As the new year rings in and everyone celebrates 2018, I believe I should look back on 2017 and pick my person of the year. That saying, I didn't have to look far. Melissa Benoist (Melissa Amell) had a long and tough year, which no one can really deny. She started off the year with us, I remember sitting with her and talking about what we wanted for 2017. Than the drama started.

After completing an epic season as Kara Danvers, and saving Team Arrow, she and her boyfriend suffered from separation and she fell out of love. As her new feelings bagan developing for a co-star, she was mature enough to break it off with her estranged boyfriend and kept away from becoming 'the other woman'.

After Stephen announced his divorce from his ex, and the two FINALLY figured out they were meant to be, they began a relationship riddled with hate from so called fans. They continued on, fighting for each other and winning.

The hack should have been her downfall, the part of the year that anyone else would have crumbled. But not Melissa, she carried on as if nothing happened, revealing to the world that she was indeed human too, and made mistakes like anyone else.

In October, the two finally realized that they were ready for a leap that we all thought would take years for them to do, they got married. Whilst she didn't get the big wedding with a beautiful white dress or a big reception with 4 tier cake, she was purely happy to be Mrs. Amell.

In December she faced even more hate, but that didn't stop her from being the total badass she is. She stepped up to the plate and became an international inspiration. She put her haters in their place and managed to call a truce with her ex.

Melissa Amell made it through 2017 witch her head held high and her friends at her side, she is truly an inspiration and I am thankful that my kids can call her Aunt Mel.
