Chapter 10: Flood
Morgan's Pov
I woke up in the middle of the night with pains going through my face sharply. I groaned sitting up and I managed to wobble down to the bathroom and look in the mirror. I saw my right eye swollen shut and the area around my split lip swollen. My cheeks were also slightly swollen but not as bad as my lip and eye were.
I put the rag under the cold water and put it over my face again and sighed. This was not easy to take care of at the slightest. I decided to take a walk. I walked out and almost tripped over my sister and Shelby who were on the floor. My sister had tear stains down her cheeks as well as Shelby. I carefully stepped over them and outside my room.
It was pitch black. I forgot what day it was. I didn't mind that though. I walked around the halls as quietly as I could. I passed the cafeteria and my stomach growled. My body stopped on its own and then turned into the kitchen area. It walked around for a bit but found no special leftovers. I opened the fridge and found an apple taking that.
I ate it slowly as I walked out of the kitchen and I managed to get on the deck of the ship. As I walked around outside I listened to the sounds of the waves hitting the ship gently and the wind hitting my face. I threw my apple core overboard considering it wasn't pollution and I sat down gently on the floor. I closed my eyes letting the cold air hit me. I heard the door behind me slowly open and I opened my eyes again, my peace being disturbed.
"What do you want?" I asked. I turned around and saw Josh looking at me confused.
"I'm just here to see who was sneaking around at midnight. Case solved." He said plainly. I sighed and we stared at each other for a moment before I turned away and I laid down gently closing my eyes and he came over to me sitting down. He was silent for a bit but I knew he was looking at my face. "You're hurt."
"Got beat up when I went to get dinner," I said. "Damn guy was pretty strong. But all guys have a weakness and I used that to my advantage." I smirked and he shivered beside me.
"I need to clean your face up. It's swollen." He said and he stood up carefully and I sat up sighing. He gently put a hand on my back being mindful of my new brand and he helped me up. He helped me to his room and he had me sit on the edge of his bed. He grabbed a white and red box from across the room and he looked at me. "You need to be more careful." He said.
"I'm aware of that fact," I said sighing afterward and I ran my hands down my face stressed and he gently moved my hands away from my face. He gently got a cotton ball full of alcohol and began gently cleaning my face. I winced when he cleaned my lip a bit but he didn't pull back. He just kept focussing on making sure any cuts I had on my face were okay.
When he was starting to put away the Med-Kit, A loud bang was heard right as the ship launched forward and bit and I was launched off the bed and Josh fell over. I heard creaking and I groaned sitting up.
"What the hell was that?" I asked. I looked at Josh and he was already getting up and running to the door. I followed him as fast as I could move. He got out and multiple people were already peaking their heads out to see what happened. Josh motioned with his hands.
"everyone to the Lifeboats just in case!" He yelled. A crowd of people began running past us and he tried to make me join the crowd but I held onto his arm.
"I'm not leaving you. Let me help." I said. He looked at me unsure.
"You need to get out of here. now!" He yelled. I growled.
"I will not leave you, Josh," I said. he looked at me as if debating and he groaned in annoyance and he ran forwards the opposite of the crowd holding my wrist to my room and he slammed his hand on the door waking Shelby and my sister.
"Lifeboats! get to the lifeboats!" Josh yelled loudly and Shelby quickly got up helping my sister and they ran out like a bat out of hell. I followed Josh but he was still going a different way.
"Where are we going?" I asked as we began going downstairs.
"I need to see what happened. We should not have docked already." He yelled. His voice echoed in the halls. We kept running down halls down at least 7 stairs and we finally find the problem. A latch on the wall that holds the ship had come loose and was spilling water in fast. We could see and hear it 3 more floors down. He curses and he got onto the railing letting go of me and he dived.
"Josh!" I screamed. He splashed into the water as I leaned over the railing looking into the water that was rising. He swam to the surface gasping.
"Morgan! Get to the lifeboats!" He yelled. I growled again.
"I told you I wouldn't leave you!" I yelled. He yelled up loudly slapping the water.
"Morgan! Use your brain for once and go to the fucking lifeboats! I'm not asking again!" I looked at him and I shook my head.
"then don't. Because I am not leaving you." I said calmly and he cursed loudly slamming his hand on the water again.
"Fine! Then wait there while I try to close this damn latch!" He yelled and he took a deep breathe diving under water. I watched him swim to the latch and pull at it trying to turn it. He swam up for water while struggling and I cursed. I looked around for the stairs and I began running down them so I could be a floor lower to see better. When I got to the next floor down the water below was only just building upon the one below.
"Josh!" I yelled out. Josh looked at me panting. he motioned for me to go and I shook my head. "What can I do to help?" I asked. He looked at me.
"I-I don't know." He sounded almost helpless. I looked around and I saw an emergency ax on the wall in case of fires. I ran to it slamming my shoulder into the glass to break it. I yelped feeling some glass stab me and cut my shirt a bit but I didn't mind it at the very moment. I grabbed the ax and I went to the railing and dropped it in the water.
He swam to it and grabbed it and he dove underwater again. He slammed the metal part of it into the lever and tried everything he could to turn it. It wouldn't budge. He kept trying and trying until the lever broke. he slammed his fist onto the lever and he went to try and swim up but he noticed he was stuck. he cursed and tried to get free.
I sprinted down the other flight of stairs to the water that was building. when I saw that Josh was weakening. I quickly took my jacket off and dove into the water and swam beside him. I grabbed his leg that was caught in the lever and I gently helped free him by pulling. his pants ripped a bit at the bottom but Josh was unconscious at this time. I swam him up as fast as I could and to the stairs. It was freezing but I didn't care. He was my only concern.
"Josh? Josh, can you hear me?" I asked. His eyes were closed and he wasn't breathing as he should. I gently positioned my hands over his chest and began performing CPR. "Come on. Come on I won't let you die on me. Not today." I said gently. Water gently came out of his mouth. I just kept going until he coughed and sputtered and spit out water.
The water was covering quite a bit of him already. I gently and slowly moved him to a sitting position and I wrapped my arms around him gently. He didn't move to stop me. He just stayed not moving in my arms.
"Don't. do that. again." I said. He nodded gently and he began shivering. I looked around and I went over to my jacket grabbing it and I wrapped it around Josh. I gently wrapped one of his arms around my shoulders and we slowly walked up the stairs. "come on. you got this Josh." I said gently. we got up 5 flights before his legs gave out and he collapsed causing me to slightly fall to my knees.
"Josh, breathe. you can do this." I said. He shook his head and I grabbed his chin making him face me. " Yes. You. Can. Now get your butt up and let's get you to a lifeboat." I said. He cursed under his breath and he slowly stood up with me. We kept walking. We got to the original floor and Josh was about to pass out. "You're so close. come on." I said.
The hallway seemed endless. we made it out and people were boarding the lifeboats. I quickly brought Josh over to one that was almost done and they helped him on and then me. This boat wasn't very filled quite yet. I looked at Josh as he shivered and I gently rubbed his arms creating friction to warm him.
"what happened to you two?" I heard a deep voice say in front of us. I looked up. Donovan. He smirked.
"we went down to try and fix the problem. The water was cold." I said. Josh kept shivering and I looked at him concerned. "It'll be okay. We'll be safe soon." I whispered. He gently laid down on the stool that was in the boat and he rested his head on my lap. He was out like a light. I moved just enough so I could rest my back against the lifeboat and I gently fell asleep with him.
