Chapter 19: Old Friends

Third Person POV

Ddraig: ['Partner, can I ask you something...']

Issei: 'Yeah, what's up, Ddraig?'

Ddraig: ['Why are we fighting yourself again?']

At the moment, Issei was standing in the backyard of his house. After seeing the note his parents had left for him, Issei decided that he should take the time and do a little bit of training since he's got nothing else to do. Plus, if Vergil was with him then he was sure that the eldest Sparda would've forcibly drag the brown-haired boy outside and make him do like a million sword swings in one hour.

However, Issei didn't want to just stand in one spot and swing his blade, so he came up with a brilliant idea after remembering one of Dante's old styles: Doppelganger. The name of the style was enough to already know what it did, makes an exact copy of the user with their combat abilities and techniques.

Issei does know that Vergil also has a doppelganger ability, unfortunately he hasn't been able to use it. Issei's guess is because every time he used it himself, it always took on the form of his Sin Devil Trigger and Issei doesn't have access to that yet. Although, the two did mention to Issei that he will eventually unlock them, though it will be when he unlocks his full potential.

Until that happens, Issei has to stick with using Dante's doppelganger which he doesn't mind because he was already starting to feel like a damn anime protagonist.

Issei: 'Cause just standing in one spot, swinging either Yamato or Rebellion would be stupid. Plus, I'm home alone. This is the perfect time.'

Ddraig grunted.

Ddraig: ['I guess you make a good point, though your neighbors may be confused on why there's two of you']

Issei couldn't help but chuckle a little, Ddraig did have a point there but he was sure that he'll be done with training before the neighbors even spot him.

With that, Issei held out his hand and summoned the Yamato as he looked in front of him and saw that his doppelganger was already in a battle stance, Rebellion in one of its hands.

A small smile grew on Issei's face.

Issei: "This is gonna be fun..."

Ddraig: ['This training is gonna tear up the backyard, isn't it?']

Issei smirked as his eyes glowed blue and red.

Issei: "You got that right"

Unsheathing the katana from its scabbard, both Issei and the doppelganger immediately charged towards one another with impressive speed, their blades clashing against one another as their fight had officially begun.

The sound of steel clashing against one another echoed throughout the air, sparks flying off each time the swords made contact with each other. Issei went to slash the doppelganger's legs, but it jumped up and proceeded to kick the brown-haired boy away.

Issei slid back a little, but quickly recovered and looked up to see the doppelganger trying to do a downward slash upon. Issei jumped out of the way as the Rebellion made contact with the ground, destroying a little bit of it in the process. Issei took this chance to try and attack the doppelganger from behind, but it immediately blocked the attack using Royalguard, causing the Yamato to bounce off.

Issei: 'Damn it...'

Issei jumped backwards, putting some distance between him and the doppelganger.

Issei: 'Royalguard was always annoying to face off against, especially when Dante kept spamming it...'

Ddraig chuckled.

Ddraig: ['Oh, I know. You wouldn't stop cussing Dante out for an hour...']

Issei: 'Cause its true! that spamming bas-'

Ddraig: ['Incoming!']

Issei's eyes widened as he managed to block an incoming bullet, causing it to bounce off the blade and hit a nearby rock. Issei turned back to the doppelganger that had both Ebony and Ivory out, making the brown-haired boy grit his teeth a little.

The doppelganger wasted no time and began firing the guns, but Issei started to dodge the incoming attack very quickly as he soon jumped high into the air before landing behind his opponent, delivering a kick to his back and knocking him back over to where he once was.

Issei: "Guns? How barbaric..."

The doppelganger smirked as he brought back out Rebellion and the two started to clash their blades against one another once again, performing amazing blocks and dodges without any trouble.

Issei: 'Hey, Ddraig. Are you keeping track of the time?'

Ddraig sighed.

Ddraig: ['Yes, I've been keeping track and so far you've only been going at it for about maybe close to five minutes']

Issei couldn't help but chuckle internally to hear that it had barely been five minutes when it felt like he had been training for an hour. He was lucky that Ddraig was keeping an eye on the time because Issei most likely would've lost track after a while, especially when he's forced to stay focused on the battle in front of him.

Speaking of which, both Issei and the doppelganger continued to clash against one another for a while, around another five minutes or so before the clone decided to jump backwards.

He soon thrust Rebellion forward, causing Issei to block with the Yamato as sparks flew off from the contact, forcing Issei to skid back a couple of feet.

He narrowed his eyes at his opponent as both he and the doppelganger took in deep breaths, a sign that they both were starting to get quite tired. However, it wasn't long before they went at it yet again. The doppelganger charged toward Issei, dragging Rebellion across the ground before colliding with the Yamato.

The doppelganger went to swing, but Issei leaped back before delivering the hilt of the Yamato into the doppelganger's chest and sent it flying back into a wall.

It soon took out Ebony and began to fire rapidly at Issei, who narrowed his eyes before he started to twirl his blade like a helicopter, catching all the fired bullets and lining them up perfectly on the ground.

Issei then launched the bullets back at the Doppelganger, who put Ebony away and summoned back Rebellion before vertically cutting all the bullets in half.

Issei chuckled.

Issei: "Impressive... Very impressive."

He then smirked.

Issei: "Although..."

Issei gripped the Yamato tightly as he got into another fighting stance, his eyes flashing blue as numerous glowing blue swords appeared around him.

Issei: "Now I'm motivated."

The doppelganger narrowed its eyes as it also got into another fighting stance, the air between the duo growing thin as they waited for one to make the first move. Their eyes locked onto each other as a small drop of sweat ran down Issei's face, running all the way down to his chin before falling.

However, once the drop had landed upon the grass below, both Issei and the doppelganger immediately burst forward at one another with blazing speed.

(Time Skip Brought to you by Dante annoying Vergil)

Issei: "Yo, boys. I got us pizza."

Issei was currently at Kuoh Academy, since it was still a school day, and right now he was standing in front of his two best friends with three boxes of pizza in one hand. He could feel the jealous glares coming from some of the other students, who secretly wished that they themselves thought of the idea of getting pizza for lunch.

Although, they won't openly admit it since many of them, mainly the girls of Kuoh Academy, still didn't like Issei or his two perverted friends. They didn't care if Issei looked a little different, to them, he was still the same perverted beast and leader of the infamous trio.

Matsuda looked at Issei with a smile.

Matsuda: "Issei, you are a lifesaver!"

Issei chuckled a little as Matsuda grabbed the box on top and opened it, almost drooling at the sight of the delicious pizza.

Issei: "Oh come on, I just thought I'd get something nice for my two friends-"

Matsuda: "No, I mean, you're literally a lifesaver!"

He pointed at Motohama, glaring at the glasses-wearing boy.

Matsuda: "Because I was about to punch this idiot in the face!"

Issei couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. Matsuda was genuinely annoyed with Motohama? That wasn't something that normally happened in their group, and Issei knows this because after they tried to punch him for being near Rias, they soon didn't care about it.

So to see Matsuda actually annoyed about something definitely wasn't what the brown-haired boy was expecting.

Issei: "You're annoyed with Motohama?"

Matsuda: "Yes!"

Issei: "Why?"

Motohama rolled his eyes.

Motohama: "Don't mind him, Issei. He is just overreacting."

Matsuda glared at Motohama.

Matsuda: "Yeah, after what you said, bastard!"

(Flashback)

A few minutes before Issei had arrived, Matsuda had left his sports class and was making his way over to where he, Motohama, and Issei normally meet up to have their lunch.

He wondered if they were going to go peek on the Kendo girls again, even though they always get caught whenever they do it. But in a way, it's the Kendo Girls' fault, like they've caught them numerous times and yet they never bothered to fix the hole in the wall.

Speaking of which...

Matsuda: 'Who even made that hole? It wasn't Motohama, Issei, or myself. Was it always there?'

He looked up at the sky a little, seeing the bright vast of open blue with small clusters of clouds that were scattered in random locations.

Matsuda: 'Kuoh was once an all-girls private school. Was it one of the teachers? But I don't think they hired any male teachers until it became Co-ed...'

He continued walking as he passed by many students who secretly glared at him, mainly the girls who didn't like him or his friends. Although Matsuda didn't really care about the stares he was getting because eventually, he spotted his buddy, Motohama, who was waiting under a tree for him.

Matsuda grew a small smile.

Matsuda: "Yo, Motohama!"

Motohama looked up from the book he was reading as he turned his attention to Matsuda, smiling at the former athlete.

Motohama: "About time you got here, I thought you weren't going to show."

Matsuda merely chuckled.

Matsuda: "Yeah, sorry about that. Sports took a little longer than I expected."

He soon sat down next to his buddy, which unfortunately was the biggest mistake he had ever made.

Motohama: "Hey, you ever accidentally masturbate to young pictures of your mom?"

Silence.

Silence again.

Silence yet again.

Matsuda: "Who the fuck starts a conversation like that, I just sat down!?"

(End of Flashback)

Issei couldn't help but blink in total astonishment at the tale that Matsuda had just told him. He knew that whatever the former athlete was annoyed about had to be pretty big. However, Issei will say that he definitely wasn't expecting to hear THAT at all.

The brown-haired boy decided to respond in the only way he felt was appropriate for this situation.

Issei: "Yare Yare Daze..."

He shook his head as he sat down, passing the other pizza box to Motohama before opening his own and grabbed a slice. With that, the infamous trio of Kuoh Academy began to eat their delicious meal and make several other students jealous because they wanted something better than what they were given.

(Time Skip Brought to you by Dante picking up Pizza using his mind)

Night had descended upon the town of Kuoh. The bright blue sky had been replaced by pitch darkness, and the once busy streets had all but been abandoned as the people were inside their homes, tucked away in their nice comfy beds and dreaming away in their worlds of imagination.

However, not everyone was in their beds sleeping. There was someone who was currently busy with an assignment.

Ddraig: ['Remind me again, why are we doing this?']

Issei stood in front of a random house with his hands in his pockets as he stared at the place. The building itself wasn't overly impressive; just a simple one-story house with white wood walls and a brown tile roof.

The reason Issei was standing in front of the house was that he was asked by Rias if he could go take care of something for her. When he went to the Occult Research Club, it turned out that they were just about to head off and meet their clients. However, before they left, Rias had asked Issei if he could lend a hand with one of the clients.

The client belonged to Koneko, who apparently has been having difficulty keeping up with the amount she had been receiving. At first, Issei wanted to refuse since he could just head back home and have some pizza for dinner or do more training with his doppelganger.

But he soon reconsidered his choice, and there were a few reasons for this change in decision. Firstly, doing this shows that he actually cares about his alliance with Rias and her Peerage since he doesn't view them as a threat. They have been nothing but friendly to him, ignoring the fact that Akeno was into S&M.

Issei was going to need to keep his distance from Akeno when she decides to use her lightning magic. He may have both Dante and Vergil's power, but there is absolutely no way in Heaven or Hell that he'll be anywhere near Akeno when she acts up.

Anyways, the second reason for Issei's decision change is that he had a feeling that he should take it. He didn't truthfully know why; he just felt that he has to go to where the client was and meet them. It was just a feeling that Issei had, whether it was good or bad he wasn't sure himself.

Lastly, for Issei's main reason, he was simply bored, and that was perfectly reasonable enough.

Issei shrugged.

Issei: "I guess I'm bored..."

Ddraig couldn't help but sigh.

Ddraig: ['Why am I even surprised? I shouldn't be at this point, and yet... I am']

Issei chuckled.

Ddraig: ['Lets just get this over with...']

Issei nodded his head in understanding as he made his way towards the front door before he knocked.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK

Issei: "Hello, anyone in there?"

Silence.

Silence filled the air for a few minutes, much to Issei's confusion as he decided to knock on the door again. However, the moment he did that the door slowly opened on its own. Issei had seen a ton of horror movies to know that watching a door slowly open on its own was never a good sign.

Issei: 'Well, that wasn't creepy...'

Ddraig: ['Be careful, Partner. I'm getting a bad feeling about this...']

Issei nodded his head as he too was getting a bad feeling. He made his way inside the house, and it was eerily quiet and not in a good way.

He continued walking forward until he arrived at the living room. He slowly pushed the door open and immediately heard something that caught his attention: the sound of his shoe stepping on something wet.

Issei: 'What the...'

He took a step back before he kneeled down, touching the spot with his hand before bringing it up for a better look. The moment he did, he saw that he had stepped in blood, which took the brown-haired boy by surprise.

Issei: "The hell!?"

Suddenly, Issei heard a chuckle.

???: "About time, I was getting bored waiting."

This immediately put Issei on edge as he slowly turned his head in the direction of the voice and was greeted by a young man, probably in his 20s with short white hair and red eyes.

???: "I was wondering when you were gonna show up. Now that you're here..."

He soon grew a malicious smile.

???: "I can kill you, Devil!"

The man laughed as Issei narrowed his eyes at him. It was safe to say that he was responsible for the blood on the ground, which means that he killed the client that Koneko was supposed to meet up with.

Issei: "I'm guessing you killed the person who owned this place..."

The man smirked as he bowed a little to Issei.

???: "The name is Freed, Freed Selzen, and I did indeed. He did a sin to summon a Devil so I killed him. But now that you are here, I will exorcise you."

Freed then took out a white gun and a hilt, which soon sprouted a blade made of light.

Issei: "A light sword?..."

Freed: "First, I'm gonna cut your heart out with this sword and then I'll shoot you in the head with this Holy gun!"

With that, Freed charged towards Issei and swung his light sword at the brown-haired boy who summoned Yamato and blocked the attack. This took Freed by surprise because his blade was made of light, which should cut through metal like it was a piece of paper.

Freed: "Huh? What gives!? Why isn't your blade being cu-"

Issei cut Freed off by using the scabbard of the Yamato to trip Freed, lifting him into the air before sending the exercise flying across the room, crashing into the wall.

Freed: "Argh!"

Freed gritted his teeth a little as he got back up, glaring at Issei who got into a fighting stance as his eyes started to glow blue and red.

Issei: "Rule number 1, never underestimate your opponent..."

Freed: "Grrr, why you litt-"

Suddenly, a gunshot went off which echoed throughout the house as Freed barely avoided an incoming bullet.

Freed: "Woah, what the heck!?"

???: "Damn, I missed..."

Issei perked up, his eyes widening a little from the familiar tone.

Issei: "No way..."

He quickly turned his head to his right and couldn't believe his eyes. Standing at the doorway with their weapons drawn was none other than Trish and Lady.

Issei: "Trish! Lady!"

The two women looked at Issei and smiled.

Both: "Hey/Sup Issei, you miss us?"
