Chapter 14 - The Relationship is dead
Andrew's feet took a pace as he went upstairs with a quick pace. His heart thumped against his ribcages as he saw his parents were about to open his door.
He was about to stop them but they had already opened the door wide before them and halted. Andrew's heart stopped as well.
He froze and now his thoughts ran in his mind. What would he say who was Avaloth and why was she here?
He would say she was friend.
But how come a friend came and they got no clue of it? It would make them more suspicious as if they were going to do...some adultery things.
What the heck he was thinking!
He took deep breaths and calmed himself as he went behind them. "Err
... Mom, Dad, I was about to—"
Then his gaze fell in his room. There was no sign of Avaloth. He moved his eyes everywhere and nope. She wasn't there. Where was she?! Did she leave again?
He got panicked. But his parents seemed to be impressed by him as they looked around his room with awe. Everything was placed perfectly, the sheets were changed and his book shelve was neat.
His mom looked at him and smiled in appreciation. "You certainly did a great job here, Andrew."
He gave a nervous smile as his mind was somewhere else and his eyes moved everywhere but his parents. He didn't do anything. Avaloth did it but where was she?
He felt his body tensed but then his eyes caught something outside of the window seal. It was a devil tail peeking from there. He froze.
Avaloth was just outside of the window!
She maybe was hiding but she forgot her tail had its own mind...
Andrew immediately went toward the window and stood, hiding the view behind him. "So, as you can see, I have done it. Now, can you please leave? I want to play some games."
"Fine. Just do whatever you want but remember to clean the room every once in a while." His mom said as they went toward the door.
Andrew's eyes stayed on them until they left the room and then he let out a long breath he had been holding.
He turned around and poked his head out of the window and saw Avaloth was glued to the wall. As she sensed him, she looked at him with wide eyes.
"Come inside, they have left." He said.
Avaloth entered and Andrew stretched his hands to support her balance but she didn't take them. She went toward his bed and sat quietly as Andrew went over his gaming chair.
He felt something unusual. He started to play the game and often took glances at her. She wasn't looking at him instead she was reading the book she called 'A sacred book for the incubi'.
In other times, she would be very interested in what he was doing around his desktop but today she wasn't.
"What are you reading?" He asked, his eyes on his targets but his mind was on her.
"A spell. I am trying to learn it." She said, her voice was a bit serious. Was it a seducing spell?
Maybe after Andrew treated her like that, she finally wanted to work hard so she could get powers.
He looked at her and saw she was reading it with her utmost concentration. It somehow made him a little wary.
What if she learnt everything because now it didn't seem impossible. She said she got horns which meant she was getting powers and he could notice the change in her posture.
He asked, "Are you hungry?"
"No."
Strange. She would always get hungry.
"I can make cinnamon rolls."
He heard no answer as he moved his head toward her, he saw, stars appeared on her doe eyes and her tail slapping the air. Alright. She was still the same.
He got almost scared that she was changing slowly. Maybe her personality would change gradually once she gain full powers. But he didn't like the serious version of Avaloth. It was selfish of him but he wanted her to stay like she was.
He nodded and asked, "What is this spell is about?"
Avaloth looked at her book and said grinning, "A spell to catch human hearts."
He raised a brow. "And are you planning to apply tht on me?"
"Err... No...?" She gave a cute smile.
He sighed. "Alright. I am going to make some cinnamon rolls. Coming right back."
He went downstairs and took out his phone. He played a video of how to make cinnamon rolls because he had no idea. He said it to grab her attention because he felt like she was a bit distant from the moment she had come.
He entered the kitchen and peeked at his parents' room. The door was closed and they maybe were taking rest. Good. Now he can do it. Maybe...
He saw they had all the ingredients for the rolls. He brought out the a bowl and as it instructed, he poured everything by measuring the quantity.
But the problem was he didn't understand how it become a dough. He mixed everything as it said but the mixture turned a bit muddy. But he was sure that he measured everything as the video instructed. Did he need to add more flour?
But how much?
He groaned. He didn't understand a thing!
"Do you want some help?" A voice came and he saw it was his dad, peeking at him from the kitchen's door.
"Um... Hey, dad..." He looked at his failed attempt of making the cinnamon rolls and let out a sigh. He nodded. "Yes, please."
His dad seemed to be portraying a smug face as he entered. "What are you making?"
"Cinnamon Rolls."
His dad nodded. "It is easy."
"Sure." Andrew said pointing at the bowl.
"You may have added too much milk." His dad said and asked, "What are the measurements?"
Andrew said him the measurements and his dad laughed. Apparently, he got confused with the spoons and tablespoons. He added everything measuring with tablespoon which resulted them to add more flours and butters.
He finished kneading the dough while his dad covered it and let it rest for a few minutes.
"So, what's the occasion for making cinnamon rolls?" His dad asked.
"Um..." Andrew tried to find an excuse because he couldn't say that he was making it for a certain devil whom he had hurt. "It is just I thought I should make it to treat all of us because we were working all day and mom and you have been busy always so..."
Alright. That was a lame excuse. He messed up.
But his dad seemed to find it very amusing as his grin broadened and he seemed happy to hear Andrew making an effort for his parents. Andrew felt guilty. He was making it for Avaloth but he forgot about his parents. But it was good that he messed up the measurements and now they could have more rolls so he could treat his parents as well.
His dad rolled the dough out into rectangle shapes while Andrew spread the butter on top, then sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar.
After tightly rolling up the dough, he cut into pieces and placed them in a greased round pan.
"So baking time?" Andrew asked.
"No. We have to wait at least half an hour or one hour before baking it.
" What?! But I thought it would be real fast."
"If you want a good taste you have to wait, son."
"Fine. I will just go to play a quick game then." He said and his dad said, "Yeah, and I will watch the baseball game."
They nodded in agreement as Andrew got back and saw Avaloth was still reading her book. She didn't even look at him and it kinda hurt him. She would always look at him with those sparkly doe eyes and show some excitement.
What was wrong with him? He thought he would never be charmed by her. Was she casting some spell? He wasn't like a person who would want any attention from others but here, he was pissed off because Avaloth was giving him a cold treatment.
It ought to do with her spells. Yes.
As he took his chair Avaloth looked at him and asked, "Where is cinnamon rolls?"
"It will take some time." He answered and started to play. He killed every players in the game as if pouring out his anger on the poor players.
Comments after comments came in his chat box.
: Woah, that's the true power of MonsterX.
: Man, he killed everyone in just five minutes.
: Ugh... Man, you were so fast! At least let me kill you once!
He typed: Not a chance.
The game ended and he just didn't know what to do. He didn't feel like playing another multiplayer.
He sensed Avaloth beside him, standing and he looked at her. Her eyes glued to the screen and it seemed she wanted to try it so bad.
But she didn't say anything as he asked, "Do you want to play?"
Her eyes sparkled but she shook her head. "No. I was just..."
Then she went back to the bed.
Andrew couldn't understand her at all. Why was she acting like that? Was she mad? Was she giving him a cold treatment? Why was she so distant all of a sudden?
Well, it was his fault in the first place but she didn't seem like she was mad. She felt like she was hurt and she was trying to make a distance between them. But why?
Didn't he apologized her already? It somehow irked him.
He stood up and went to the kitchen. He decided to watch the baseball game with his dad while waiting for the pieces to rise.
He sat beside his dad as his dad asked, "Done with your game?"
"Yeah. It was boring. I better watch a baseball match."
His dad raised a brow. Andrew wasn't fond of any kind of games which involved physical movement. He used to watch matches but he prefered video games.
"Did something happen?" His dad asked probably sensed his sour mood.
"No. Nothing."
"Well, you can tell me if something is bothering you. Sometimes telling what's in the mind makes you feel better." He said.
Andrew thought for a moment. What would he say? There was a devil and he hurt her and now he didn't know why was he bothered by her sudden change in the behavior?
"Okay. But don't ask anything after it." Andrew said as his dad nodded.
He pursed his lips and said, "I was a little rude to someone and now she is keeping a distance between us. She wasn't like that but now I feel like she isn't even mad. I don't know what's wrong with her."
His dad blinked. "You got a girlfriend?"
Andrew's face burnt with heat and he gave his dad a look. "Dad! No asking questions!"
"Err... Alright."
A duvet of awkwardness fell on them and his dad said, "Well. I don't know what did you mean by rude but I can say that girls are very sensetive beings. You can't handle them with your logics. They are beyond logics."
Andrew nodded in agreement. "Then what do I do? Even if I said sorry to her, she feels like creating a distance and it is pissing me off." His jaw muscles clenched as his dad studied his face for a while.
"You have to pamper her." His dad suggested.
He looked at his dad with a questioning gaze. "What do you mean by that?"
"As I said, girls are sensitive. You have to be careful with your words. Some words could be harmful for yourself as they could use it next time against you." His dad said and Andrew nodded as if he was attending an Important lecture.
"You know how your mom is. I had always been careful and she uses exactly the same words next time to make me feel my own words." His dad tapped his temple. "Damn! It took me years to form a good trick."
Andrew agreed. His mom would do that. "But Ava—" He halted. He was about to spill her name but it was too late as his dad gave him a smile.
"Her name is Ava?"
"That's not the point here."
"First tell me how is she like?" His dad ask.
"She is not like mom. She is stupid and clumsy." But cute.
His dad nodded. "What did you say?"
Andrew's body stiffened. "Err... She was asking me to teach her some gaming moves and I got mad because she was nagging and she is sometimes so clingy."
"Hmm..." His dad narrowed his eyes down and asked again, "But what did you say?"
"I said she was annoying and she started to cry I got mad and said...she was dramatic." Andrew finished his words and saw his dad was giving him a pitiful gaze.
Andrew raised a brow. "What?"
"Oh, Andrew." His dad placed a hand on his shoulder and said, "Count this relationship as good as dead."
