Chapter 9: Pause Button
Man, do I hate Monday’s now. Not only do I have to see Brian Kendrick, but having to hear him whine about how he deserves to be Cruiserweight Champion and blah blah this, blah blah that. It just makes me want to punch him in the face.
I sigh as I remember the conversation I had with him once.
**
I entered the locker room and walked up to Brian who was seated down on a steel chair. Taking one for myself from nearby, I set it near his about to sit down when Brian hit it away and stood up abruptly.
“Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa, hit the pause button.” I lifted my hands in defense. “Let's...drop the facade, okay? More greasy Jack Sparrow.” I said looking him up and down as he represented the Captain of the Black Pearl. “Huh?”
I motioned for him to sit back down. We both kept our eyes on each other, cautious of any suspicious movement that may occur.
“Look, I know you're not a bad guy, man. I know who The Brian Kendrick really is. And he's not the inspector gadget of cheap tricks. But what you are right now, you're afraid. You're afraid that if you fail in this last go round that that's it. No more extra lives, you're done.” I said, looking at him for any reaction of sort.
Brian looks at me straight in the eyes. “Yeah, yeah what would happen last week, huh? What happen last week when I beat you?” He says, leaning forward towards me in a taunting way. “You think I'm afraid?”
I breathe out a small laugh and smile slightly. “You beat me with a submission or is it the cheap shot before that? Because, that's my point. That's my point! You don't need the cheap shots, Brian. I would've given you another shot at the cruiserweight title, just because of who you are. Or at least who you were. You and I used to be the first in the gym and the last to leave.”
Brian looks away from me and moves his hair behind his ear, looking down before looking back at me.
“When I was too young to drive, you use to come pick me up so I can make my matches.” I scoff lightly, almost sounding like a small breathy laugh. “Do you remember the one road trip we went on when my N64 broke? And you went and got me a new one? You remember that?”
Brian nods, remembering that day like it was yesterday. “Yeah, I remember.”
I sigh. “Look man, it's not too late for you to be the guy I know you really are, okay?” I stand up from my steel chair and move it to the side. “So, it's not too late for you to be The. Brian. Kendrick.” I hold my hand out for him to shake, hoping I got through to him.
He looks at my outstretched hand then up at me, contemplation evident in his eyes. Brian takes my hand and shakes it after a few seconds.
Seems like this is going good so far.
I turn to leave, but from the corner of my eyes I see Brian get up, fist clenched as he attempted to attack me from behind. I turned back around as quick as I could and threw the first punch before he could, knocking him down to the floor.
“Guess I was wrong…” I turn around again, walking towards the door to leave as Brian stayed on the floor covering his face in case I would hit him again.
He should be afraid. Afraid of me.
**
After that conversation I went on and won my match against Ariya Daivari. Sure, I still felt like I should be on full alert of myself in case Brian wants revenge on that punch I gave him, but I doubt it.
“Hey champ!” Sami yelled as he ran over to me with a cup of coffee in his hands. How he didn't spill it, I have no clue.
I smiled, clasping our right hands together as we did our usual handshake. “What's up Z? What have you been up to?”
We walked down the hallway just mindlessly minding our own business as Sami sipped from his coffee.
“Well, I'm trying to get a match against Braun Strowman for Hell in A Cell.” He said nonchalantly.
I stopped in my tracks and looked over at him, concern and a look of disbelief written all over my face.
“What?”
“Do you want to get yourself killed? Do I need to take you to the trainer's room to get your mental health checked out or something, cause I'll do it. I'll drag you there if I have to.”
Sami laughed loudly, throwing his now empty cup in a trash can nearby. “I can assure you, TJ, that my mental health is far than good.” I gave him a look like I didn't believe him still to which he rolled his eyes at. “I'm serious. I'm like the only guy that is going to stand up against the abominable snowman here!”
“So, you want to get yourself made into a snow cone and be eaten by the a giant snow monster is what you're telling me?” I asked, lifting my eyebrows at him.
“No!” He yelled rubbing his face and running his fingers through his hair. I laughed at his frustration as he glared at me. “You know what? Fuck you, Perkins.”
“Nah, I'd rather have Vee fuck me than you.” I patted his shoulder as he shook his head at me. “Besides, Latinas have this wild side to them and it just fucking turns me on.” I smirked, thinking about Vee Mendoza and how she would be behind closed doors.
“Okay, fuckboy. Calm your balls down before they turn blue. Don't want a hound hearing you say that about his protégée and rip your head off. ” Sami pushed me as we kept walking down the hallway. I smirked as we kept our antics going and throwing jokes at one another. Our laughter filling the halls of the arena.
Maybe someday she can call me Papi..

Sorry for the late update, I've been busy having exams all week and also this next week.
This is just like a filler chapter, so I'm sorry if it's crappy or anything.
