A Beating Worth A Life Free of Fear

Lily's POV

As I walked into the school, my guardian angels stood beside me. Also known as, Asher, Cole, Jason and Ryan. The night before, I had told Cole, Jason and Ryan about my plan, but decided not to tell Asher as I still felt horrible about rejecting him and humiliated because he had instantly caught on to my lies. However, it didn't take long for Jason to run to his room and blurt out everything that we had planned, which is why he was looking at me with a worried look on his face. I could tell that he didn't want me to get beaten up, but it was one of the only ways that I could prove that Carter was abusing me.

As we walked deeper into the hell we called school, I could feel all their nerves radiating off of them. However, the only thing my mind was emitting was excitement. The thought of being able to prove that Carter was an abusive drug addict to the court, and finally getting rid of him made me smile so much, I thought my cheeks would split into half. For the first time in the past two years, I walked through the hallways of the school without covering my neck. Unlike what happens in movies, most people didn't give me a second glance. Even so, a few people pointed at me, looking at the tattoo on my neck with surprise painted across their faces. I guess they didn't expect the 'good girl' to have a tattoo. Stereotypes were so annoying.

As me and the guys split up, I walked to my locker, quickly putting my books in it and getting ready for what I was about to do next. Walking up to Carter's locker, I waited for him to show up. Leaning against the locker, I cracked my knuckles, getting ready. I looked over towards Cole who nodded his head, indicating that he was also ready. As soon as Carter walked towards me, I moved away from the lockers, swung my fist back and threw it upon his face with as much force as I could muster. The result left his lip bleeding and a slightly red jaw, and I knew that it would soon bruise. Glaring at me with anger in his eyes, he grabbed my wrist, brought his face close to my ear, and gritted out,

"You think you can punch me? Darling, have you forgotten all the beatings that you've gotten? Well, let's remind you then."

He started dragging me to what I assumed was the janitors closet. Out of the corner of my eyes, I could see Cole silently following us. I smirked. Everything was going exactly as planned. Once we got in the janitors closet, I quickly looked out of the little glass window on the door. The area was secluded, so no one would see us. Not that they had before. I saw the top of the back of a phone poking out from the side of the window. I instantly recognized it as Cole's. Quickly looking back at Carter so he wouldn't catch me, I saw his fist flying towards me.

The first hit was towards my stomach, making me double over. The intensity of his hit was more than ever before, and I could only blame it on the fact that I had been angering him for the past few months. He then punched me in the nose, making my eyes water. I could see and feel the blood running down my face and onto my lips. The metallic taste made me want to gag, but I held myself firm, not wanting to interrupt Carter's powerful display. Punching me for a few more minutes, he finally took out the main weapon. His belt. Pushing my shirt up, I got hit after hit on my back. I felt like crying out, but I didn't say anything. The crack of the leather strap against my already scarred skin made me want to run away. Nonetheless, I continued to persevere through the hits.

After an endless amount of whipping, he pulled me up by my hair, making me wince, and punched me straight in the diaphragm. Gasping, I fell to the ground fighting for breath. Suddenly, Jason and Ryan walked in, taking hold of Carter and dragging him outside. Asher rushed towards me hurriedly, worry evident on his face, and picked me up bridal style. I was still having a hard time breathing, so he quickly took me outside and put his bag on the ground. He put my head on the bag, laying my body on the floor and bending my knees. Out of nowhere, he took out an oxygen can and pushed it towards my face. Soon enough, I was able to breathe properly again.

Through my pain, I smiled at him. He picked me up again and took me to who knows where. I let him because I was in too much pain to do otherwise. My back was hurting like crazy and my nose was still bleeding. I could feel the bruises forming on my stomach, arms, neck and jaw. As Asher took me outside, I saw Carter being pushed into a police car with three angry looking cops behind him and my friends glaring at him through the window. Once they saw me, they instantly rushed over. Asher opened his car and took out a first aid kit. The guys each grabbed a roll of bandages and some ointment. I was placed in the car and I sat there, waiting for something to happen. As soon as I was about to ask what was going on, Ryan cleared his throat and said,

"Um.... you're gonna have to take your shirt off. It's clinging to your body and if you don't, the blood will dry and make the entire bandaging process hurt even more.

Having experienced the horrible feeling before, I nodded and quickly took my shirt off, not caring that I was in a bra in front of four boys. One of whom was my crush who I had rejected the day before. They stayed silent, not saying anything and quickly started dressing the wounds on my front. Putting an ointment on my bruises, cleaning the blood off of my nose and applying some ointment to my bruised jaw. Next, they asked me to turn around. With a little bit of difficulty, I managed to do it. Waiting for something to be applied on my back with clenched fingers, as a way to distract myself from the pain, I felt nothing. I looked back at them to see them staring at my back in horror. I saw Asher take a deep breath, and with shaky hands, gently move the cloth against my back. I closed my eyes tightly and clenched my teeth so that I wouldn't scream out.

Soon enough, the guys joined in, cleaning the wounds, and eventually applying the ointment and bandages. They wrapped up my back and all got in the car. Without another word, we started to head towards the police station, hoping for a triumph that would make us all smile. The only worry in my head was,

Is the evidence going to be enough against Carter's extremely powerful uncle?
