Chapter Thirty-Six: The Real Enemy

CyberLife threw me out of a black van, onto the side of the road.

I have to get to Connor. Maybe we can stop CyberLife before it's too late.

After the longest cab ride in the century, I arrived at the police station, rushing through the halls until I got into the main work room.

"Tasha!" Hank exclaimed, standing from his seat. "Where the fuck have you been?!"

"There's no time, Hank! Where's Connor?"

Hank nodded behind me, causing me to turn on my heel, meeting beautiful brown eyes.

"Connor."

Connor turned to me, running at me and lifting me off the ground, holding me close. "You're here! You're okay! I thought—"

"Connor — yes I'm okay! Look, we need to go!"

Connor grabbed the back of my neck, pulling my lips against his feverishly. I couldn't help but let out a moan as he kissed me with more passion than I had ever felt from him before. "I— I thought—"

"I'm okay, Connor." I managed to smile at him, "But we need to go before it's too late."

I grabbed onto his arm, pulling him towards Hank's desk. "We need to stop CyberLife."

"Stop CyberLife?" Connor said, his LED yellow. "I don't — I don't understand."

"CyberLife is the one who kidnaped me! They... Connor, I need to tell Markus what they plan to do before it's too late. Please, listen to me!"

Connor blinked, "Markus? Have you... spoken with the deviant leader?"

"Yes," I breathed, frowning slightly, "That's where I went yesterday, but... but on the way back CyberLife kidnaped me. They... try threatened me, beat me...." I grabbed onto his arm. "Connor... they said they'd dispose of you!"

Connor's LED was blinking impossibly fast, flickering between red and yellow. "That's... that's impossible. It had to have been the deviants. They probably tricked you, and—"

"No! Connor, Markus didn't do any of this — this is all CyberLife."

Hank narrowed his eyes, "Those fuckers. If I get ahold of them—" Hank took a deep breath, "I'm sorry, kiddo, but we've been kicked from the case. There isn't anything we can do."

"No fucking way. We have to go to Jericho!" I exclaimed.

"Where are they located?" Connor asked after a moment,

"I.... I'm not sure exactly where they are."

Hank rolled his eyes, "You were with the Deviants, shouldn't you know—"

"I don't know the exact location, they're not stupid." I sighed, "There has to be some way to find out exactly where it is, right?"

"We can't give up!" Connor said as he looked at me. "We can finish this case..." He trailed off as he heard the entrance of the FBI douche nozzle Agent Perkins.

Connor and I exchanged glances, "Hank, go distract fbi douche nozzle over there. Connor and I will go to the evidence locker.

"What? What am I supposed to fucking do? Do a strip tease for him?!"

"Preferably not." I laughed, "Hank, you're smart. Please, I need to do this."

Hank sighed, standing and patting me on the head. "Your parents would be proud of you... I'm proud of you."

I couldn't help but smile. "Thank you, Hank."

"Why are you still standing here, kid?" Hank looked at me. "Get your ass moving!"

Connor and I walked a fast pace towards the evidence locker. "We have to be careful, you're not supposed to be here, and —"

"Tasha!"

Fuck.

No.

Anyone but him.

"Connor, I'll distract Gavin. You get the location for Jericho."

Connor looked at me, a frown on his face. "What are you going to do?"

"You won't like it." I admitted, "Just hurry, please."

I turned away from him, forcing a smile as Gavin strut towards me. "What's a pretty thing like you doing back here all alone?"

"I was just taking a walk. Needed to clear my head." I lied, sighing pointedly.

"Aw, is the Android making things difficult?" Gavin was uncomfortably close as he stood next to me.

"It's frustrating," I sighed, pushing my hair behind my shoulder, trying my best to be seductive. "I just want someone to dominate me."

This is disgusting.

But it's working.

Gavin shoved me hard against the wall, "Don't push me, Tash."

I smirked up at him, biting my lower lip. "Or what?"

Gavin let out a chuckle before crashing his lips onto mine, grabbing onto my waist tight as he shoved his body hard against mine.

Please hurry, Connor.

Thankfully, it wasn't long before I heard a door click down the hall.

I looked behind Gavin, seeing Connor at the end of the wall giving me a pointed look before walking away. I pushed Gavin away, saluting him.

"See ya around, Gav."

I rushed around the corner, bumping into Connor.

"That's how you decided to distract him?!" His LED was red and he had his eyebrows narrowed at me.

"It worked, didn't it?" I rolled my eyes. "I enjoyed it less than you did, darling. You kiss much better."

Connor smirked slightly at that. "I know where Jericho is."

"You did it?!" I couldn't help but smile at him. "Okay, lets go!"

As I began to walk away Connor grabbed onto my wrist, holding me in place.

"Tasha, you're not coming."

"Excuse me?"

"You need to stay here."

"No— we're a team. We look out for each other. I refuse to sit here idly when I can do something. Please, Connor."

Connor shook his head, "I can't lose you."

"You won't. I love you."

Connor's POV

It was like she put him into a trance. As much as his mind was yelling to make her stay, his software was telling him the mission was more likely to be a success if Tasha came along.

"Okay..."

As they walked towards the car, Tasha turned to Connor. "If we're going to infiltrate Jericho, you can't wear... this" Tasha pointed to his outfit that clearly showed he was an Android.

"What do you propose?"

Tasha's POV

"What do you think?" I asked as I eyed his new outfit.

"It's... different." Connor said as he got out of the car. "It'll do the job. Stay behind me, got it?"

"Got it," I saluted him as I trailed behind him. It was dark now, and I could see the outline of people walking into the ship.

"There." Connor mumbled to me, pointing towards Markus who was stepping into a secluded room.

"Connor... we don't have to do this." I felt my heart breaking each moment he didn't speak or look at me.

"We can just go... go far away from here."

"No, we can't." Connor said, looking at me like I was crazy, his LED yellow. "We have to stop the Deviants!"

"Connor, please—"

"I'm going whether you come with me or not!" Connor's voice rose his voice as he turned away from me, walking into the ship not looking back at me once.

I pushed the tears back as best I could as I trailed behind him. What more could I do? I wasn't going to let him walk into this alone, nor would I ever leave his side.

My insides went cold as we neared Markus, his back turned to us. Connor raised his gun, pointing it at Markus.

"Don't. Move."
