As Free As A Sparrow
Peter's POV
I heard giggles coming from outside the room, so I put my book down and walked over. I opened the door and saw Shuri supporting my very drunk fiancee so she didn't fall.
"I fink I drank too much," Aero giggled.
"Definitely," I said, helping my sister's wife.
"Your girl is a real one," she said, as we laid Aero down.
"You're so cute, and I wuuuuvv you! And you're so amazing!" Aero babbled as she layed down. Shuri snickered as I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, doesn't surprise me. Thanks for bringing her back," I replied.
"It was no problem, really."
"I'm sure it was."
"Yeah, it was. But just a little bit," she said, smirking.
"I'm soooo tiiired...," Aero said, giggling right after.
"Which is why you should close your eyes and sleep, 'kay?"
"I- I think I need to puke first-" Aero said, rushing to the bathroom. I closed my eyes and cringed slightly at the sound, but went after her to lift her hair.
"She okay?" Shuri asked from the bedroom.
"Yeah, don't worry! You can go back to your room, I'll take care of her!"
The door closed on the other side of the small apartment.
"I'll never drink again," Aero whined, then shoved her head in the bowl once more. I laughed softly.
"Sure, I totally believe you."
Aero fell asleep quickly after. Once she was out, I walked over to Hunter and Shuri's room to pick up Ben. He was asleep next to Fridaline and Kitty who were on the floor. My sister was also on the floor, sleeping with the kids. I smiled softly and quietly took my son, but not before taking a picture.
"They are adorable," A voice said behind me, making me jump. I turned to see Shuri, suppressing a giggle.
"They are. Do you need help cleaning?"
"Nah, I'll be fine. It's only a couple of pillows and candies, don't worry about it," she said, closing the tv.
"Are you sure? I can-" she cut me off.
"Peter, its fine," she laughed as I blushed slightly. "You should go to sleep, it's late."
"Got it. Anything planned for tomorrow?"
"Well, Hunter and me have some things to do, but -thanks Bast- we don't have so much to do, so maybe we could meet up later?"
"Yeah," I say with a smile, "but don't expect Aero. She'll probably be in bed all day."
"Tell her to drink a lot of water, it usually helps," she said, smiling.
"I will. Thanks for watching Ben," I say, started to walk to the door.
"I'll be sure to tell Hunter," she replied, waving.
I walked back to the room and fell asleep with Ben in my arms and Aero at my side. The only thing off putting was the still nagging feeling of impending danger at the back of my head.
Listen to your Peter-tingle. It's important.
It's spider-sense!
Just trust yourself Peter.
But I don't want to. I want to put it off as nothing. I want to live my life with my family as if we were normal. I don't want this anymore. I'm tired.
I'm... Tired...

I woke up to the sound of Ben crying and Aero groaning.
"Peter...please make him stop. My head hurts."
I let out a sigh and groan as I opened my eyes. I took Ben in my arms and stood up, half-asleep.
"Pete? You okay?" Aero asked.
"Huh? What?" I asked with a tired voice.
Aero sits up, a concerned expression on her face.
"Are you okay?" She repeated, more sternly this time.
"Yeah, why?"
She dryly laughs, "You look like you've seen a ghost. Are feeling alright? Maybe Ben gave you his cold."
"I just... Didn't sleep really well."
By now, Ben had stopped crying and was laying his head on my shoulder, absentmindedly looking around the room. I wanted to tell her about my bad feeling, but she's been through enough lately. She didn't need my burdens too.
"You sure that's it?"
I just hummed hugging Ben.
"Peter.."
I smiled reassuringly, "I'm fine, Roe. Promise."
She nodded and then groaned.
"Shaking my head is a no-no."
I laughed as I putted Ben in his chair.
"Shuri says to drink water, apparently it helps."
"Can you go get me pasta?"
"Sure, give me a couple of minutes," I said after snorting.
I set our one year old on the bed and he crawls up to Aero, curling up near her chest. I smiled as she let the baby play with her hand, a scene that made my heart melt.
"You feeling better, Benji?" Aero asked him. The boy blabbeled something, making Aero laugh slightly. “I’ll take that as a yes!”
I smiled again, drowning out the bad feeling for even just a second. Because everything I needed was right here in this room, but a second after, anxiety hit me again and I felt defeated. I wondered if it was because of Beck, maybe I was still scared.
But something told me it was more than this. More than just Becks voice pounding in the back of my skull; saying I'm not enough to protect my family.
“Peter? The water’s boiling!”
I jumped, surprised by the voice of my fiance and looked at the water. It was boiling.
“Are you really sure you’re okay? You seem pretty out of it,” said Aero, frowning.
"Huh? Uh, yeah, yeah. Just tired."
“I’ve seen you at your finals, you weren’t like that.”
"Im okay, Aero."
“We’re talking about this when I’m better,” she said with a firm voice.
I sighed and went back to making food. I knew I wasn’t getting out of this, but I didn’t want to talk about it. She doesn’t deserve to worry all the time for something that probably won’t even happen.

I'm walking through one of the stables to clear my mind, finding a beautiful variety of stallions and mares. There are kids and adults, laughing and crying on the horses and I can’t help but be amazed by the beauty of nature. It’s so peaceful and innocent, I can’t help but feel jealous of the tranquility of the way they live.
"May I help you?" One of the stable hands asked.
"Uh..no. I'm just looking."
“The rides are free. If you have experience, you can follow the path alone or if it’s your first time, you can go with an expert.”
I'd never really ridden before, except at Aero's grandma's house, but why not.
"Uh, sure."
That was such a long time ago. Life was so calm and easy.
“Thank you,” I just said, nodding, and the person nodded back.
I walked around, looking for the perfect one. Then I saw it. His name was Sparrow. He was a buckskin, just like the one I used to ride on those easy summer days with my sister and best friend at my side.
“Excuse me?”
“Yes?”
“Can I ride this one?” I said, pointing at Sparrow.
“Of course! Do you need someone to come with you?”
"No, I'm good. Thanks, man." I said.
The boy helped me tack up Sparrow and I was off. The path was quiet and I saw almost nobody. Sparrow was really attentive and didn’t hesitate at all.
"Hey, bud, you wanna have some fun?" I asked.
He whinnied. I clicked my tongue and we ran off the trail. There was one thing the media didn't lie about Wakanda. The view was beautiful. No, not beautiful, more than that. There were no words to express its beauty.
Soon, we galloped into an open meadow. I closed my eyes and let the horse guide the way. I wasn’t sure if I could place all my trust in a horse I’ve just met, but at that time, I didn’t care. I just felt free. Free enough the worry I had felt withered away. Beck’s voice withered away.
And for just a second I was at peace.
