Chapter 10 - Avaloth, the mighty battery

Avaloth must have sensed danger again as her hollowed eyes turned wider and she pushed Andrew away with all the power she could muster.

Andrew had never thought that her small, weak looking arms held such power to make him fly toward the end of the road. He fell on the ground as he screeched through the pitch road and stopped at a distance.

His eyes searched Avaloth and he saw the sky above her charged as a light spread through the dark sky and fell on her head with a deafening roar. Andrew closed his eyes as the flashes of it was enough to make him blind.

His heart stopped as the lightning striked on Avaloth.

For a moment, his ears burnt as well as his skin. He could feel the heat of the enormous power that had surrounded the vicinity. His stomach felt light and he felt himself freezing in the spot.

He opened his eyes and blinked as it took a few seconds to gain back his sight. When he could see clearly again, he saw Avaloth's lying body far away from him. His heart sank and he felt his body wouldn't move even if he ordered it.

"No! no no! Avaloth!" He screamed and with a lot of struggling, he finally managed to move. His feet hurried to reach her.

He knelt down beside her. Her hair was burnt as well as her tail. They looked like crisped by the lightning. There was burnt on her skin as spider webs abd his breath hitched.

He panicked. "Oh my God!" He couldn't think straight as his breathing fastened.

He shook her but she didn't move and it made him go into another panic.

No way! I thought devils were immortal! How could she die! He thought as his hands had gotten cold.

He brushed his hair and tried to steady his breathing.

Then he scolded himself in his head. No! Think! There was a chance to survive a lightning strike. He had read it when he was doing a practical test in the labs. 9 out of 10 people who survived lightning.

CPR! Yes!

Because of the massive amount of charged energy, her heart had stopped. The rest of the current had passed over her skin leaving burns. He told himself she couldn't die. Not like this.

He placed his hands on her chest and started to administrate CPR. He counted to thirty as he placed his mouth on her mouth. He blew air in her and suddenly, Avaloth's eyes opened.

He pulled away immediately. "Avaloth!"

She sat in a robotic way and tilted her head toward him. She felt she was in a daze.

Relief washed over him as he took her into his arms and hugged her. He released a long breath. He couldn't be more glad than this.

"Andrew McAllen." She said, "I feel my ears ringing."

He looked at her and smiled. "Of course, it would be ringing."

His eyes inspected her for a moment. "Can't believe you just survived a lightning."

But then he saw her hair growing back slowly as her burns were healing on their own. Her tail healed as well and now lazily swayed in the harsh air.

Avaloth's hollowed eyes looked at him and said, "I feel like power surging through me."

He nodded as his eyes watched how her long black hair came back to how they were before. It was mesmerising as the unnatural phenomenon unfolded before him yet he wasn't scared. He watched her in awe.

"I think, I can teleport us again." She said as Andrew looked at her for a moment.

"Y-you can do that after striked by lightning?" He asked in disbelief.

She nooded.

"What are you, a battery?" He said as Avaloth wrapped her hands around him and within a blink of an eye, the scene before him changed. It felt like air blew over him and the screen before him changed into a new one.

But they were in the forest, surrounded by large trees where lightning could blissfully hit them as much as it want.

His brow twitched. "Why the heck did you teleport us back to a dangerous place!"

"But it is my house!" She said.

He mover around his eyes but saw only large trees and bushes. Nothing else. No house. No nothing.

"Where is your house exactly?" He asked through gritted teeth as he tapped his foot.

She pointed her hand behind him as he turned around. He saw a few bushes hung together in the middle of two trees which were probably the shades and beneath them laid a large, thick log. If it wasn't enough, the rain poured heavily through the bushes which should give the log shade instead, the log was soaking wet that a match couldn't even fire it.

Thunder roared above them as if displaying the same emotions Andrew held on his face. "You call that a house?!"

"But I don't know how to make one." Avaloth said playing with her fingers and her tail wiggled as well.

Alright. Calm down. He said to himself.

"Just teleport us back to my house." He said as Avaloth scratched the back of her neck.

"Err... I think I had used all the power teleporting both of us here." She gave him a cute smile.

Calm. Down.

Andrew's jaw muscles clenched tightly. "You don't say."

"But maybe I can do it again if I get striked by the lightning?" She asked scratching her head.

CALM DOWN!

"You gotta be kidding me!" He groaned.

Calmed himself down! How could he even do that when she was just so stupid! He wanted to tear his own hair or better, get her strike by lightning hundred times.

But the good thing was the thunder might have gone far. The rain poured heavily and the wind wasn't that harsh like before. Now all they needed to do was go back to his house.

He looked at her and was about to ask where is the route of his house when his eyes fell on her clothes. The plain white dress, after surviving the lightning it was drenched in the rain and now had became transparent.

His face heated as he snapped away his eyes and asked, "W-where is my house?"

Avaloth came near as he turned around and said, "Wait!"

And he put his bag down then took off his jacket and stretched his hand to her. "Wear it over your clothes."

"But why?"

"Just wear it, will you?!" He growled as she took it immediately and wore it.

As he heard her wearing the jacked, he looked over her. He went near and closed the chain to her neck saying, "Now, don't you date take it off."

Avaloth blinked as she nodded and led him to the back of his house.

It wasn't far.

"This is not far from that place." He said as Avaloth nodded with a broad grin on her face.

"C'mon. Let's get to your room." She said and to the side of the house as he followed her. She hopped on the roof of the car that laid just beside their house and his room was just above the walls.

Now he knew why it never took her more than a few minutes to come into his room. There was an old car that his dad made his personal vintage dustbin.

The car was old and had no engine but his dad and his friends would sit in it while listen baseball matches with popcorns and grilled meats. That was more like an old club house for them.

Avaloth climbed up on the eave of their porch roof that grew to the side of the house then she walked on it to the window of his room. She looked behind and pointed him to come follow her while Andrew looked at her with a gap in his mouth.

He needed to move that junk!

He went to the front as he rang the bell and his mother opened it immediately. Both of his parents were worried and as soon as they saw him, relief washed over them.

"Andrew! Oh my god! I tried to call but I couldn't reach you." His mom said and he saw his father was getting ready to outside, probably to find him.

"You scared me," his dad said and hung the car keys on the key hanger as Andrew went inside. His clothes were dripping wet as his mom went to get a towel.

"I am fine. I was just waiting until the thunder subside." He said.

His dad nodded and said, "Alright. Go change your clothes or you will catch a cold. I am making hot chocolate for you."

Andrew nodded as his mom gave him a dry towel and he wiped his head. Hanging it on his shoulders, he went upstairs.

As he opened the door, he saw Avaloth was standing beside the window. Good thing, she didn't sat on the bed.

Sensing his presence, Avaloth turned around and asked, "Why didn't you come from there?"

"Because my mom amd dad would freak out if I came down from my room." He said and took out fresh clothes and another towel.

He threw the towel to her and saw water dripping from her clothes to the floor. "Dry yourself."

She was about to open the jacket he gave her when he said, "Woah! Not here!"

He pointed at the attached bathroom and said, "Go to the bathroom and take a shower."

She slowly went to the bathroom and called him, "Err... Andrew McAllen...?"

"What!"

"My clothes are all wet." She said from the bathroom.

"I am giving you some." He said and searched through his t-shirts and grabbed a large size. He knocked on the door and said, "Here."

Avaloth stretched her hand and took it while Andrew started to wipe himself. He still couldn't believe he just saw someone getting strike by lightning. Today's incidents would always remain in his head and he swore, he would never run in a storm again. Heck! He wouldn't go out in a storm.

He almost felt as if he was going to die. If Avaloth didn't pushed him away, the lightning would have roasted him.

Avaloth came out, her hair still wet and the t-shirt he gave her reached just above her knees. Andrew's stomach tumbled as it was the first time he had given his clothes to someone especially a girl and she still looked pretty.

His eyes turned wide. What the heck was he thinking! He took his shirt and pants and went inside the bathroom.

After a while, he came back and sat on his chair, relaxing his shoulders. A knock came making both of them startled as Andrew looked at Avaloth.

Avaloth looked at the window and he saw the rain still poured heavily and it was impossible for her to teleport herself again. He placed his fore finger on his lips telling her to stay quiet.

Avaloth nodded as he went toward the door, Avaloth hiding beside the bed.

He opened it but not fully and stood between the wall and the door. "Hey, Dad?"

"The hot chocolate." His dad said giving him the mug and he took it.

"Thanks."

"Your mom is making hot soup it will make you warm. Come later, 'kay?" He said as Andrew nodded giving him a smile.

His dad's eyes washed over him one time before he left and Andrew sighed with a relief. If he came inside Avaloth would have to go outside again.

He closed the door behind him as Avaloth sat on the bed again and looked between him and the mug.

Andrew sipped on it as Avaloth's stomach howled.

His lips twitched as she looked flustered and averted her eyes away.

He stretched the mug to her saying, "Only half mug."

Stars appeared on her eyes as she nodded enthusiastically and took the mug. She sipped on it and grinned. "This is amazing."

"I have another thing for you." He said as Avaloth looked at him questioningly.

He opened his backpack hoping it wasn't smashed because all these time, he was running, jumping and flying around. He opened the packet and saw, some of it broke but the rest were okay.

Avaloth had already sniffed the aroma as a wide grin parted her face in two. Andrew could see her drooling over the rolls and her tail pointed at him or maybe at the packet in his hands.

"Are those for me?" She asked as her tail swayed frantically behind her.

"Yes but one at a time."

She pouted. "But I am hungry..."

"I will go take some soup for you and sandwiches."

"But I am hungry for cinnamon rolls." She nibbled her fingers on the edge of the t-shirt she was wearing.

Andrew raised a brow and Avaloth changed her words immediately. "Soup and sandwiches are fine too."

"Good. Now give me the mug back."
