Devotion #15 - Are you Ordinary?
3/17/2021
Ordinary people. That is what the world thinks of all of us. But what does God think of us as? The answer is simple: He thinks of us as His children who can do extraordinary things if we let Him into our lives. Think about the people in the bible like Esther, Noah, Rahab, Ruth, Joseph, and more. They were all ordinary people who stood in the line of fire alone and did God's Will. That, in turn, allowed them to be known as extraordinary people and became part of the Bible while four of them became a lineage of Christ as a reward for their good deeds. Joseph's brother, Judah, was a direct link to the lineage of Christ and since Joseph was Judah's younger brother, you could say that he was an ancient uncle of Christ's lineage. Anyway, these people mentioned in the Old Testament were just ordinary people who were given extraordinary tasks and completed them when they put their complete faith in God to help them. Ruth was a Moab and she did not believe in God but she was willing to go with Naomi to help care for her mother-in-law for the rest of her days in a town she did not know of. Rahab stood against all her people in her city by hiding the two spies sent by Joshua to spy on Jericho to allow them to take it over and bring down its walls. Esther stood against the death of her people by going to see the King without him calling for her. Noah stood out against a crowd of sinners and was told to build an ark to save himself, his family and the animals God sends to him. Joseph was a dreamer that stood against the oppression of slavery in Egypt and God used him to minister to others and was promoted to a governing position. Still think of yourself as a nobody who doesn't deserve God's forgiveness or mercy? Think of these people mentioned earlier, they were nobodies who God used to save His people in both the past and today. Esther was an orphan, Joseph was sold into slavery, Rahab was a prostitute, Moses was raised as an Egyptian, Noah was a simple common man, and Ruth did not know God. This goes to show that God uses us for extraordinary things that we think that we are not ready for but here's the deal, we are ready for anything that comes our way as long as we have God on our side. "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you." - Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV.
Amen
