~(Y/n)'s POV~

"I can't believe (B/n) wants ice cream at midnight!" I shout angrily, entering the convenience store that was just down the street from our apartment. The cashier glanced at me confusingly as I headed to the freezer section. I grabbed a pint of chocolate ice cream and continued to curse my brother under my breath as the cashier rang up my item.

"Everything alright?" He asked as I handed him my credit card.

"If you count my brother craving ice cream at midnight alright, then, yeah."

"Little brother?"

"No. Grown-ass big brother who had surgery a few days ago. I asked him before we got home from the hospital today if he wanted ice cream, but he said no. And now, he's changed his mind. I love him and I know he's in pain, but I hate making midnight runs to the convenience store just for dessert."

"Know how that feels. Well, I hope your brother feels better. Here's his ice cream and your card."

"Thanks. Who knows? You might see me again tomorrow night, too." I left the store with the ice cream in a small paper bag and slid my card in my pocket.

Walking down the street, the breeze cooled my heated skin. I sighed as it whipped through my (h/c) hair and cooled the back of my neck. As I was passing an abandoned house, the sound of rattling and mumbling resounded from the other side of the fence. Due to it being covered, I couldn't tell who was behind the sounds. Curiosity got ahold of me and I climbed the fence. My leg snagged the top, creating a cut along my calf. "Ugh, great..."

Now on the opposite side of the fence, I explore the house as the door was unlocked. The floorboards creaked as I entered what used to be a living room. In silence, I walk across the room and check the kitchen. In the far right corner, there was an android scratching something on the wall with a knife. I refused to call out to the machine as he was mumbling incoherently to himself.

An uneasy feeling washed over me and I took a step towards him. My foot came in contact with a bucket and warned the android of my presence. I swallowed hard as he turned around with his knife raised. I ran out of the kitchen when I saw the insanity in his one good eye. Before I could reach the front door, I was grabbed and pinned against a wall. The android pressed the knife to my throat and I felt my entire body shaking.

"Ralph doesn't like intruders. Why is human here?"

"I-I'm sorry. I heard s-something and climbed the fence to see what it was. I-I didn't know you lived here." Something flickered in his right eye and he removed the knife from my throat. He stepped away from me and I sighed in relief.

"Ralph didn't mean to scare nice human. Ralph only wants to protect himself. Humans hurt Ralph."

"Why do you think I'm nice when we've only just met?"

"You haven't hurt Ralph like other humans." He ran a hand over the left side of his face.

"Someone did this to you?" I question.

"Yes. Human burnt Ralph. Then, Ralph escaped from bad human."

"I'm guessing your name is Ralph," I murmur to myself.

"What is human's name?" The android suddenly asked.

"I'm (Y/n). It's nice to meet you, Ralph."

"(Y/n)... (Y/n) is nice and kind. Ralph knows he can trust her."

The damage to his face broke my heart. I stepped closer to him and he didn't raise his knife. "I could fix you up, if you'd like."

(A/n: I know in the game the damage is irreversible, but I'm changing that!)

"(Y/n) would do that for Ralph even after what he did?" He asked, his eyes widening.

"I know you were just protecting yourself. And, yes, I would. No android deserves to be treated like garbage. Will you come with me, Ralph?" I offered him a hand. He glanced between my hand and my face. The android dropped the knife and took my outstretched hand. I smiled at the battered machine, which resulted in his own smile. We left the old house and headed to my apartment.

Safely inside, I lock the door and guide Ralph to the living room. He sat down on the couch and I excused myself for a few minutes. Ice cream in-hand, I head to my brother's room. As I opened the door, I heard (B/n) singing horribly to his favorite song. "Here's your ice cream. You didn't say what flavor you wanted, so I just picked up chocolate."

"Thanks, sis. Could you get me a spoon?" He asked.

I sigh. "Fine." I walked past the jittery Ralph as I headed into the kitchen to grab a spoon. Then, I returned to (B/n)'s room and handed him the silverware. "Stay in your room for now. We have a guest and I don't want you to frighten him."

"Oh, who is it? A boyfriend?" He teases.

"No. Just... stay in your room."

"Fine. Leave me to my music and ice cream." I roll my eyes and close the door.

"Are you ready to get patched up?" I ask Ralph as I entered the living room.

"Yes. Ralph trusts (Y/n)."

I smiled at his response and gathered the necessary items to repair his face. Since my job was to fix androids for a living, it proved to be a much easier task. What took me the longest was evaluating the damage to see how deep or if any of his processing was corrupted. Sadly, a portion of his processor was damaged beyond repair, which would explain the reason why Ralph talks in third-person. "There. You're all patched up."

The android sprung to his feet and searched for the nearest mirror. He wandered to the decorative mirror in the hallway and examined his face. Ralph ran a hand across where the damage once was. I noticed he was examining his left eye. "I'll get you another optic tomorrow. Since you're a WR600, your parts won't be too pricey."

"(Y/n) doesn't need to go through so much trouble for Ralph."

"It's no trouble at all. You'll be able to use your left eye by tomorrow afternoon." Ralph smiled and did the unexpected. He hugged me tightly and thanked me profusely. "You're welcome, Ralph."

When I felt a small stinging sensation on the back of my leg, I remembered the cut I had received from climbing the fence. I hiss in pain as my calf brushed against the sofa. Ralph heard and bent down to see what was causing me pain. "It's Ralph's turn to help (Y/n)," he said before he went into the kitchen. When he returned, the android had a wet cloth in his hand. He gestured to the couch and I sat down without a word. The machine lifted my leg and cleaned the cut.

Once Ralph was done cleaning it, I told him where the bandages were and he fetched one for me. He was very gentle when he placed it over the cut. I smiled once he was done. "Thank you, Ralph."

-Next Morning-

When I woke up, I was able to find Ralph on the balcony. He was watering the many flowers (B/n) and I had planted a few months back. I wasn't surprised since he was a gardener model. I left him to tend to the flowers and went into the kitchen to eat breakfast.

As I was cleaning up my mess, Ralph entered the kitchen with a few flowers in his hand. I smiled and pulled out a vase, filled it with water, and sat it on the counter. He placed the flowers in the vase and moved it to the center of the table. "Ralph misses flowers. They are very beautiful."

"Ralph, if you want a place to call home, you're welcome to stay here. I'm sure (B/n) would enjoy your company, too."

"Ralph has already caused too much trouble for (Y/n). Ralph can't cause any more for her."

"You haven't caused me any trouble. It would be a nice change to have you around."

Ralph pulled at his battered clothes. I could tell my words were reaching him and his decision was changing. "Ralph has always wanted a family. Will (Y/n) and (B/n) be Ralph's new family?"

"Of course, Ralph. Now, how about we head to the nearest android store and get you a new optic?" He nods and takes my hand in his. We left before (B/n) woke up and locked the door behind us.

At the store, I was able to find the exact optical in the right color, as well. The entire time since we left the apartment, Ralph hasn't left my side. When I was purchasing the part, the man behind the counter saw Ralph's left eye. "What happened?"

"A robbery. Someone broke into my apartment and Ralph protected me. I was able to repair most of the damage myself," I half-lied. The man believed my lie and handed the optic over. Not wishing to wait, I asked Ralph to remove his old optic and replace it with the new one. He happily did as I asked and the man took the damaged optic from us.

After blinking a few times, Ralph's smile grew bigger as he looked around the store. He couldn't hide his joy and crushed me in a hug. People were starting to stare when they noticed us—some glances chastising us while others were welcoming at the sudden affection. "Ralph loves (Y/n) more than anyone. (Y/n) has fixed up and given a family to Ralph."

I hug him back and smile from ear-to-ear. "Welcome to the family, Ralph."
