Devotion #32 - A Solid foundation leads to a Solid Relationship with Christ
5/16/2021
'On Christ the Solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand. All other ground is sinking sand.' Lyrics from a hymnal that we have sang this morning and what a thought on how I would be reading a verse from Luke 6 that had the same meaning. Not a coincidence with God repeating that song in my head while reading this verse. I think it's time we knew the meaning behind the Solid Rock and Sinking Sand. In Luke 6:47-49, the scripture says, "Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great." That was the ESV version of the scripture and it explains a whole lot of what we are trying to do in this world. To lay a solid foundation, we need to have an intimate relationship with God but when we have a sinking foundation, we just have an okay relationship with God and God does not like that. To quote a favorite saying from War Room, 'God don't want you to be lukewarm like your coffee.' I love that movie and the woman who said it is right about one thing. God doesn't want an okay relationship with you. That is the one thing that allows the Devil to come into your life and ruins it for the worst. The Devil makes it get so bad that you start blaming God for your problems and turn away from Him. God doesn't want that, He wants to have an intimate relationship with you! He wants to talk to you every single day, He wants you to listen to Him, He wants you to hear Him when you're doing something wrong. He wants you to be His Child. He wants you to be close to Him. Having a solid foundation plants the Word of God into our hearts and allows us to shine brightly in this world of darkness. Bring about your light and show everyone your relationship with Christ is the #1 thing you have on your mind day in and day out. Love God and all that He has given up for you. He is your Father in Heaven and is waiting for you to call Him. Pray to Him, talk with Him, and meditate on Him.
Amen
