Devotion #76 - God the Master

Slavery, a word that people rarely throw around for fear of offending black people. Well, guess what, white people used to be slaves as well. The Israelites were slaves in Egypt who endured hard labor and were forced to watch as their baby boys were thrown into the Nile River for the crocodiles to eat. It may be hard to hear but everyone has a Master in this world and that Master is God Himself. Think about it, in Matthew 6:24 Scripture says, "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." God is not a hard master or one that we can all hate, He is a loving master. He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, into our world and died on the cross for us so that we may become saved through Him and establish a relationship with the Lord. God is both Master and Father to us. He cares about us and wishes to use our gifts and talents to further expand His Kingdom and save more people in this world. He is a loving and doting God and cares about us all the way. The slave masters in Egypt didn't care if an Israelite died on the spot of where he or she stood. They certainly didn't care about the Israelite mothers crying out in agony as their baby boys were thrown into the river. Slavery may not exist anymore in America but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be forgotten because at one point or another, we have all gone through an existence of slavery to sin. Heck, there are still slaves out there being sold for a high price in the traffic market. Only by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior are we freed from that slavery to sin and given a chance to work under God the Father to expand both His Kingdom and your life as a Christian. In Christianity, we are all free people and we serve only one Master: God. No one else. Not even the idols of this world.

Amen
