Devotion #9 - Prayer

2/28/2021

Prayer is easily the most important thing to do in church but what does it mean exactly? Does anyone really know how to pray right? The answer would be not really as most prayers are usually what my dad calls 'cookie-cutter prayers' and I don't think that is something God would want us to do. Praying during meal times is easy as we can ask God to bless our food but the scripture verse in Matthew 6:9-13 shows us a different way to pray during meals, including on Thanksgiving Day. All God asks us to do is take a little bit of time out of our busy schedule and use our prayer time to talk to Him. Talking to God is like talking with our consciences and we can use our conscience to determine the difference between right and wrong and use the common sense that God has given us. However, praying to God is on a new level. There is even a scripture on what we are supposed to do before praying. 2 Chronicles 7:14 - 'If my people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My Face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land'. Simple, humble yourself before God and seek His forgiveness with all your heart, all your body, all your mind, and all your soul. Do that and your prayer can be heard. There is another step one must take when praying to God, we must get on our knees and pray with a clear mind in order to allow God to hear us when we pray. My dad preached about it at the church and it was well received by everyone around us. If we humble ourselves and lay ourselves down on our hands and knees before God in prayer, then we are truly praying to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

Amen
