh looked at me. 

"Is there any way we can get another van sooner?" He said sighing getting more irritated. 

"I'm afraid the 5-hour van is the closest one available right now." The person said. They were new. I could tell because they sounded young and scared. Josh sighed.

"Fine. Get it here fast." He said and he lifted his hand up. "Stay in the car while we wait. None of you are freezing to death on my watch." 

Without hesitation, I got back inside the van and sat in the back in a corner. Josh came in a shut the door hoping to keep as much heat in as physically possible. Shelby looked at him silently asking him what was going on. 

"The van is screwed. we have to wait 5 hours until the back-up can get here." He said. Shelby groaned in annoyance. 

"This day is just getting better," she said. "I had to become a stupid criminal, and then I had to be in a car with Morgan. And now this?" She said. Josh looked at her and growled lifting her up and slamming her against the window holding her collar. I heard her yelp and the window cracked a bit. 

"Do you ever shut up?" he said glaring at her and Shelby looked at him in fear. I looked at Josh worried. 

"Josh. Put her down." I said. He growled. 

"Stay out of this thief." He said putting emphasis on thief. I stood up. 

"Josh," I said warningly. "Put. Her. Down." He pulled her away from the door.

"Shut up already!" He yelled and he went to slam her again.

"Joshua I swear to god if you do not put her down right now I will come over there!" I yelled. He paused and he slowly put her down. He looked at me with a death glare. 

"What did you just call me?" He asked. His breathing was heavy and his face was beginning to turn red and his hands shook and clenched. 

"You heard me," I growled. "Leave her alone." within seconds I was grabbed and shoved into the other window hearing it beginning to break and I yelped in pain. 

"Don't call me that." He growled. "It's Josh." I looked at him and Shelby chuckled a bit in the background. He set me down after giving me a death glare for about 5 minutes. Suddenly the van began making clunking noises and sputtering. Josh cursed and suddenly it went dead silent. The van had run out of gas, and it was nighttime. 

"well. I hope you guys have blankets." Shelby said and I looked at her with the 'Really?' look. 

I moved away from Josh and went back into the corner and I stayed there. He watched me sitting down and Shelby sat down in the exact spot where she sat at the beginning of the ride.

It had been around an hour. The car temperature had dropped quickly as soon as it died. It was well below 30 right now. I shivered and looked over at Josh who had his eyes closed and he shivered just a bit. My teeth were chattering and I heard a sigh and Josh abruptly stood up. He stared at me for a moment. 

"Make room." He said. I looked at him confused.

"I'm sorry what?" I asked confused and he growled coming over to me and he grabbed my shoulders moving me and then he sat down next to me. 

"Your teeth chattering is irritating. I'm going to warm you up." He said. He stayed beside me keeping me warm the best he could. I was still shivering and my teeth were still chattering. I closed my eyes looking down while curling in a ball and suddenly his arms wrapped around me pulling me close to him making my eyes shoot open and I looked at him.

"You won't be useful to me if you've frozen to death." He said.  I stared at him for a while and then I looked forward and gently leaned my head on his shoulder. He tensed a bit but then he slowly relaxed a little bit but not entirely. Slowly, I felt him stop shivering and then I followed suit. Shelby looked at us and she scoffed. 

"This is why I always have my coat on me." She rolled her eyes. Josh glared at her and Shelby shut up. I smirked just slightly and I stayed with Josh not moving. Eventually After around 2 hours of just waiting he started nodding off. 

"You tired?" I asked him and he tried his best to glare at me but he was exhausted and he didn't do well. I very gently wrapped my arms around him and pulled him close to me and he growled quietly. "You're tired and sleeping upright isn't comfortable. Now, you are either going to have to stay awake, or use my shoulder as a pillow." I said. Thankfully he wasn't much taller than me yet. around 5'7 at the most. I was 5'4.

He sighed and he carefully rested his head on my shoulder closing his eyes gently. I held him as gently as I could so that way he could have some heat. His breathing slowed and his body relaxed and I knew then, that he as asleep.

The back-up van didn't come for another few hours and when it did Shelby got in faster then I had ever seen her move before. So much for her coat. I carefully woke up Josh and I helped him up. He let me guide him into the van and he got more alert fast tensing back up. He was more professional and he looked at the driver. 

"ETA?" He asked. The driver looked at him.

"Only around 2 hours sir." He shut a window that connected them both and we began driving off. Josh sighed and sat back down next to me. 

"You both should be getting your first job soon here." He said. Shelby looked at him confused.

"First job?" She asked tilting her head just slightly. 

"Assignment. You'll be tasked with stealing something since you both have the mark of the thief." He said. Shelby cursed.

"Yeah. Thanks to Morgan." She growled and I looked at her and glared. She glared right back and Josh scooted over away from us shaking his head.

"I work with children." He murmured.
