Her Calling

Aero's POV

I felt a soft warmth on my face, nothing like in New York. The Wakandan sun was much brighter and much warmer than in Queens. I loved it. The sun was shining trough the windows that we didn't bother to close last night. There was something here more... Magical. About the sun. The way it peeked through the curtains and illuminated everything. Including Peter.

His skin was brightened by it, making it look more dark, nearly orange. His chest was moving up and down and his skin looked smooth. I wanted to touch it, feel it. So I did. I gently stroked his cheek and he leaned into my touch. He curled up and snuggled close to me like a small child and I held him close.

"Goo' mor'ing," he mumbled, his morning voice hoarse.

"Hi," I just said, stroking his hair.

He gave me that dopey smile of his that made my heart flutter. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

"You're really handsome when the sun shines on you," I said.

He blushed and buried his face in my chest.

"You ok there? Confortable?"

He hummed.

"I'll take that as a yes," I giggled.

He then shot up and ran to the second room.

"What?" I asked.

"Nothing. Just checking."

"Calm down. Only us can access his room, remember? And we locked everything yesterday. Plus, there's nobody in Wakanda that would get here, pass all the guards and kidnap a baby."

We walked back in with Ben in his arms, playing with Peter's bed head.

"Yeah, but we forgot to close the window."

"Are you blind? I woke up last night because of the wind and closed the window," I said.

He gave her an 'oh really' look. She looked at the windows.

"Oh. Well, it's like I said. There's Dora Mil-however-you-pronounce-it everywhere. And see? He's totally fine."

"I still worry," he said.

"Oh really? I didn't know. It's not like you worry about everything," I said with sarcasm.

"Hey, that hurts," he said with mock hurt as he clutches his heart. I chuckled, shaking my head.

"Give me my baby, Parker," I said, stretching out my arms at him.

Ben let's out a little cough as I pull him into my arms.

"Good morning little Devil."

He then sneezed.

"Oh, is someone not feeling well?" I ask.

"Oh no, I feel the nightmare coming," said Peter, looking already exhausted.

I put the back of my hand on his forehead.

"Oh no, he has a fever."

"Well crap," he sighted. "We can go see the healers?"

"Yeah, let me call Hunter and let her know we'll be late for daytime shenanigans."

I nodded as he got his phone out. I looked at my poor son.

"You 'gonna be ok, I promise Little guy," I murmured.

"Yeah, hey sis. I think we have to take Ben in. He has a fever."

I tried to listen to the conversation, but I was too worried about my child. I used my powers to make water play around Ben, making giggle, trying to touch it.

"Wawa!" He babbled.

"Yes, it's water," I said, smiling.

"New word?" Peter asked, getting off the phone. I hummed with a smile and changed for fire, being very careful not to touch him.

"Blay!"

"He's so cute."

"Just like his daddy," I smirk. He coughed, red.

"See? Adorable," I say, getting up and handing Ben to Peter, "I'm gonna take a shower,"

Peter opened his mouth.

"No," I said. He closed his mouth, pouting.

After my shower I heard singing. It was a soft sound. I didn't recognize the song Peter singing though. Ben was slowly going back to sleep.

"Baby mine, don't you cry.

Baby mine, dry your eyes.
Rest your head close to my heart,
Never to part, baby of mine.

Little one, when you play,
Pay no heed what they say.
Let your eyes sparkle and shine,
Never a tear, baby of mine.

If they knew all about you,
They'd end up loving you, too.
All those same people who scold you,
What they'd give just for the right to hold you.

From your hair down to your toes,
You're not much, goodness knows.
But, you're so precious to me,
Sweet as can be, baby of mine."

I smiled, leaning on the doorframe.

"I like that song," I say. He jumped a bit, but smiled.

"Thanks. My mom sang it to me when I was little. Her favorite Disney movie was Dumbo."

"I never saw that movie."

"She also liked Cinderella. She sang that a lot to Hunter."

"Now that I did see. My mom had a major crush on the prince when she was little."

"I was kinda scared of the movie."

I sit next to him.

"Why?" I giggled.

"I don't know! The cat was scaring me and the way she turned the mice was just terrifying," he shrugged, with a smile.

I laughed.

"You're are adorable."

"Am not."

I push his head a little.

"Take the compliment."

"You take the compliments."

I give him a questioning look.

"You can't take compliments. It's true," he said shrugging.

"I can too take compliments."

"Sure Baby, sure," he said, smirking. "Come on, we should go."

We stood and started walking out after we changed Ben.

"So... Do you know where the healers are?"

"Absolutely not," I say. We stood there, looking at each other and bursted out laughing.

"Let's ask a guard!"

"Alright." We walked up to one, "Excuse me? Hi, where can we find the healers?"

"I can get you there, if you wish."

"Uh, yeah, that'd be great," Peter said. She nodded and started walking.

We walked down long corridors and into a small room. The guard knocked and someone opened the door. The two person talked in their language and the unknown person nodded. The two of them did a 'x' with their arms and the guard turned towards us.

"The healers are there for you."

"T-thanks..." Peter said awkwardly. The guard nodded and walked away as we entered the room.

Ben sneezed.

"And in we go!" I said.

"Hello, I'm Khosain, this is my partner Airryz," said an old woman with a visible accent.

"Hi. I'm Aero, and this is Peter. We're-"

"Princess Hunter's family. I'm well aware," Khosain said. I looked at her surprised.

"Is she that popular?"

"That she is! The people in smaller villages of Wakanda loves her so much! She plays with kids, helps families with food and hygiene, she tries her best with injured people and much more! She also tells the stories of Peter Parker and Aero Dermon, the power couple who saves everyone!" Exclaimed Airryz with energy.

Not everyone...

"She's a hero here! But so are you!"

"Airryz. We aren't here to talk about the princess. What's going on?"

"Ben- our son- woke up coughing and sneezing," Peter explained.

"It's probably a cold."

"We didn't bring any medication or anything. Is there a drug store?" I ask.

"Drug store? You'd want to drug him?" Said the younger woman, looking at her elder with... Panic?

"Calm down. They mean a medicine store. Choose your words carefully next time, Ms. Dermon," The elder gave Aero a death glare.

"Sorry, sorry! I didn't know!"

"Well, here, we use herbs. And if it's absolutely necessary, we use medicine that Mr. Stark developed for us. There are no «drugs» here."

"Alright, thank you," Peter said, taking the herbs.

"Mix it with hot water, less than a cup, he should be alright tomorrow."

"Thanks," I said, kind of annoyed. How was I supposed to know they thought "drugs" were heroin?!

The old woman hummed and the younger nurse gave us a sorry expression. Peter gave a little smile and opened his mouth, only to be interrupted by the door, opening suddenly.

"Get out of the way! Out of the way!"

We moved to the wall, only to sleep five people, transporting a panther.

"What the-"

"She's hurt! We need medical attention right now!"

People in the room ran, putting masks, surrounding the panther. It was as black as coal, but a red liquid was dripping on the side of it's body.

"Dear God-"

"Peter, get Ben out of here!"

"Aero!"

I took his hand and we ran out of the room. Once outside, there was complete silence except for our breathing, like we ran a marathon. Our panting slowed down as we looked at each other.

"Take Ben back to the room. Remember that year of vet classes I took in eight grade?"

"Aero, they're experts, I don't think they'll even let you in. And it was a basic class right? Whatever is going on in there, I don't think you can do anything about it," he said softly.

"Yeah, but I'm in need of a good thrill, Peter, please."

"Aero. If you want something fun to do, ask T'Challa. This is Wakanda. I'm pretty sure there are exciting things to do everywhere, here."

I almost started bouncing.

"Can I at least go watch? Please! Please! Please!"

He took a big breath and bit his lip and I knew I was going to win this.

"Pleaaaaaaase?"

"Alright, fine. But just look. And you have to ask first."

I shrug.

"No promises! Thanks, love you!"

He sighed as he went back to our room.

"Hunter!" I yelled through the halls, but was met with T'Challa instead.

"Oh. Hello," I said, a bit embarrassed. He just chuckled and smiled.

"Hello little one. You were looking for my sister?"

"Uh...a little weird to hear, but yeah. I saw the panther."

He just chuckled again.

"Yes. They are pretty common here. But I must say that is it quite rare to see one injured."

"I..uh..am an aspiring veterinarian and was wandering if I could watch?"

"Watch or work with them?" He asked with a smirk.

"Hunter has told you a lot of stories, I gather."

"That she did. She tells stories to everyone. Now, come on. I'm sure they won't mind an other hand. How far are you in your studies?"

"Eighth grade?" I chuckled. He laughed a bit back.

"I'm sure they'll let you assist them. Do you know your surgery tools?"

"Pretty well. My mom's a nurse."

"Ah, I see. She must be a wise woman," he said, nodding.

"I'd say so," I say, an awkward smile on my face. We finally got there and he knocked on the door.

"Come in!" Someone yelled. We entered the room to see a boy, in front of us.

"Your Majesty," he said, doing an X with his arms.

"Hello, Mayeng. Do you mind if Miss Dermon helps you? She has the basic studies."

"I'm not sure your Majesty. She seems....ill equipped."

"She would just pass you the tools and watch, I feel she is in need of action," he said, smirking.

"But, you're Majesty-"

"Please?" I said, putting my hands together.

"No," the boy said.

"I swear I won't be trouble! I took a class! Just give me a chance! Please!"

"I said what I said," the boy tells me as an elder walks in.

"What is going on here?" She asked.

"This incompetent child has requested to aid in the Panthers surgery."

"Hey! I-I'm not incompetent!"

He glares at me. What an ass.

"Now, now. Maybe we can talk about it outside. I'm sure the King has other things to do."

"Not particularly," the king said. We still walked outside of the room.

"Now, what is you would like to do?" The elder asked.

"You know what, I should probably go. It's not a big deal," I say with a smile.

"No, no. We are going to do this in the right way."

"Ma'am, I have a sick kid, I don't need to be here. I was just bored and wanted some action," I tell her.

"And it is there."

"So, I can help?"

"If you tell us what you can do, it wouldn't be a problem."

The surgery went amazing! I think I've found my calling!
