Chapter 9: Joined Forces

Sorry it's been so long since I last uploaded anything in this story. I got a little stuck, but I think I sorted past that little obstacle and I know what I'm doing kind of now. Still not 100% sure, but pretty sure. This chapter I decided to make it even more of the crossover it was supposed to be by incorporating more of the characters from Artemis Fowl. More will make their appearances later too.

Anyways, Happy Valentine's Day, and I hope you like it. =)

Artemis

Green eyes stared into sapphire ones. It felt just like old times again; tension was high, and no one had spoken a word yet. For some reason, I was not surprised to see him and his friends standing before us. I assumed they were out hunting Horcruxes, though I hadn’t anticipated running into them at any given point.

“What are you doing here?” he asked. “Shouldn’t you be back in your comfy little mansion?”

I almost forgot how arrogant he was. “Not unless I wanted us all to be dead.”

“Someone wants you dead? Why does that not surprise me?” he shot.

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. “It’s Voldemort,” I stated boldly. “And I had a feeling he would be coming after me sooner or later.” I paused for a moment, contemplating my next move. “Why are you three running around? Destroying Horcruxes, I presume?”

“How did you-” Hermione started, but I cut her off.

“-know? Well, until last night I’m fairly sure our girlfriends were friends, Harry,” I stated.

“What do you mean they were friends?” he asked back.

“She sent Audrey a Howler, basically calling Audrey careless and stupid for trying to keep herself safe,” I hissed. “As I’m sure you know Voldemort tracks down everyone close to you, so honestly I’m surprised he hasn’t gone after her yet too. Unless of course he doesn’t find her a threat.”

I saw Harry clench his teeth. I knew I was getting under his skin. It was just like old times again. Ron placed a hand on Harry’s shoulder, in an attempt to calm him, though I don’t think it was effective.

“So… Horcruxes?” Audrey brought up. I had almost forgotten she was sitting next to me.

Ron barely nodded. “Yea, we just found one. We just got to destroy it now.”

Hermione elbowed him, as if not to say anything else on the subject. “It doesn’t matter to you guys. It’s none of your business."

Her attitude didn’t really shock me. Hermione always had been an insufferable know-it-all. I sighed. “Look, it seems we’re all in the same boat,” I decided. “Voldemort wants us all dead, for one reason or another. Perhaps we should team up?”

“What?! No!” Draco protested. I shot him a glare, and he dropped his argument.

“Divided we don’t stand a chance; you all know that,” I went on. “If we’re together, we have a better chance of survival.”

The three of them finally sat down next to the fire, hoping it would help dry them off. I wanted to laugh at them, but my instincts told me not to. Right now I needed to convince them to join up with us. But how?

“And why should we?” Harry eventually asked.

I debated the idea in my head for a moment. There really was no good, valid reason for them to, other than the fact that there was safety in numbers. I stared at my hands for a moment before I said, “Maybe I know where one of the Horcruxes are. And maybe I won’t tell you if you’re working against us.” A lie, as it turned out, for Voldemort never told anyone what his Horcruxes were, or their location.

“How are we working against you?” Hermione asked. “You’re the ones connected to the Death Eaters. How do we know you’re not just going to turn us over to the Dark Lord?”

She had a point, as much as I didn’t want to admit it. My mind debated what to say for a moment, but Audrey spoke up for me. “In case you haven’t noticed, they have turned over a new leaf in the past few months. If that’s not good enough for you, I don’t know what else to tell you,” she stated. “And in order for them to turn you in, they’d have to speak to Voldemort himself, and that would put their lives at risk as well. They aren’t stupid.”

“And besides,” Sebastian added, “I’m here after all.”

Bingo. That was the deal maker. Sebastian was a Gryffindor, and if there was one thing I knew the Golden Trio would trust, it was another Gryffindor. I watched them exchanged glances for a few moments before Harry looked back to me.

“Fine,” was all he muttered. It wasn’t reassuring, but it was good enough for me. I knew Harry was going to try to fight me tooth and nail the entire time we were grouped up. It was just how he was. Our personalities clashed way too much, but we knew that from day one.

“Excellent,” I sighed. Something told me I didn’t know what I was getting myself into, but I knew in the long run, this meshing was absolutely necessary for survival. We needed a larger group, and they needed inside intelligence, not that I knew anything about the Horcruxes or where they were located. I was willing to lie to keep them from working against us.

I glanced down at my feet as I felt something graze against my pant leg. It was just a small grass snake, so I knew I had nothing to worry about. I picked it up gently, and moved it out of the way. Malfoy gave me confused look for a moment.

           “What was that?” he asked.

I shrugged. “Just a little snake.” For some reason, Audrey giggled a bit when I said the word snake. “Nothing to be worried about. He’s more afraid of us than we are of them.”

“Regardless,” Hermione interjected, “we need to get on to the situation at hand. We need to locate the rest of the Horcruxes and destroy them. Obviously the sooner, the better for all of us.”

Toying with the ring on my right hand, an idea struck me, one that I was honestly shocked that I hadn’t come up with sooner. The ring doubled as a communicator, one that would allow me to get in contact with my other worldly friends. I was unsure what the fairy People would do to help, but I knew they were worth a shot.

“Give me one moment,” I stood abruptly. “I have… an idea of sorts.” Before anyone could give me an answer, I started walking towards the ocean. It would give me enough distance to actually talk to them without people looking at me weird.

Upon reaching the waters’ edge, I pulled out my wand and muttered, “Muffliato,” just to prevent them from overhearing anything incriminating I might’ve said. I grazed the side of the ring with my thumb before speaking into it. “Foaly? Can you hear me?”

“Well, well, well. Long time no see, eh Fowl?” a voice answered me. Definitely the man, or shall I say centaur, I wanted to talk to. It had been a while since he and I had spoken, and I surely didn’t forget he was much like me, although far more paranoid.

“Yes, I know Foaly, but I need your assistance,” I chimed back. “It’s vital.”

“You never call just to say hi, do you?” he sighed. When I sighed back, he stopped complaining. “And as it turns out, I’m already aware of your little situation.”

“Oh really now? How did you manage that one?” I inquired. “I’m not wearing my iris cam. There’s no way you can know everything.”

“Tsk, tsk, I never thought you would actually forget about the camera in the button on your jacket,” Foaly chided. “I mean, it’s been there for a while now.”

I about smacked myself. My jacket, of course. “So you know that my life is in danger? As well as many others’?”

“Duh,” was Foaly’s only response to that.

“I was hoping you and Holly would be able to assist us in possibly locating a few of the Horcruxes, and perhaps destroying them,” I continued. “Not to mention help keep us all alive in the process.”

“I don’t know Artemis,” Foaly stated. “These wizards don’t seem to be the friendly type. I’m not sure Holly will be exactly up for it.”

I was silent for a moment. Think Fowl, think. “Look, I know it’s not the best circumstances, but please. You guys still owe me from last time.”

Foaly didn’t speak for several minutes, as if he was debating an answer. “Alright Artemis. I’ll see what I can do. Next flare runs in twenty minutes. I’ll have Holly lock onto your location and she’ll be there within the next few hours.”

I resisted the urge to dance. I was honestly a bit relieved that I was going to be getting us some of the best help the world could offer. I wasn’t sure how Holly would hold up against Voldemort and the Death Eaters, but I knew it was worth a shot.

“Thanks Foaly,” I said gratefully. “We’ll be in touch.”

“Oh don’t mention it,” he concluded.

I started back towards the group and their conversations all started to become clearer, one more than the others. I stood behind Ron, as he continued to talk aimlessly at Audrey.

“You should dump that loser,” he stated boldly.

“Uh I don’t think so,” Audrey said back immediately. “And Artemis isn’t a loser.”

I cleared my throat right then; Ron looked up at me, suddenly embarrassed by what he had said so clearly to my girlfriend. “So I’m a loser?” I asked.

“I… I didn’t mean it like… that,” Ron stuttered quietly.

“Well, this loser just gave us the best assistance the world could offer,” I declared.

            “What is it?” Malfoy questioned.

“You’ll see soon enough, my friend,” I snickered. “And you won’t be disappointed.” I just hoped I was right…
