~(Y/n)'s POV~

I heard a knock on the door of my apartment. Opening the door, I was greeted by Daniel and Emma. The little girl handed me a small invitation that had a heart on it. "I hope you decide to come, (Y/n)." The android smiled and I couldn't help but send him one in return. I opened the letter and read it.

Would you like to have dinner with us? It's tonight at six!
~Emma~

I kneeled in front of Emma and took her small hand in mine. "I'd love to have dinner with you and your family, Emma. I'll be up around five-fifty, okay?"

Emma wrapped her arms around my neck and gave me a hug. "I can't wait!"

I hugged her in return before she jumped from my arms and returned to her apartment with Daniel. With the dinner only a few hours away, I decided to do a few chores before taking a shower and getting ready. I finished all I needed at five-forty and only had ten minutes to burn. I read a few pages of a book before leaving my apartment and heading to the stairs. Since the Phillips lived on the floor above me, it would be pointless to use the elevator.

I knocked on their door and Daniel answered. "It's nice to see you, (Y/n)."

"I'm glad you're finally using my first name, Daniel. We've known each other for almost a year."

He steps aside and lets me in the beautiful apartment. "You're like family to the four of us."

"It's nice to have a family like you, Emma, John, and Caroline. I lost my real family a few years back, but now I've found a new one." Daniel smiles and we head to the kitchen. Inside, Caroline was making finishing touches on dinner. "It's so nice to see you again, (Y/n). I'm glad you could make it. Emma just loves it when you come over. You're like an aunt to her."

"I enjoy spending time with her, too. Do you need any help, Carol?" I offered.

"No, sweetheart. You're our guest. Daniel, go get John and Emma. Dinner's ready."

The android walks away as Caroline placed the dishes on the table. I sat down and got comfortable. Josh, Emma, and Daniel entered the kitchen. The young girl sat next to me as Daniel sat across from us. Caroline and John sat at either end and we started dinner. Even though Daniel doesn't need to eat, it was nice to have him sitting with us. The five of us felt like a family as we talked together.

It was around eight by the time we were finished talking. We finished dinner an hour and a half ago, but we kept on chatting. Emma had gotten up and yawned. She rubbed her eyes and I smiled at her. "Sleepy, sweetheart?"

She nods and I saw her droopy eyes. I stood from my seat and took her hand. "Is it alright if I tuck her in?" I ask Caroline and John.

"Go right ahead, (Y/n)," John smiled. I took Emma to her room and watched as she crawled onto her bed and got under the covers. I tucked her in and she smiled up at me. "Aunt (Y/n), could you tell me a story?"

"Of course."

As I told her a small fairytale, I noticed Daniel entered and sat down in Emma's desk chair. He listened intently as I continued my story. Before I reached the end of my tale, Emma had fallen asleep. I finished it since Daniel was still listening and wanted to hear the ending. "The end."

"You're an amazing storyteller, (Y/n)," Daniel beams.

"It's all thanks to my mom. She would tell me the most interesting stories when she tucked me in for the night."

Out of the entire Phillips family, I've only ever told what happened to my parents to Daniel. John and Caroline are unaware of my deceased family and believe they still visit every now and then. I hadn't realized tears were trailing down my face until Daniel moved from the chair and wiped them away. His LED marker was yellow, which I had never seen before.

No words were exchanged between us as Daniel did the unexpected. He hugged me gingerly and let my tears soak his shirt. After a few minutes, I broke away and stared into his azure eyes. "I should go, Daniel. If you or Emma ever want to visit, don't hesitate to stop by. I could use the company."

He nods with a smile and we leave Emma's room. The android escorted me to the stairs and opened the door for me. Before I descended the stairs, I called out to Daniel. "Thank you for tonight. Tell Josh and Caroline the meal was delicious and I enjoyed our long chat."

"I will, (Y/n)."

"Thank you so much, Daniel."

-Next Day-

At noon, my doorbell rang. I knew who it was and opened the door without hesitation. Emma and Daniel walked into my apartment with smiles on their faces. The little girl hugged me and I wrapped my arms around her, picking her up as we embraced one another.

"John and Caroline are out of town for the next few days," Daniel informs me.

"Guess It was the last minute decision they were talking about at dinner last night. How about the two of you stay with me until they return? It must be lonely with just the two of you in that large apartment."

"Can we, Daniel?" Emma asked with pleading eyes.

"I don't see why not," the android responds happily. Emma cheers jubilantly at Daniel's answer.

I sat her down on the couch and she started messing with my (h/c) hair, braiding what she can. "Mommy doesn't let me braid her hair because she said it causes too many knots."

"You can braid my hair whenever you like, sweetie."

She smiles and continues to mess with my hair. Daniel sat beside Emma and watched as she braided my hair. I heard her giving him instructions and the android took her place. I giggled as I heard Emma whine about how he did it better than her on his first try.

After my hair was braided for the fifth time, I asked if Emma wanted to go in the pool. She nods and Daniel takes her back to their apartment so she could grab her bathing suit and a change of clothes. I changed before they returned and waited for them in the pool. When they spotted me already in the pool, Emma ran over and jumped into the cool water. She giggled as she emerged and swam over to me.

Daniel sat on a chair and watched us. I swam over to the edge of the pool to him and splashed him with water. "Daniel, join us! I know androids are water-proof."

"But, (Y/n)..."

"Come on, Daniel!" Emma shouts.

"I don't have a bathing suit."

I waved off his concern. "Don't worry 'bout it. I'll wash your clothes later. Just join us!"

Due to our continuous boisterous behavior, Daniel finally got into the pool and Emma tossed him a small ball. We played catch together for some time until the little girl wanted to have lunch. Exiting the pool, we head to the kitchen and I prepared lunch with help from Daniel. After Emma and I ate, we spent the rest of the day watching movies.

At nine o'clock, I took Emma to the guest bedroom and put her to bed. Once she was resting peacefully, I headed back into the living room. Daniel was wearing a spare outfit my brother had left behind while his clothes were being washed. The two of us sat on the couch and talked. I noticed during our conversation that he was more emotional than ever before. It was as if I was talking to another human and not an android. It brought a smile to my face, a permanent one.

-A Few Days Later-

After spending three days in my apartment, Emma and Daniel returned to their apartment when John and Caroline returned from their business trip.

As I was preparing dinner, I heard a gunshot come from the Phillips' apartment. I dropped everything and ran to their apartment. When I entered, another gunshot rang out. I entered the kitchen and saw Daniel pointing a pistol at John and Caroline. "Daniel!" I shout. The android quickly turns and aims the gun at me. Tears were streaming from his eyes as the hand that was holding the gun shook. "What's going on?"

"(Y/n), I..."

"Daniel, put the gun down and talk to me."

"They're going to replace me!" He shouts.

I peer past the android to eye the Phillips. "Why are you replacing Daniel?"

"We need a higher-end model," John answers nervously.

"Is Daniel experiencing issues that can't be fixed?"

"Well, no, but..." Caroline trails off.

Daniel turned his gun back to the parents and aimed it at their heads. "I thought we were a family!"

"John, Caroline, if you're going to replace Daniel, at least let me take him," I said.

The android spun to face me, shock evident on his face. He swallowed hard and stared at me. "You would do that, (Y/n)?"

"Yes, I would. You're my family, too, Daniel. I've got plenty of room in my apartment for you."

He slowly sat the gun down on the kitchen table as I approached him slowly. I brought him into a comforting hug and he wrapped his arms around me. Behind Daniel, I saw the Phillips sigh in relief. I was furious at them, but I decided to keep my anger hidden.

After the hug, I took Daniel's hand in mine. "Are you okay?" He nods and holds my hand tighter. I know he's become a deviant, but it wasn't an issue with me. I locked eyes with Caroline. "If it's alright with you, I'll take Daniel to my apartment. Emma can come see him anytime she wants." They nod and John leaves the kitchen to explain what was going on to Emma. Caroline waved nervously as Daniel and I left.

Back in my apartment, Daniel calms down and returns to his normal self. He sat on the couch and his shaking had subsided. The moment I sat next to him, he hugged me. "Thank you for this, (Y/n)."

I smile and hug him back. "You're welcome, Daniel."
