Chapter 4 - Safe Life, Safe Environment

It was morning and Andrew woke up at 7a.m. He had barely gotten any sleep all night because of certain things that had been occupying his mind.

The whole night he turned and tossed on the bed while tried to tell himself that it was alright. She was just a devil and they don't have hearts or anything but her sad stricken face kept coming into his mind thus he couldn't sleep a wink.

He thought, maybe she would come but she didn't. Not even in the morning.

Well, it should be a good news that she went away but the guilt felt heavy on his shoulders.

He took a shower and went downstairs as his mom prepared breakfast. His dad had already left as his work demanded him early in the morning.

"Hey, mom." Andrew greeted while taking a seat as his mom gave him toasts and an omlet with a glass of juice.

"Good morning." She said as she sat before him and looked at him with thoughtful eyes.

"Morning." He mumbled.

"So, do you really want to go to Princeton?" She asked as if letting him know to reconsider his decision.

Andrew nodded.

"Then we have to check the financial aid for the college. I am sure it would alter the fees a little." She said and Andrew smiled.

He knew his parents didn't want him to go outside like his elder sister but they wouldn't hold them back. Although it had taken a lot of efforts for his sister, Carson to go outside of this small town. For a peaceful living it was good but Andrew needed to go to achieve his dreams. Otherwise, he might have to play games which others made all throughout his life.

He wanted to learn more so he could make his own games. He had a lot of ideas and for that he needed knowledge and degrees.

"Thank you, mom." He said and his mom's face glowed. He was thankful for the support his parents was giving him. He needed it.

She asked, "Do you want to take the lunch box today?"

He never took lunch boxes as he had always taken the student meal from his school cafeteria but today, he felt like having it.

"Alright. Give it to me."

She dashed to the kitchen as she started to pack the box and within a moment, she came back.

He took it and left saying, "Mom, I am leaving."

The classes went well and Andrew had submitted all the homeworks but there was still no sign of that devil.

Did she really leave?

The guilt wrapped him more in its arms as he realised that he may have been a little too rude to her.

His mind was too occupied of the little devil that he didn't hear when the teacher called him. "Andrew."

He looked up finally his attention was caught. "Yes?"

Mr Brown looked at him for a moment, and asked, "Would you like to solve this problem, Mr McAllen?"

Andrew looked at the board and the maths problem was easy since he had done it yesterday. He nodded and went toward the board taking the chalk.

After solving it, he put the chalk down as Mr Brown nodded in appropriation. "This technic is easier. Good job, Andrew."

He gave a curt nod and went toward his seat, the students around him talking in hushed tones but his mind went back to the devil again. It felt like she wasn't leaving his mind anytime soon.

The class ended soon as lunch hour came. He went toward the cafeteria as he met the one person whom he didn't want to meet with. Chad.

He and his group occupied two whole tables along with their chicks. He pointed at his friends and Andrew could see they would like to try their endless bully-technics again. Bit who would be their next target?

He failed to understand their motives behind bullying people. What was the gain after harassing others? For him, it was a waste of time and energy.

A little over a year ago, they kept bullying a girl because she was fat and after that she stopped coming to the cafeteria.

Then, a boy who didn't have any friends and they kept calling him a spooky boy. A poor boy and so more. Although, he still came to the cafeteria but Andrew couldn't see him anywhere right now.

And he certainly didn't know how would anyone would get bullied by Chad? He tried many times with Andrew as well but he ignored him like a plague and if he went overboard, it took him a minute to let Chad know who is the boss. Of course, without fighting. Fighting hand to hand was not his style. A threat is enough.

Chad was one of his father's friend's son. So, he used to come to their house when they were toddlers. And Andrew still had the picture of Chad peeing on his pants after seeing a spider.

So, he and his jock friends stopped trying.

Andrew opened the lunch box as Chad commented, "Eating momma's meal, topper boy?"

"Oh! C'mon, Chad, he is a momma's boy, after all." One of his friends said as they all laughed.

Andrew rolled my eyes. Like seriously? Now that they had no one to bully, they came up with a simple excuse on a lunch box?!

He looked at him and with a smirk said bluntly, "What can I say? My mom's cooking is better than your mom."

Gasps erupted around them as it agitated him a little. He glared at Andrew and Andre's smug face let him know once again not to mess with him. He looked back at his lunch and then a boy suddenly asked from his behind, "C—can I sit here?"

He looked up and saw it was the same boy, Chad and his friends bully time to time. He nodded, "Your choice."

To be honest, he didn't know his name and this was probably their first time talking in person.

He sat down and Andrew saw he still wore his hoodie. There was a bruise on his left eye and Andrew knew why didn't he see him.

He chewed and asked, "How did you get a bruise?"

The boy stiffened and pursed his lips. He looked at Andrew with wide eyes. "I—" then his eyes moved to Chad.

Andrew sighed. "It was Chad?"

He let out a nervous chuckle. "Well, it was my fault anyways. I didn't give him my homework."

"You did good. Don't let him get to you, he is not even powerful."

"But he has so many friends."

"You call them friends?" Andrew scoffed. "He got wings because he got those jocks and they wander around him because his father hold a good position thus it would help them to get a recommendation for their dream college. Don't let them bully you."

The boy nodded. "I tried and got this." He pointed at his bruise.

"Why didn't you go talk to the head of anti bullying campaign?" He asked.

The boy sighed. "Because there is no proof that they did it. If there is no proof, Chad's dad would sue me and the school's management."

Andrew thought for a moment. True. If the school had no proofs then it would make easier for Chad's dad to act but the school can act accordingly if they somehow got a proof.

"Then the next time he comes just tell him, you know what he did on grade four." Andrew said as he put the box back into his bag.

He looked at Andrew for a moment then asked, "What did he do?"

Andrew grinned. "Well, that is a secret. But just tell him that and don't let him know that you don't have a clue."

He chuckled. "Okay."

And Andrew went back to attend the remaining classes.

The next classes went smooth and it was time for him to go home and play the game. After he finished, he would get all of the money.

As he took his bicycle, Chad came and snatched the key. He glared at him. Chad was the same height as him but his built was full while Andrew was lean.

"What's your problem?" Andrew asked.

"Let us have a little chat, shall we?" he said and grinned.

"I don't have time for your little chats, Chad. Give me back my keys." He said.

"Oh no! I won't. If you want it, you have to come to get it." He started to walk toward the back side of the school and Andrew knew what the little chat was about. The back side of the school was their ground and that's where they would take their preys to beat them. Because there was no cctv which meant no witness.

Andrew followed him despite he was getting late to go back. He needed to go because he had a game to play and more than that, he wanted to see if she was there.

It wasn't like he wanted to see her...

Maybe?

They reached at the place where the school field ended and a series of trees guarded them from the view. Andrew saw all of his friends came as well. Some cracking their knuckles and some even bought a few melee weapons. Such as, knuckle and wooden sticks. But only one had a stick and the rest would use their fists.

Andrew had to praise they had the guts to do that around the school. He entered his hands inside of his pockets and said with a blank face, "Are you seriously going to beat me? In school yard?"

Chad grinned wickedly as all of them let out a laugh. Victorious laughs.

"Why? Are you scared already, Andrew the topper boy?" One of them said in a mocking tone.

"Yes, I am very scared." He said.

"Yes, you should be." Chad said with a sneer.

"Oh I am very scared of you guys, Chad, Donovon, James, Harry and..." His eyes moved toward the rest of them, "I don't even know your names."

"It's Carter, Dennis and Smith, you sucker!" Dennis said with an irritated voice.

While Smith mocked, "Honestly, how do you even call yourself a topper when you can't even remember school's best team members?"

He brought out his hands from his pockets and his phone was in his right hand.

"I don't even call myself topper. Because I am the topper." He said with a smirk, "And I don't find the need to remember your names. I discard trashes from my memories."

All of their faces twisted as anger was evident on their faces. "Andrew, you are dead today." Chad announced.

Andrew smiled, "We will see about that because," he hung his phone in the air as there was a name on the screen. 'Mr Wallace'. The head of the anti bullying campaign and second in charge of the school. And the call was still on going. All of their faces paled because they said their names with their own mouth.

Andrew disconnected the call before saying with a very dramatic voice, "Oh! I am so scared. Please don't beat me. Ah! Uh!"

He gave them a wicked grin and said, "Now, be prepared to get suspended for two weeks and I heard that they have come up with a very interesting punishment for the bullies."

A few gapes formed in their mouths because all of them knew that their vice principal was very strict against bullying students. So, he had contacted a bunch of NGOs and made a new movement to send those bullies every week to take care of the children and the old people and it wasn't enough, they had to regularly clean their surroundings until they graduated. If they think of skipping those, it would make their profile to have a good red mark and no good college might take them or give them scholarship.

Andrew said, "They would send you to the therapists for the next six months and will register all of you under 'Safe life, Safe environment' movement."

Andrew smiled, a dangerous smirk playing on his lips as he said, "Good luck."

A/n: Before you say something, these all campaigns and movements are all made up. I was reading an article where there were some suggestions like these so, I combined them in my book.

Those who bullies are also the ones who are suffering from different reasons so, making them go to those Old-Age Homes, Orphanage and cleaning surrounded areas would make them busy and they would meet various people. Helping people or taking care of nature sometimes changes your heart so, it is a good suggestion since they might try to think from other's people POVs. Also, those who bullies they need to go to therapists too. So I added it.
